Dolphins In The Sky is a low budget independent feature film inspired by real events. A life affirming comedy drama about Family, Dance and Love. Set in the present day in the World Heritage city of Bath, it will be shot on location in summer 2019. The film will be produced by the respected production company Joka Films on a budget of £200K.
KAE BAHAR, Writer & Director
The film’s script is by the award-winning Kurdish writer Kae Bahar, a British citizen who has spent 25 years in England, including 15 years living in Bath, married to Bath-born artist Josie Bahar. Kae studied in Europe and has worked internationally as a documentary filmmaker and actor. He has produced several films for Channel 4, BBC and Al Jazeera. I AM SAMI, his directorial debut film drama, had over 150 screenings in international film festivals, winning 53 awards. Dolphins In The Sky is Kae’s first feature film, the first of many to come.
SOME OF OUR WONDERFUL TEAM
“With film, I have to learn how to use people to the best of their ability and motivate them to be as passionate about the project as I am.” Ice Cube
Jay Robson, a famous British choreographer, is living the dream. Married to the two loves of his life - his wife and the art of dance. He has the blissful life most of us dream of... until a series of unfortunate events demonstrates the power of illness, its impact on your life and those around you. “Jeez, it's like when you miss your period and all you see are bloody pregnant women all around you. Cute adverts for prams, formula, babies everywhere!”
Faced with the horrors of life and loss, Jay escapes into fantasy, increasingly losing himself in the world of dance. Will he make it out alive? Or will he let go of those he loves in the battle to survive?
We are often reminded that the best ideas for writing stories are those that originate from our reality, not only because they are genuine and authentic, but also because they deal with universal themes that connect us all.
DOLPHINS IN THE SKY, inspired by real events, is neither a grim representation of this widespread deadly disease nor a campaign for change, but a socially impactful celebration of life.
Important themes are explored and conveyed through the ups and downs of life. Moments of laughter and humour will balance the sadness and the struggle for survival.
Kae’s vision is to create an engaging and entertaining film by juxtaposing family life, love, passion and relationships with the struggle between life and death.
We will also weave in contemporary dance, choirs and music, all set against the backdrop of the beautiful, historic city of Bath.
As a filmmaker and writer who has often faced difficult situations in his life, Kae bounced back from his brush with cancer, resolving to turn his personal and intimate experience into a film, not only for the sake of his family, but also to shed light on this deadly disease and turning this dark, depressing situation into a life affirming story.
DOLPHINS IN THE SKY will be purposeful, informative, educational, but more importantly it will take the audience on a unique, inspiring journey of self-discovery. We will raise important questions about a disease that takes one man’s life every hour in the UK, but ultimately, this is an uplifting film with plenty of heart to remind us that, with the love and support of family and friends, we can turn any obstacle, even cancer, into a happy life-affirming situation.
DOLPHINS IN THE SKY will take you on a rollercoaster ride of an emotional journey where you will laugh, cry and experience a life affirming story. My goal as a director is to make a film with heart that is entertaining, engaging, educational and emotionally touching. A story told with pace and style, where visuals are mixed with sound, music and song. A film that will captivate audiences in the UK and around the world.
The film will be shot entirely on location in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath, England. Historic locations include Great Pulteney Street, the Royal Crescent, the Theatre Royal, Pulteney Bridge and the surrounding countryside.
MUSIC & SOUND
Original score; solo piano composition and orchestra for the dance scenes. Choir singing and piano playing for the rehearsal and Robsons home scenes. We will also weave in pop music, subject to royalties. The music will be interspersed with sounds of nature, wind and the sea, and the bustle, noise, seagulls and sirens of the city .
