TRANSATLANTIC FUSION WITH A SOUTHERN TWIST
Hi there, and thanks so much for being here! My name is Kyle Carey, and I’m a singer-songwriter who crafts a fusion of Celtic and American music I call ‘Gaelic Americana’. I’ve released two critically acclaimed albums - Monongah, which I recorded in Ireland and my previous and first fan-funded album North Star - recorded in Glasgow.
Both albums landed on a numerous ‘Best of’ lists during their release years, and both laid a wonderful foundation for my career - leading to regular national and international touring.
Along the way I’ve collaborated with musicians I admire, made wonderful new friends, seen beautiful places and I hope - made countless folks happy in concert and in stereo.
But the one thing I’ve enjoyed above all else is sharing this journey with my friends and fans - whether it be through my live performances, newsletters, social media, or better yet - a cup of coffee with someone beloved when I finally do return home.
Though this journey has been both inspiring and rewarding - it's tempered with dedication and hard work - first and foremost to the craft itself. These experiences continually inspire me to develop and grow as a singer and a songwriter - so it’s only right that I honor this growth with a new album!
Now that I’ve carved out a niche for my transatlantic sound, I’m ready to add a new element, and so I’ll be heading down to Louisiana in January to record my third album The Art of Forgetting with seasoned and acclaimed producer Dirk Powell - who I’m truly honored to have the opportunity to work with.
Dirk and I have already discussed the ways in which we can present ‘Gaelic Americana’ with a slight Acadian twist, which includes conscripting the aid of veteran guitarist Sam Broussard of 'Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys' - an expert Cajun and alternate-tuning guitarist.
We’ll be laying the basic tracks in Dirk’s beautiful home-studio known as the ‘Cypress House’ and then through the winter - adding accompaniment from the finest Celtic and American musicians from both sides of the Atlantic.
With a wonderful graphic designer (Heidi Pitre!), exemplary backing musicians, mastering services already secured and a team of talented promoters to spread the word - I’m confident that this album will be some of my finest work, and make an even bigger splash than its predecessors.
But YOU are the secret and most treasured ingredient…
Having recorded two albums and lived abroad - I feel as though I have a unique perspective on the music industry. I see some of the funding opportunities that are available to my peers overseas and in Canada, as well as the distinct financial challenges that face independent American musicians.
My friends and fans are my ‘record label’, my most treasured support system, and if we can bring one beautiful album into the world as a community - I’m confident that we can do so with another, and confident you trust I won’t let you down.
To make The Art of Forgetting worthy of its predecessors, I need to raise $28,000 in thirty-five days. This is the bare-bones amount needed to complete and modestly promote the project.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown on where the funding will go -
I realize this seems like an exorbitant amount, but in truth this sum is quite humble in relation to the caliber of album I hope to create. What’s more, the budget doesn’t cover any travel expenses, or allow for overseas promotion - an important element for an artist who tours internationally. I would love for this worthy project to have the funding it deserves, finding its way to numerous ears and hearts across the Atlantic.
In order to reach these aims I'll need to raise more - closer to $35,000.
Which is why I need your support. I have 35 days to reach my goal.
If I don’t, all pledges will be returned, your credit cards will not be charged, and the Art of Forgetting runs the risk of being forgotten.
I’ve known since the day I wrote my first song, at eighteen, that this is the only life for me. I love creating, sharing my songs and most of all - I love bringing joy and solace into people’s lives.
Please join me on this journey, so I might continue to do what is so fulfilling and meaningful to me, and to my audience.
Thank you for your consideration, for your support, and for being a part of this adventure.

Risks and challenges
One thing that makes me feel particularly confident about this project is that I already have two full-length albums and an EP under my belt. Aside from working with seasoned professionals, I have a team of designers, promoters and engineers I’ve worked with in the past signed on - all of whom I trust completely. I strive to not let anything out the door that’s not of the utmost calibre, and I believe my audience trusts in my ability to deliver, and deliver well.
That being said, unexpected setbacks can always occur in any creative process. Should anything delay the release of The Art of Forgetting - I promise to keep you fully in the loop, and by my side - every step of the way. We’re in this together and I won’t let you down.
