Our story
Leon, Co-founder of KYON, has a very busy schedule but also a very special bond with Charlie – his 9 year-old Maltese. He wanted to find a device that would track his dog wherever it was and also provide important information on its well being. Nothing in the current market satisfied Leon’s quest for Charlie’s comfort and security. Therefore an idea emerged to create something innovative that would embed technology inside of a collar without add-ons or risk of losing a tracking device.
How does it work?
KYON Basestation or your phone acts as a beacon between the collar and the outside world, through your home WiFi or cellular network.The KYON Collar works together with our user-friendly mobile application. It allows you to monitor, track, and receive information or alerts. This unique tracking device is available and fully functional in more than 160 countries world-wide.

KYON Main Features
Never lose your pet
You can create a perimeter where your dog is in a safe zone from 65 to 300 ft. If your pet escapes that range, KYON 3D GPS Tracking on the collar is enabled and you are immediately notified. This is a brand new technology that locates your pet in 3-Axis, indicating even the floor that it is on. In addition, the KYON Collar also displays helpful contact information right on the collar, which will enable someone to contact you.

Heat protection
KYON is able to monitor surrounding temperature in real-time so just when your pet is getting hot, you will receive an alert on your phone and a message on the collar. KYON will also inform you of when your pet is feeling cold.
So you can always get to your pet in time.

Water sensor
KYON is the first pet collar with a water sensor that could prevent your pet from drowning; by immediately notifying you when your little one is in danger.

Dog fight "Pacifier"
Wouldn't it be great if you could somehow prevent a dog fight? With its unique pacifying technology, the KYON Collar will activate a high frequency sound that can help prevent unnecessary trouble for your pet.
A gentle way to stop barking!
While barking can be an annoying behavior, it is relatively simple to calm your dog down.The first step is to activate the “Shh…!” feature on the KYON App. An ultrasound - a discomforting but not at all harmful high frequency sound - that only your dog can hear, will be emitted from the collar and barking immediately stops !
Feel your pet's mood with KYON Sense Technology
Being away from your pet for hours at a time is not easy. What if you could know how your pet is feeling all day long? With its 9-Axis accelerometer, KYON is able to monitor activity levels over time, so that you can constantly know if your little one is happy or feeling a bit off. KYON will warn you in time if your pet needs your attention.
The KYON App
Since pets are often family members, we wanted to develop an App simple enough to help us understand their feelings and needs. For the first time you can know for certain whenever your pet is sick, needs a walk, feels comfortable or is in danger, all via your cell phone.
KYON also has other helpful features like vet appointments, in flight travel updates, annual vaccination and walk reminders.

With a battery life of up to 30 days*, the KYON Collar features a series of components seen for the first time: An Altimeter, Bluetooth 4.0, a 9-Axis accelerometer, a heat sensor, LED display, an Ultrasound buzzer, a Water sensor, GSM and GPS.

KYON development stages
The KYON project was designed and developed within a two and a half year period in order to create a smart and innovative pet collar, as well as to ensure the highest level of quality. After a series of prototypes, test-phases and upgrades, we have finally perfected every aspect of its unique features, creating the smartest and most cutting-edge pet collar on the market.
Project timeline
- May ‘13: First ideas about the project
- May ’13: LED display was added as a user interface to display messages
- November ’13: RF was replaced with Bluetooth 4.0 in order to be compatible with smartphones
- December ’13: Added heat sensor
- February ’14: Added an Accelerometer to monitor pet activity
- August ’14: Basestation prototype testing
- December ’14: 9-axis Accelerometer (magnetometer, gyroscope) was added for more detailed data
- January ’15: Mobile app testing
- July ’15: Final collar design
- August ’15: Added water sensor
- October ’15: Fully working prototypes
- December ’15: Prototype’s testing

Service fee*: $ 4,99 /month Excluding Taxes and shipping costs.
*This monthly service fee covers the cost to use the cellular network which enables the collar owner to locate his pet when not in range with the Basestation or the cell phone.

Riesgos y desafíos
The project started two and a half years ago and since then a whole group of people, hardware/software engineers and CAD designers, have been working hard to make this idea happen. The original design has been changed several times, in order to be able to fulfill the wanted high standard requirements. We had to fit over 400 electronic components into the thinnest piece of technology, e.g. Bluetooth, GPS, GPRS/3G and many sensors such as a water sensor, a heat sensor, an altimeter, a 9-axis accelerometer and at the same time maintain the core functionality of a regular collar.
During this process, the key milestones were:
1. Designing a flexible PCB.
2. Finding the best way to manage the battery power and the working power consumption.
3. Integrating a variety of sensors and different technologies into one platform.
4. Achieving to keep generated heat at the minimum.
5. Over-molding sensitive (and high density) electronics, creating the KYON pet collar.
