moments in time perfectly capture a point of growth in your life. What if we
take that moment and paint it for all to see? Studying abroad in Switzerland,
Adrienne was immersed in a culture that she was unfamiliar with. There were
times of stress due to great cultural differences. Her experience could have
been one of grief, but in a single moment all of it changed. It
is this moment that we want to share with the world by commissioning an artist
to portray Adrienne’s story on a painted canvas. Through this project two mediums - paint and narrative - will be fused into one for a unique artistic and cultural experience.
By contributing to our
Kickstarter project, you can be a part of this cultural story-telling
experience and at the same time encourage many more students to study abroad, exposing them to
life-changing events in other societies.
Who am I?
My name is Kyle Dillingham, and I am the Global Ambassador for the University of Central Oklahoma. As a violinist, I have practiced what I call musical diplomacy for the university for seven years. A beautiful element of music is that it unites people. But the same is true of any kind of art, and in this case, a painting. In
partnership with the International House, I am launching this project to
tell the stories that are worth sharing - stories such as Adrienne's. Through this project, we want our community and
beyond to join with us in realizing that education and growth go much further
than the walls of a school-building.
How it works
All of the money for this project will
go toward finding an artist that will tell Adrienne’s story. I have a great team that will solicit
proposals from various artist and select one to tell her story. As far as we know, no one is doing this and
we hope to build on the uniqueness of this project to tell these wonderful
stories, which will encourage students to take great adventures abroad and to learn about other cultures and countries.

in a collection of ten pieces, this painting will be displayed at the
International House located at the University of Central Oklahoma. The
International House is a crossroads of sorts where Americans and internationals come together
to learn from one another’s cultures and experiences, making it a perfect
location to house such a work. Next to the commissioned work will be a framed
showcase of Adrienne’s story, as well as a photograph of Adrienne and the
It is important to note that the
University of Central Oklahoma is a collaborator in this project in the sense
that they will permanently house the collection. However, all funds directly benefit the
artists and no funds go to the university.
The support for the project will be distributed as follows:
80% will be going to the commissioned artist.
20% will be used for rewards packages, promotion of completed painting, and travelling of the exhibit, if we exceed our goal of $5,000.
rewards packages start as low as a $10 pledge and range from email updates and
recognition of your support to a giant package containing a 36" limited
edition signed print on canvas delivered in poster tube ready for framing, a
signed printed narrative of the story, photograph of the artist, student, and
canvas, and a permanent name placement as underwriter of project piece.
our goal of $5,000 will drastically open up our possibilities. Though the
painting will be housed permanently in the International House, it is our
desire that the painting travel, that a wider variety of people are exposed to
not only the fusion of art and cultural story-telling, but also to the
possibility of having a multi-cultural experience of their own.
Because this is the first in a ten-piece collection, we have only accounted for the first piece. Our ultimate goal is $100,000, which would fund all ten pieces and account for the extra ends of the project which are outlined above. Please know that if you are able to support our project, any funds that go over the initial $5,000 would go towards the continuation of the overall ten-piece project and towards travel expenses as mentioned above.
support for this project you are not only supporting the Arts, but you are enabling future students to share experiences
such as Adrienne’s. You are also empowering our society to become more diverse,
tolerant, and understanding of barriers that exist between peoples and nations
and, more importantly, how those barriers may be overcome.

When our project is funded our primary risk will be communicating a new concept in the fusion of art and cultural storytelling. Sharing a transformational experience through art on canvas will bring new light to students. Our primary challenge will be connecting the audience with a moment in time several thousand miles from home.
