That Reddit thread is actually kind of funny. It's just a few people saying "It's just a relabeling of *insert link here* this knife." Amusing how none of the linked knives even remotely resemble the Kytcho knife, other than it being a blade with a handle.

@Alexandre I think the campaign page says 13 degrees. It's right under the diagram of the knife's dimensions.

    3. Alexandre Mc Grath am June 28

Another question, what is the edge's angle? 20 degrees? more?

    4. Alexandre Mc Grath am June 28

Holy cow... that's a SOLID knife! Thanks!

    5. KYTCHO Power Blade + US FinCera (deleted) Projektgründer am June 28

      @Alexandre, it's 60.5 degree.

    6. Alexandre Mc Grath am June 28

Hi! Just a quick question... in terms of hardness, how high does it scores on the Rockwell Scale?

    7. KYTCHO Power Blade + US FinCera (deleted) Projektgründer am June 28

      @Patrick: Thanks again: 11cm/4.33 inches

Okay, I'll ask the question another way: How far into the handle does the blade tang extend?

    9. KYTCHO Power Blade + US FinCera (deleted) Projektgründer am June 28

@Thomas: thanks a lot, as we have learned the most campaigns have those kind of "fans". :)

Came here via https://www.reddit.com/r/shittykickstarters/comments/4pi3ho/generic_black_ceramic_knife_off_china_supposedly/ ... I think those guys are missing the point. :-) Looking forward to cut some onions. Those poor vegetables don't know what's coming at them.

@Tony: Thanks a lot, we keep that up.
@Bobak: It is not a soft rubber. It is ABS with TPR coating. Very durable.
@Patrick: The blade has special cutouts to guarantee optimal hold and connection to the handle.
@Victor: We are sorry that you do not like it when we do advertising for other campaigns in our updates. We will try to visualy separate the ads even more from the actual content, so that it is instantly recognizable and you don't read it accidentally.

Agreed. No full tang is very troubling, if that's the case. I've had many knives break due to a crappy injection molded handle. I would like full details of the make-up of the knife, please. (You didn't answer Jurgen's question: How is the blade anchored into the injection-molded handle?)

    13. Bobak Nayebdadash am June 27

On the fence about staying on board for this one. The details of the tech behind it is sketchy to a layman like myself. Don't like that it isn't a full tang with a wooden or hardened plastic handle. The handle seems like a soft plastic/rubber found on cheap knifes. Gotta wonder how long it will last with daily use. I'll take another look in a week or so to decide.

    14. Victor Omirov am June 27

Guys, can we have the updates mostly focused on the campaign and not on advertising and promotion of other KS campaigns?

@Kytcho: Perfect. That will go a long way. I will likely be raising my pledge depending on the results of these tests. I believe others will increase their pledges and that you will find an increase in pledges overall. Hopefully those will make it in time. Data and comparisons can truly make a project explode.

    20. KYTCHO Power Blade + US FinCera (deleted) Projektgründer am June 26

@NickS: also a good idea, we will deliver that.
@Shea: Right, we need something to compare. During the campaign we learned that. That's why we bought 3 premium knifes (1 stainless, 2 ceramic), we should receive them this week. We ship them to material research institute to be tested against ours.

Would be nice to see a CATRA test done also, but I don't know how accessible that machine is. It produces a sharpness value out of the box and a curve that represents edge retention. Cutting a frozen pizza or an aluminum can would be cool to see also, but the CATRA test actually has data that can be compared to other knives. Thank you for the responses btw.

Something else that could be interesting -- video of cutting a piece of paper. That's another simple test which gives a sense of sharpness. Like this (just the first example that I found): https://www.youtube.com/watch…

I had a very sharp kyocera ceramic knife, until my wife used it to cut a frozen pizza. Needless to say, the knife is no longer useful because there's a chip and a crack extending into the blade.

Can yours be used to cut a frozen pizza? :p

    25. KYTCHO Power Blade + US FinCera (deleted) Projektgründer am June 26

@Shea: Yes you are right, we also do not often drop a knife ;) As you can see in our drop tests (also on point) on granite it is good to know that if it would happen, the knife would not be damaged. The durability of a knife (especially ceramic) is directly related with it's edge retention, means it keeps it's sharpness and does not chip. Most ceramic knifes are brittle what supports chipping. With our new material we reached much more flexibility.
@Francis: Thank you. Those backers helped us a lot to improve our campaign. We don't care if 1 Euro or 200 Euro. Very critical backers helped us showing more transparency and features of the knife we did not thought about at the start.

I asked because I wanted a well put together argument detailing the differences between the two. I'm already a backer (more than a euro) and would still like to see some more practical tests regarding the ability of the blade to retain sharpness. I have seen a Kyocera blade endure several drop tests including one straight on its point. In 20 years I have not dropped a knife so that doesn't really matter all that much to me. I'm not saying the other knives are equivalent, because I don't believe they are. I'm saying that you would receive more funding if you demonstrated how yours were superior.

    27. Francis Tern (deleted) am June 26

@KYTCHO: I absolutely agree with you. This is an awesome knife. The drop tests are very impressive, never seen a ceramic knife doing that without breaking into thousand parts. Can't wait to get mine. P.S.: Don't worry about people spending 1 Euro on your project just to comment something they have no clue about. You can see on their profiles that they doing it with other projects also. ;) Success = envious people, that's the nature of the beast.

    28. KYTCHO Power Blade + US FinCera (deleted) Projektgründer am June 26

      @Shea: Thanks for your question.
We love to explain what the difference is.

Equipment: KYTCHO comes with a sheath, too.

Economic sustainability: Our blade is made in the US. The others also?

They use mirror blade finishing. Looks good at the beginning. Very prone to scratches.

Do they use Ultra Nano? (=less brittle, =more durable) No, they don't.

Ever tried to sharpen a ceramic knife with a diamond dust sharpener without fixed angle layout? Impossible. You will never be able to find the right angle to sharpen it - or if you may find it - to keep the angle over the length of the whole blade and on both sides. So this sharpener is just useless.

Did we see any drop tests on granite of their knifes like we provide? No.
The key point of the people doing a review about these knifes is the nice packaging they have. Hmm. Please don't mind if we focus on a professional knife instead of a shiny packaging (but you'll get a packaging anyway, it's just not the thing we think is most important about a knife) :)

@Nick: in standard/normal household usage it do not have to be sharpened. In heavy (restaurant) usage, you can sharpen it with any diamond sharpener with a fixed angle layout if necessary.

    29. Nick Crutchfield am June 25

What is the average life of the edge of the blade prior to needing to hone and/or sharpen it?

@Crispin: Thanks again for your comment.
We think the best way to get all the doubt out of the way will be when we're filming a drop test by ourselves. So that's what we will do asap.
We are very thankful that Jakob did that test for us, even if he is a "ex" executive chef - he worked more than 35 years in this job. And as it is no affiliated review we are even more proud.
Tyre/Car: The Tyre drove over Handle and 3/4 of the blade right over the breaking point of the most usual ceramic knifes. Otherwise this test would not have made any sense. Thanks a gain for your comments and helping us to achieve more transparency.

That weird clip of an "ex" executive chef gently allowing the knife to fall flat on the ground (I actually think it landed handle-first) is not the official "drop test video", right? That does nothing to show how strong it is; I have dropped delicate cellphones from similar heights and they are fine because the force is spread over a surface area. I'm pretty sure we are wanting to see what happens if it accidentally knocked off a bench, and specifically point-first or edge-first.

And the same goes for the car tyre strength test; the handle is obviously inside the outer edge of the wheel which means it is unlikely the tyre came anywhere near the blade, so all the video is showing is the handle doesn't crush.

Guys, if your intention is to prove the strength and reliability of your product, then these videos are not helping, in fact they are looking like you're trying to mislead people. They do you a dis-service.

Do you have other videos planned?

    41. KYTCHO Power Blade + US FinCera (deleted) Projektgründer am June 22

@NickS: Thank you :) We will go on this way. It's our first campaign and we have learned a lot since beginning.
@Thomas: In our long term tests (5 months) it did not lose sharpness. We tested it under normal usage environment. If the knife should lose sharpness under heavy usage it can be sharpened with any diamond sharpeners.

Thank you for the video.....the only thing i concern is how sharp it can last....like other famous brands....they still need to sharpening after period of using, i know this knife is more harder than others....but is it really like what you said it don't need to sharpening if use it for normally except cutting on the hard stuffs?

I just wanted to say that I appreciate the people asking questions in comments and your answers. I know, for myself, that I'd be interested in higher quality ceramic knife, so I'm interested, and also feel like the original campaign page didn't give enough information to tell if the knife would live up to the claims.

Seeing you answer questions and add video makes me feel better, and I'm definitely hoping that you will continue to post more information before the end of the campaign.

@Crispin: Thanks a lot for your comment. Let us answer your questions:

@Creators: My concern over this project is growing since I've read some of your replies and the questions that haven't been answered; I've backed too many campaigns now not to be aware of the warning signs of internal management, backer communication and product design.

So a couple of questions while we see how the next couple of weeks go:

      1) What date do you expect the videos (drop test, tip and edge strength test, sharpness longevity, etc) to be complete and published? I assume these will be available before the campaign ends?

      2) A lot of us use magnetic knife racks (to keep knives away from children and out of knife blocks and drawers that can dull blades) to store knives. I know your blade is non-magnetic, so may I suggest adding a metal strip to the knife sheath you are designing? If you included a metal strip on an edge or the sides of the sheath (it could even be internal and invisible) along with a lip for the ago/return/heel of the blade to 'sit' on when the sheath was vertical then this could be a simple yet very functional addition to the sheath - what are your thoughts on this, please?

Any chance you are considering making sportsman type knives, like hunting/skinning or fishing/fillet knives? Butcher shop style knives that stay sharp at a reasonable price would go over big in these markets. Thanks, looking forward to using your knives.
