A bold, versatile and sustainable jacket designed for your everyday urban adventures. Whether you’re out cycling, commuting to work, or hanging out with your friends… no matter what the weather throws at you.
Waterproof, breathable, made with recycled plastic bottles... and with 16 urban-friendly features, this is a technical jacket that doesn't look like a technical jacket.
The Urban Jacket was designed with rainy cities in mind. And with a 10,000mm waterproof protection, you'll stay dry in case of light rain but also heavier rain.
As we sometimes have to be a bit more active to get around, we've included a breathable membrane into our fabric.
And for those intense rides, or intense walks to catch your bus, two discrete pit zips will help you stay even more fresh.
We are applying the same technology used by great outdoor brands... with a few changes:
We are using an eco-friendly, FC/PFC-free water repellent.
What are PFCs? The main chemical used for anything you want water resistant, and widely used in the outerwear industry.
So why are we ditching it? Although it is performing well, it’s also harmful for the wildlife and for the people. Hopefully, alternatives exist. We're using BIONIC-FINISH® ECO, a great alternative, made in Germany.
Poorly designed hoods are annoying, and even dangerous if you're cycling.
So we've designed ours to follow your head movements, with a 3 point adjustment system. And also be helmet compatible!
Our cuffs are adjustable, and we've included a reflective side, for the cyclists out there. Making your hand signals more visible, and increasing your chance of survival. Which is always good to have.
Each Urban Jacket is made using 30 plastic bottles.
By using recycled polyester, we're not only providing a new jobs for unemployed plastic bottles and divert them from landfill, we also make huge savings on water and energy. Win-win.
Our phones and keys weren't large enough to fill the pockets, so we had to improvise.
The Urban Jacket is unisex with a straight fit. Our jackets range from XXS to XXL.
For Men - The coat has a regular fit, but if like a more slim fit we suggest you size down. If you usually wear size M jackets, simply grab an M size jacket.
For Women - Size down one size. So if you usually wear size S jackets, you should choose a size XS.
Labo Mono was born in 2018 by Ali, a designer living in London.
The idea sparked after being caught out in the rain and soaked, while cycling home.
After looking online for a good waterproof jacket, comfortable when cycling and that looked casual when not cycling, he quickly realised his choices were almost nonexistent.
And the few jackets on the market that were kind of in-between looked plain and were far from being sustainably made.
From here, the idea of creating functional and sustainable clothes, that look casually cool was born: Labo Mono, and our first product: the Urban Jacket, with 6 bold styles.
We definitely don't aim to blend in. Colours, prints and usability are frontiers that we are always exploring.
Following a user-centred approach, and to make sure we don’t just design a product for ourselves, we interviewed and discussed with many commuters, cyclists and non cyclists to better understand their daily journeys and frustrations.
From there, we sketched, built, tested our prototypes and asked our community to vote some of our decisions, over the last 10 months. We finally ended up with a product we love, and we’re sure you’ll love too!
The Urban Jacket is the work of constant improvements and iterations with the help of our beta users and early adopters (you!).
By pre-ordering an Urban Jacket today, you can help us shape our products and future products during our design review sessions.
From feature suggestions, to new product ideas, we want you to be part of our journey to create even more useful and cool products, made sustainably.
It is important for us to be transparent about our different process, and especially the manufacturing one.
We screened many factories in order to find our current partners, each time looking to work with factories that share our commitment to ethical manufacturing, while being specialised in their own field.
Our main partner is located in Hebei province, China. A factory specialised in technical outerwear, and is where we create most parts of the Urban jacket.
Our second partner is located in Germany. This is where we manufacture our PFC-free water repellent finishing that will be applied to our fabric.
And lastly, near the city of Porto, in Portugal. This is where we are planning to produce our non outerwear range of products, such as recycled shirts and trousers in the future.
We want to build a quality product, with sustainability and social responsibility in mind. As you can imagine, this is not an easy task. But things worth doing rarely are. This is our starting point, and we want to prove that we can build a durable sustainable brand from the ground up, and improve it step by step.

Risks and challenges
We have been working on this project for the last 10 months now, and have spent countless days and weekends developing this amazing product.
We have closely worked with our manufacturers to ensure that quality control is met at every step of the production line.
The current timeline is to start shipping all rewards from October 2019. We understand that no campaign comes without any challenges. Whatever the obstacle, we'll get through it together. We value our backer community and all the support you've shown us. We take communication and transparency very seriously, and we promise to keep you up-to-date throughout the entire process.
If you live outside the EU, please note that our prices do not include VAT, or other country taxes. Depending on where you are based, you may incur additional fees such as taxes and duties. As we are shipping these products worldwide, it is impossible for us to build in these variable costs for each location on Kickstarter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
