Each pledge that contains at least one copy of the game will include all the unlocked stretch goals and any additional copies purchased will also be entitled to stretch goal content.
There are 2 types of stretch goal:
- Box upgrades: Will also be included in the retail version
- Ks exclusive: Will only be accessible to Kickstarter backers*
*All leftover copies of KS exclusive content may be sold via our partners, at events or appear in contests run by La Boite a Jeu. This material will not be reprinted and it will not be available in stores.
If you wish to add this item to your pledge, simply hit the “manage my pledge” button in the top right hand corner of the campaign page and add 10€ to your current pledge amount. During the Pledge Manager you will then be able to specify that it is the game board that you want! As for shipping, there will be NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE to ship this item along with your main game.
In this add-on you get an additionnal seperate board that has on one side the "artwork only" print and on the other side the 2/3rds of the XL board. You then have a final, smaller piece that completes it.
You do NOT need to buy the add on to use the standard board properly.
Created by Grégory Oliver and illustrated by Miguel Coimbra (7 Wonders Duel, Sea of Clouds, Small World…) and published by La Boite de Jeu (10' to Kill), Outlive is a game of worker displacement set in a post-apocalyptic world. You’ll be leading one of four tribes in their struggle to survive in their underground shelters, tucked away from the now largely radioactive surface.
Allocate your resources as best as you can, expand your shelter, recover and fix useful equipment and, above all, keep your tribe alive. Plan your moves carefully; your men are out there gathering food, water, supplies and everything that can be useful to your group. But remember, even after falling by its own hand, the plight of humanity in these ravaged lands has not been enough to foster unity, with tribes becoming more and more hostile towards each other in their eternal search for survival…
Ready your best teams outside. The rumor is spreading, the Convoy is coming and with it your last hope for survival. Space within this procession of salvation is limited though, they will only take the best and the brightest. You must prove your worth and if you need to lose what remains of your humanity in the process… then so be it. You must survive!
Outlive is a 1 (with unlocked stretch goals) to 4 player resource management game where players will compete for survival in a world reclaimed by nature. Its unique workers displacement mechanic will make you feel the struggle of your people as you if you were there. Gather your Tribe, build your strategy and always be ready to move before other Tribes or, failing that, turn their own actions against them. Resources are scarce and if you hesitate your people will go hungry…
After 3 Years of development and hundreds of play tests, Outlive is a game where:
- The presence of different events, leaders and rooms that are assigned to you at the beginning of the game, on top of the items you may find and the abilities you may unlock in your shelter ensure a lot of replayability!
- All the time spent playtesting and balancing has produced a board game that provides a great challenge at the 2, 3 or 4 player level.
- The unique, innovative and interactive movement system ensures that each move must be weighed against the availability of resources as well as presence both your own and other players’ scavenging parties.
- The simple yet effective turn system means that gameplay remains fluid and you won’t have much time to reflect on your next move before play passes to you again.
- A setting and theme that fits perfectly with the mechanics of the game.
Having taken the game to multiple conventions and shown it to a legion of gamers, we know that Outlive is ready to roll out!
Scour what remains of civilisation in search of supplies:
During the day phase you’ll be taking it in turns to activate and move one of your scouting parties. These parties will be able to hunt and scavenge supplies from different areas. Be warned though, supplies are limited and shortages may arise during the turn so plan your moves wisely!
Each turn you will have to move each of your groups to a new area (it’s far too risky to stay in one place for too long). All groups start their turn “inactive” with their meeples laid down. Players then take it in turns to move one group at a time and collect resources from the relevant area. A party that has been activated is stood up to show that it is out in the open.
There are a few rules for this movement:
- Parties can move up to two zones in either direction around the board and can never end its move in the zone it started in.
- You can only have one of your parties in each zone at any given time (too many eggs in one basket and all that).
- A group can move through a zone containing a party of the same colour but cannot finish in one.
- A party can move into a zone containing groups belonging to other players.
To do so he’ll need a microchip (required to collect water from the dam) from the fairground (bottom left). So, if he wants to move into the military base he’ll have to move his “3” group away first and then move his “4” or “5” in. If he wants water, “5” will have to leave first before “3” (he’s the only one that can reach it) can take his place. However he’ll have to collect some tech (microchips) first from the fairground by moving “4” in to collect them after having moved “3” out… Did you get all of that? Yes? Well, if you were then you no doubt would of noticed that one of the resources the player is after will be out of his reach as it won’t be possible for him to execute all these moves… Let’s summarize: If he sends “4” to the fairground then the only one that will be able to go to the military base is “5”, however he’ll have to move “3” first BUT that means that “3” won’t be able to go to the dam because that’s where “5” currently is… He’s therefore going to have to decide between Munitions or water this turn. It’s not just where you go in Outlive that’s important, when you go counts too. It’s important to prioritize what your shelter needs the most when deciding the best way to move and in what order. On top of that, as the day progresses the resources collected by players are not replenished so if you wait too long there may not be any resources left by the time you get there! First come, first served!
A man is a wolf to another man:
You are not alone out there, other clans are seeking the same resources you are and won’t hesitate to take them by force if necessary. If a group moves into a zone that contains other groups of a lower “strength” then they can attempt to raid them. The other groups can defend themselves if the players possess any ammo tokens but failing that they will have to hand over some of their hard earned findings!
Therefore, if you want to properly manage each of your moves you’ll have to keep in mind: where you can move, when you can move there, where your opponents can move, the amount of resources remaining and if you need to visit any other sites beforehand. Phew, have fun!
Feed and shelter your people
After all the groups on the board have been activated the game moves into the night phase. This is where you see just how successful your day’s search has been as you’ll now need to feed your people. You can accumulate more and more survivors as the game progresses. The more you have, the more points you’ll score at the end of the game. If you can’t provide for them however they’ll leave in search of someone who can!
Upgrade your shelter:
Once your people have been fed, it’s time to go to work! Your shelter may be holding out for now but it’s well past its prime and needs a lot of maintenance in order to keep it running! You can even patch up and restore some of the older rooms that have since fallen into disuse, creating more space for your clan and restoring some helpful functionality. If you have any resources left after that you could even try and repair some of the equipment that you brought back from the day’s hunt.
Once the night phase is over, dawn breaks and a new turn begins. It’s a long road to salvation and time is short. After only six turns, the events that you resolves, the survivors that make up your clan as well as the state of the subterranean bunker that is your home will all dictate which clan has what it takes to survive and join the fabled Convoy!

The centrepiece of the game is the amazing board by Miguel Coimbra, who also illustrated all the contents of the box! We can’t thank him enough for all his hard work and input, without which this project would be a shadow of itself!
Collector box specifications
The Collector’s edition box contains 11 2-piece boxes for storing all the contents you’ll need to play the game neatly but that also look fantastic on the table top. Each box is designed to represent the elements it will contain (such as the box below which is for the survivor minis, hence the entrance hatch to a shelter!). A big thank you to Pauline Détraz for her work on these!
Coming very soon a brief sketch of how the collector box will be presented when you open it.
Outlive has a unique worker (dis)placement mechanic that doesn’t really allow for the use of “conventional” miniatures so we got a bit creative when designing those for Outlive. They look great and fit in perfectly with the theme of the game without sacrificing two of the main requirements of these game pieces: They need to be easily discernable (strength) and they need to be able to lie down without rolling around (inactive groups).
Each base has a number of survivors on it equal to its strength value (3, 4 or 5). These are the same models as the 100 survivors for the shelter however they will come assembled to the base and will be coloured for each player.
La boite de jeu was born in late 2013. Benoit, Benjamin and Timothée have been friends since high school, but have since worked in different fields. Brought together by their common love for boardgames, each one of them brings their own set of skills to the company. This teamwork allows them to take a project from a great idea to a great product.
Strarring Greg as the Designer
Gregory Oliver is Outlive's designer. When he was a child he decided to be a veterinary surgeon, then realized how many years of study were necessary. When he was a teenager he opted to be a pro basketball player, then realized that he was barely 5'7'' tall. Finally, as an adult, he challenged himself to create something out of the blue. 4 Years later Outlive is live and Greg is relieved that he didn't disappoint the child he once was.
Starring Benoit as the fearsome taskmaster
Founder of La boite de jeu, Benoit is the core member of the company. He's also a game author (Invazions, 10' to kill) and uses his knowledge to interact with authors, choose artists and to select the games-to-be. He's also a fairly average Magic player but he has his eyes set on the pro-tour one day!
Starring Benjamin as our bearded mascot
Benjamin studied Advertising in a France and takes care of the communications side of the business. From website creation to graphic design, he uses his skills to allow each game to tell its own story. He told us that once he opened his fridge using the Force, but we still have our doubts...
Starring Timothée as the guy who has a kid now
The Man in the shadows, Timothée is the manager of the company. He takes care of the accounting, the logistics and all that boring stuff, so that we can concentrate on making games. He told us he knows the nephew of a guy who’s cousin's brother once met the real Harry Potter!
Starring Mathieu as "The guy with in red shorts"
Mathieu is the new guy. He's in charge of game development with Benoit. He also handles international relations. With his help, La boite de jeu can offer the best games, worldwide. One day, maybe with the help of some liquor (but we are not sure, the day in question remains very blury), he told us that he will write a book, or a comic book or maybe he was just talking about his whishlist to santa-claus.
Starring Jamie as the Community manager from hell
There once was a boy who never grew out of toy soldiers, who discovered that they became even better when you splattered them with paint and threw dice at them. Even though his splatter and dice throwing techniques have improved over the years he remains a giant manchild at heart. When he isn’t playing board games, Jamie is an expert in kickstarter and community management and loves seeing great games come to life!
Starring Miguel Coimbra as the illustrator
A few words about myself: My name is Miguel Coimbra aka toastyyy. I am a selftaught freelance artist currently living near Lyon (France) and I’ve been working in the industry for 8 years. First as a graphic designer, then as a concept artist for video games (eden games) and now working fulltime as a freelance artist for Role Playing Game, books, trading card games, book covers, concept art for video games. I've worked for various clients including: Upperdeck/blizzard, Wizards of the Coast, Sony/ lucasart,Rackham, Alderac, Green ronin, Triking Games, White wolf, UniverPoche, Bragelonne, Mango, flammarion this include licences like : world of warcraft, star wars, Everquest, dungeon and dragons, vampire, warhammer, Legend of the 5 rings.
A special thank to Pauline Détraz for design of storage boxes.
Thank to Guillaume Gille-Naves and Igor Polouchine from Origames for the artistic direction.
Risks and challenges
We are quite used to Kickstarter. Our first campaign was a success, and has been funded up to 875%, reaching not less than 19 stretch goals. The game has been produced and delivered successfully. The campaign was closed by the end of June 2015, and the delivery was done in October 2015. We try our best to stay close to our community trough Kickstarter comments, private messages and through our Facebook page. We really do take your feedback into account, and love interacting with our community.
Outlive has already been fully designed and play-tested. All artwork and graphic design elements have been completed ahead of the kickstarter campaign and we have also reached agreements with our partners for the pledge manager, manufacturing and shipping so that we can get your game to you as quickly as possible after the kickstarter campaign ends.
We estimate a February 2017 delivery date. This corresponds to the time we believe will be necessary to prepare the game for manufacturing, produce it and ship it to you. It also includes a safety margin too in case we come across any unforeseen circumstances. It is in our best interests to get the game to our backers as soon as possible and we will do our utmost to ensure that there are no delays, however, it may be that a situation arises that is out of our control, such as issues with shipping, customs or problems at the factory. Should anything cause this date to change we will of course keep you updated.
If, for any reason, we are unable to produce the game we will provide a full refund to all our backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
