Hi, My name is Krystal Mack and I make Ice Pops!
I am a proud Baltimorean residing in the beautiful neighborhood of Mount Vernon.
I'm hoping you will help
me bring my Ice Pop business KarmaPop to the streets of Baltimore!
KarmaPop started with me looking for healthy and unique frozen dessert alternatives to ice cream.
As a a food lover I didn't really like what I found in stores as far as flavors.Sometimes I wanted a healthy but delicious treat and its hard to find that when it comes to desserts in general. Other times I felt like the options were too basic. Don't get me wrong. I love a good Cherry ice pop like the next person but I do want it to contain actual cherry and not weird flavorings or artificial ingredients. I couldn't really find that anywhere. Also there would be moments when I wanted something different in the flavor department. I would want a wider variety of flavors like Lavender Lemonade, Peach Basil, and Honey Chamomille. Since I couldn't find those options I purchased ice pop molds and got to work whipping up a variety of pop flavors. I even made a few Poptails (Cocktails frozen into Ice Pops)! I began to share my Ice pops with friends and family and decided I wanted to turn this into a seasonal business for more people to enjoy. Up until now outside of friends and family I've made ice pops for a few small parties (Cocktail parties, garden parties, Birthday Parties) with great feedback that has left me feeling even more inspired to bring my ice pops to our beautiful city of Baltimore.
The next step was figuring out my mode of delivery. When I thought about how I would get around the various hilly neighborhoods of Baltimore I realized that just a cooler wasn't going to cut it. In order to get my pops from Mount Vernon to Charles Village or Mount Vernon to Fells Point or the Inner Harbor I would need a cart and transportation that could haul that cart. That's when it hit me: Why not a A TRICYCLE?!
A food vending tricycle with a dry ice box for Ice Pop storage would allow me to get around town and to various outdoor events while still keep my ice pops fresh for up to 12 hours! Also since it will be running on clean energy (My legs & dry ice) it would cut fuel costs and make my business environmentally friendly!
Now that I had that settled I knew I could focus on putting KarmaPop on the road. In order to do that I've got to get serious and get out of my home kitchen. To make KarmaPop an official business I need to invest in leasing a commercial kitchen full-time (not just for special events and orders), more pop molds, and professional equipment. Not to mention the headache of licensing and permits for the city. That is where my Kickstarter Fundraiser comes into play. The goal of my Kickstarter campaign is to raise funds for the KarmaPop Tricycle as well as other expenses (full-time commercial kitchen rent, dry ice, dairy and produce accounts, licensing, molds, blenders) essential to the business. The KarmaPop ice tricycle would be a green/eco-friendly way to bring sweet relief to city residents during the infamously hot and humid Baltimore summers with my ice pops!
This is where you guys come in! Your generous donations will help make KarmaPop a reality! By backing KarmaPop you can help bring the cool concept of food vending cycles to Baltimore and YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SAY YOUR BACKING HELPED CREATE TO THE VERY FIRST FOOD TRICYCLE IN BALTIMORE!

Risks and challenges
KarmaPop's biggest obstacle in the immediate future will be securing a new commercial kitchen space with ample freezer storage and getting all of the vendor licensing for the tricycle from the City of Baltimore. From there, I will be focused on establishing relationships with local businesses and the community so that KarmaPop is able to meet its neighbors needs and be easily accessible.
I believe that by starting simple with a tricycle, I will be able to avoid bigger obstacles or challenges. When it comes to vending a food product to the public, a tricycle has a more manageable overhead cost than a food truck or actual shop. Every new business will encounter some issues along the way, but I believe that by staying focused on operating within KarmaPop's means and growing slowly, I will be able to mitigate the major risk factors that are involved in starting a full fledged pop shop, or trying to get too big to quickly. There is always the possibility of being blindsided by issues that I don't foresee, and in those instances I believe that my passion for my business, along with the awesome support network I have at my disposal, will allow KarmaPop to become a successful fixture in the Baltimore food community!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
