Contemporary fusion musician creating a Video Album to wake people up. Volume I: bees
4th Stretch goal: Wow! A few hours to go and you are pulling this up! Here are a couple smaller things that will help the project and my life as a musician. The next increments of $50 will go to the following things: external hard drives for back-up, supplies for a good recording desk (yes, I will build!), pop filter and better quality mic cables.
3rd Stretch goal: REACHED! Thank you for helping reach the first two! The AKG C14 large diaphragm condenser mic ($400) is our next "reach object." Vocals will sound crystal clear with this upgraded vocal mic. This is a stretch but that would make the new goal $7,050.
2nd Stretch goal: REACHED! We could improve the quality of our project by purchasing a loud amplifier in order to hear the music while recording the video. We have a Roland CUBE in mind that is $300, without tax and Kickstarter fees. That would bring our new goal to $6,650!
1st Stretch goal: REACHED! With an additional $300 we are able to record live audio to use on the album with a Zoom H4N.
Sculptor Magdalena Abakanowicz once said, "Art does not [always] solve problems, but makes us aware of their existence."
I write thinking music; music that makes you reflect on your choices. I consistently strive to communicate a larger message rather than just entertain.
For this project, I am creating a Video Album with 6 music videos. The project will have a theme, Respect for all through empathy for a few, and will expose the research that I've done about the plight of the honey bee. I will put this research in the album's liner notes and bring awareness to the current bee situation as I see it in one special video.
A Video Album is quite a miraculous thing. It can transform a song into a visual story and helps the listener connect on a deeper level with the music. People have been inspired by the messages in my music and I believe that this project will reach an emotional connection while pushing the emphatic message of; Respect for all, inspired by empathy for a few. The few being honey bees.
The plight of the honey bee, known to some as Colony Collapse Disorder, is an indicator that some of our big choices, such as monoculture (loosely defined) and overuse of pesticides, that were made initially for the benefit of humans are now proving not to be as beneficial. We've developed an agricultural system that relies on the stressful transportation of honey bees from all over the world to pollinate many of our crops, like almonds in Central Valley, CA.
In parts of China, thousands of people are hand pollinating because their choices have led to less-than-ideal circumstances and a severe lack of insect pollination. We should strive to avoid reaching this point in the rest of the world, and to do so, we need to start being aware of our actions and their effect on our planet. Raising awareness to this issue will encourage people to think about their choices and how they'll affect the world as a whole, not just themselves.
My music does just this. It is about making people more aware of themselves, the environment and growing as a person that will take responsibility for their actions and choices. The plight of the bees is a perfect example of what can happen when we don't think about the larger impact of our daily selections. If we work together, this Video Album can inspire you to be a part of the bigger picture by helping to spread the message.
I'd like you to share as much in this project as we are. With your investment, I'll purchase the equipment that we need to make, produce, mix and master the project and mail you the final product. You can donate a wee bit of money, which still goes a long way, or you can support the project by purchasing one of the larger rewards.
Here is an example of a limited supply reward for $15 (these are examples of what we may do. They are pieces that can be hung outside in the garden or in a window for sun to shine through!):
Note: anything $5 and above will grant you exclusive access to a separate site revealing information, music and videos before we release them to the general public. I will also be documenting my continued honey bee research through a mix of blog posts, emails and videos. This is a great opportunity for you to watch the learning process of this project and leave comments to be a part of the community!
Please help me fund this project so that we shed some light on something that deserves attention.
Thank you and I'm looking forward to collaborating,
P.S. Our theme, Respect for All inspired by Empathy for a Few is borrowed from one of our favorite animal charities; AnimalsAsia(.org). Their predominant focus is to end bear bile farming. Check them out!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I've recorded and arranged my music since I first purchased a Panasonic hand recorder at age 12. It allows me to be very experimental as well as get the exact sound that I heard from the initial creation of the song. I've also co-created all of my own 70+ music videos. While I'm excited to take on the challenge of being a "one-woman show" again, I know that big dreams take a lot of hard work. With proper time management and with allotting enough time for rewards, I believe everything will be executed efficiently.
