Cabals: Magic & Battle Cards is the perfect combination of a card game and a board game created by Mika Rosendahl, a MTG champion. The digital version of Cabals has been available worldwide for years and loved by players and reviewers alike.
The game takes place in an alternative universe, based in the 1930s, spiced with occultism, witchcraft, mesmerism and secret societies. The box contains everything you need to start playing Cabals with your friends. With a single box you can play games from 2 to 4 people.
In the world of Cabals secret societies are struggling for power employing forbidden arts. Each cabal draws its inspiration from the actual folklore and old fairytales of its region. The Cabals world currently covers areas of Germany, Russia, Ireland, China, Egypt and beyond, embracing the unique traits of each region's folklore.
The box contains cards of four different cabals, each having different playing style.
Bearclaw Brotherhood: Shamans of the north, unleashing the forces of arctic nature and the hatred of the dead. Command over human minds and the realms of the spirits will bring all opposition to its knees. The Bearclaw units can usually survive heavy damage and some of them aim to freeze the game board and aim to win by Victory Points.
Danann Covenant: Aristocratic witches about to release the vengeful faerie people of old into the 20th century. Under the ancient burial mounds an inhuman army is biding its time. As some of the faerie folk are fragile there's also strong units present. Danann witches are also very good at bringing even the weakest units to the top of the food chain.
Vril Society: Combining ancient Hyperborean energies of the underworld with brutal modern technology. Their ruthless will to power is fueled by total readiness for self- sacrifice causing massive damage to opponents.
Order of Zahir: Men learned in esoteric lore and trained in scientific rigor in quest for eternal life. Will they succeed in the Great Work of Alchemy and attain total mastery over matter? The versatile magic of Zahir can make units to disappear and transform creatures to other fiends.
Playing Cabals you get to control powerful wizards, magic users and witches aiming to conquer the opponent’s stronghold or build up magical dominance. Arcane creatures and esoteric individuals help the heroes in their goal. Four separate cabals thrive for superiority.
In Cabals, the deck building strategy and deep meta game meets the tactical aspects of the game board. The basic game mechanics are intricate but simple. By controlling special resource locations on the game board you gain resources used to summon creatures and play action cards. To win the game your goal is to move one of your creatures to the opponents stronghold. To execute this you must manage your resources carefully, maneuver your units to correct locations and play action cards wisely.
The game board for two player games is usually a 5x5 grid with some special locations. The board itself is assembled from pieces and each board piece is two sided so the amount of possible board layouts is expansive.
In Cabals: The Board Game (MSRP $50) you can collect the cards you wish to build your deck to outsmart your opponents. There won't be booster packs however as cards will be available through carefully designed expansions that may also contain new board pieces and heroes.
The tokens in this game are made of 2mm punch board covered with 100g/m2 label paper, linen finish and dispersion varnish. The board is made of the same material. The cards are 300g/m2 premium quality cardboard with linen finish, dispersion varnish and black core. So, all parts are made to last for years.

The gameplay of the Cabals: the Board Game is getting ready as the final version of the Rule Book is being made. After that we will focus on creating the final card lists for the starter decks. That list will become available here when finished.
We have also contacted manufacturer, set up the price for print run and preparing the materials to be print ready. So, we are making final tweaks that we'll get done during this Kickstarter and then we are ready to print!

Rewards will be shipped from either USA or Europe depending on your location. This should avoid additional taxes for anyone in those areas. We have done our best to keep the shipping costs as low as possible without risking the project. We are trying to reduce shipping costs even further but these are already really good. For US backers the shipping will be $3, for EU backers the cost is $5 and for other countries $10.
Cabals: The Board Game is designed and developed by Mika Rosendahl, game enthusiast and CEO of Kyy Games. A fanatic card game player having become national Magic The Gathering champion and ranked in the Top 20 in the world. Started in game industry in 2006 whilst studying business.
Lasse Hirvonen is our business supremo and the one who has calculated the budget for this project taking into account every last little added tax possible so there shouldn't be a problem there. With a strong background in game design and production since 2002 is instrumental in the development of this project.
Jarno Kantelinen is the one responsible for the incredible artwork you see in Cabals. He has been working on multiple game and illustration projects professionally since 2006 and is excitedly working on the look of Cabals: The Board Game!
Sami Simola has long been designing cards and writing the story behind Cabals: Magic & Battle Cards. His outstanding way with words and creative card design give the game it's key feel and depth we all love.
Mika, Lasse, Jarno and Sami are really the powerhouses behind this project but of course we are capitalizing on the skills of everyone in the company. We have programmers, artists and usability specialists contributing through design, testing and feedback to help reach the final release product in time for being distributed to you in December 2015.

As the game mechanics have seen extensive testing in the digital version and been adjusted and improved upon for the tabletop version, we see no risk on this side. We definitely can create the game that you will love to play. The risks lay in the unpredictable domain of manufacturing, shipping and overseas deliveries.
