*** WE MADE IT!!! ***
Thank you so much, all of you, for playing a part in making 'North Star' a reality! Four days before my birthday, five before the deadline, and we're officially funded!! I couldn't have asked for a finer gift. I am so delighted to be making this album with you!
But...there's still a bit of time. There are four days left to get in on the following--
- A copy of 'North Star' digital or physical, before it's released!
- Shortbread cookies from Scotland!
- Exclusive 'North Star' Heidi Pitre Poster
- Project updates & thank-you postcard from Glasgow
- A song for you--about you!
- Handwritten Lyric Sheets
The $17,500 won't cover all of the production costs, nor allow for a promotional budget. Let's carry on, so this album can reach its full potential!
Thank you, thank you, taing mhòr...
ALL THINGS WEST KERRY
My name is Kyle Carey--I'm a songwriter and singer based in New England. My debut album 'Monongah' was recorded in Dingle, Ireland two and a half years ago and produced by Donogh Hennessy--one of the founding members of the renowned Irish group Lúnasa. In the summer of 2011, 'Monongah' rose to #8 on the international Folk DJ Charts, attracting a hefty dose of critical acclaim, and landing on a good few national and international 'Best of' lists by the year's end.
Part of the reason why 'Monongah' was so warmly received, I think, is because the virtue of the album eclipsed its budget. Many involved in the creation and promotion of my debut went above and beyond the call of duty in support of a project they believed in. It was a wonderful gift in which to help me begin!
I began booking tours just as soon as 'Monongah' was released, and since then, I've toured the west and east coasts of the United States, different parts of Canada, Europe and the UK.
I've made lifelong friends through my travels and the sharing of my music, collaborated with different artists I admire, and grown exponentially as a performer and singer. One thing I've learned in each and every place I've played is that music brings joy into people's lives.
It has been an incredibly rewarding two and a half years!
it's time for a follow up.
WISHING ON A STAR
In the winter of 2013, I spent the month of February on the Gulf of Mexico on an artist's residency called Escape to Create. There I was given the time and precious space of four weeks to write a collection of songs for my next CD. I'm proud of what came out of that, and very fond of these new characters. I'd love to introduce them to you!
I have faith that my sophomore album, 'North Star', will bring me to a level of long-term sustainability in professional music.
I have the songs all written, January recording dates set, and a fantastic producer on board to help steer its artistic vision. Seamus Egan, founder of the acclaimed Irish American band Solas, has worked extensively with both traditional musicians and singer songwriters, as well as produced a number of other artists I greatly admire. To have the opportunity to work with someone like Seamus, so early in my career, is an incredible vote of confidence.
With phenomenal backing musicians lined up, a great designer (fellow Escapee Heidi Pitre!), a collection of top notch studios in and around Glasgow to choose from, and mastering engineer Chris Graham--who has agreed to provide his music mastering services, I am confident that this album will be a project of grace and endurance.
BUT I CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!
To make a worthy follow up to my debut, and an album that will move my career forward--an album with perseverance and vision, I need to raise $17,500 in thirty five days. This is the amount I need to simply complete the project.
- Recording, Editing & Mixing in the Studio-$9,000
- Paying Musicians-$3,000
- Mastering the CD-$1,000
- Graphic Design & Website-$1,000
- Packaging and CD Duplication-$1,500
- Poster Printing-$250
- Kickstarter and Amazon take of 10%-$1,750
I know this seems like a hefty sum, but in reality, this is a very modest budget for the quality of CD I want to make. This doesn't include any kind of promotion, extra merchandising, or travel costs. I would love to have the initial 'oomph' to get 'North Star' into the hands of the 'powers that be' immediately after its release in the spring. Much of an album's "success" these days hinges on its promotional budget.
In order to do this, I need much more--closer to $30,000.
And that is why I need your support.
I have 35 days to reach my goal.
If I don't, every nickel and dime will be returned to you, and 'North Star' may remain nothing more than a wish upon a star.
This is my one and true calling, the only life for me. I love traveling, sharing my songs, and bringing music into people's lives. I hope you'll consider helping me continue to do so!
Thank you so much for visiting, for your support, and for your faith in my music.
Risks and challenges
If there's one thing I've learned in my still fledgling career, it's that nothing is set in stone, or guaranteed when it comes to 'the biz'. Setbacks can occur in the recording process, and unforeseen difficulties arise. All I can promise is to handle what challenges do come my way with professionalism and perseverance. I believe I've set reasonable and attainable goals with this album. I've done the prep work necessary to deliver to you a project worthy of your support. I'll keep you in the loop, and at my side, every step of the way. Thank you again for your faith in me.
And thank you to my fab stepbrother Steve Pelizza for his video editing and filming prowess, web work, and general moral support these past few weeks. You rock sir! Thank you as well to Ron Janssen, Heidi Pitre, Craig Werth and Mathias Heijen for your insight, feedback, support and ever treasured friendships.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
