Who is Kreator Hobbies?
Kreator Hobbies is a custom furniture company founded by CJ Kremp out of a small woodshop in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, just outside Denver, Colorado. CJ started Kreator with the simple idea that all hobbyists deserve quality, custom, & affordable areas to conduct their various hobbies in. He is a hobbyist himself, with a penchant for making phenomenal artisan furniture for others the world over! He's a craftsman, & wants to share his craft with everyone who shares his vision! Each of Kreator's products is painstakingly handmade from solid pieces of wood, sanded, stained, and all around finished to the perfection one would expect when looking for custom furniture.
Why are you doing a Kickstarter?
While we've had some great success at building completely custom projects for clients over the last couple years, we've discovered that there was a demand for individuals looking for modular hobby furniture that wasn't being met. We've also have been utilizing older woodworking equipment that needs to be upgraded to keep up with the increasing demand my products have garnered. Those things together provided an epiphany on how we can knock out the two proverbial birds with a single stone, & this line of furniture was born! The basic goal covers materials for rewards as well as a complete line of new equipment to replace the older used equipment we've received from family as we've pursued pour custom hobby furniture dream. Stretch goals will allow us to do more things, such as:
- Acquire a larger workshop with better warehouse space
- Hire more employees to produce furniture quicker & prevent a backlog long before it becomes an issue
- Complete the research & design on several "luxury" concepts to be unveiled within the next year or two rather than their current schedule of up to a decade from now
- Increase our operations & marketing budgets so we can streamline our website as well as improve shipping lanes for international customers
What is GamersTable?
GamersTable is a line of modular, custom finished tables for the tabletop gaming community which scales to your needs & is compatible with hundreds of other tabletop products that you may already own or plan to acquire in the future. Whether you are a boardgamer, wargamer, or roleplayer, all of our tables can be tailored to your favorite hobby!
All of these tables have been designed with moderate portability as well as easy storage in mind. Coming in 3 different sizes as well as 4 different heights out of 4 different kinds of wood & a multitude of finish option, you can be rest assured that your table will be as unique as you!
These tables can be combined to fit the space you have available to game in, whether it is in your home, at a friendly local gaming store, gaming group, or convention. All tables feature removable dice rails allowing you to connect them in any arrangement you desire to play on, and they also can be disassembled for easy storage under a bed or in a closet if gaming space is a premium for you. Finally, if you are interested in any of our padded fabric or acrylic add-on gaming surface inserts, they are all removable so if you play multiple tabletop gaming systems you can insert the one you need for your current game!
What about more permanent GamersTables?
That's the best part about these tables, they are forward & backward compatible! As we go through our gaming lives people come & go, we move into one place and out to another, we start at the kitchen table or coffee table, move to the basement or garage, sometimes are lucky enough to have a dedicated room, then make our way back again. This line of tables takes all of the "unknown" in life into account. In the future we will be offering more permanent GamersBases with shelves, drawers & cabinets. The fact that these tables are modular allows you to replace the legs with sturdier, more permanent foundations if and when you need them. In fact, if our goal is met, this will be the first set of stretch goals we will strive to unlock as outlined below!
So what are my options to build my custom table?
First step is to choose the size of the table you desire:
- GamersTable is our original design with legs standing at 36" high. It is intended for those who enjoy playing at typical kitchen table height, perfect for both standing or sitting if you have a diverse group who are more comfortable gaming in different ways.
- GamersTableLite is a closed-box, reversible variation of our standard design. It doesn't include legs as it was created for those who just want a gaming surface to throw over their current kitchen or coffee table & store out of the way when the game is over.
- GamersTableTyke is our standard design with legs standing at 12" high. It is intended for younger individuals just getting into table top games or for those who like to sit around on the floor while they game but want to keep the the game high enough that it doesn't get knocked around or stepped on.
- GamersTableMesa is our standard design with legs standing at 18" high. It is intended for those who enjoy playing at typical coffee table height, perfect for those who like to sit around on couches in their living or family rooms as they play.
- GamersTableCafe is our standard design with legs standing at 42" high. It is intended for those who like to play at typical bar height, perfect for those who like to stand & move around as they play. It has been very popular with gaming groups that meet up at cafes & pubs.
Second you want to decide your playing surface:
Third you get to choose which wood you would like your table to be made out of between:
Finally, you get to choose from any of the stains below:
PLEASE IGNORE EVERYTHING BELOW THIS SENTENCE AS IT IS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!!!!!!!!!!
he BoardGamersTable & CardGamersTable have a padded fabric gaming surface insert to protect your board & card games from the typical scuffing that occurs on traditional non-cushioned tables. It includes the option for modular border in either additional padded or stained wooden "tiles" as desired. The primary difference between the two ultimately comes down to the accessories you'd like to include, from our CardHolder to hold hands of cards, DiceTray for rolling dice in, and many other accessories specific to various board & card games.
The RolePlayersTable has a 1" hexagonal or square gridded surface with an acrylic overlay that can be utilized with both dry & wet erase markers. The overlay can be lifted up to slide maps & important notes underneath, & the grid can be scaled to your games desired size. The table also includes the option for a modular border of padded fabric or wooden stained "tiles" just like the aforementioned GamersTables, however most groups prefer to do a double border to accommodate a DiceTray & BeverageHolder insert for each player as well as give them a larger space to keep their player character sheets & sourcebooks on hand!
The WarGamersTable comes with your choice of several pretextured or prepainted (& flocked if desired) terrain boards or tiles. These tables are purposely built to accommodate the multitude of 3rd party terrain boards & tiles available, such as the manufacturers outlined in the image below:
What are my custom options for GamersTable?
Each table allows you to choose several features to have a table as unique to you as the games you play. First you will pick your table size from either a 3'x3', 3'x4' or 4'x4' frame. If you need a certain amount of space, all of these tables feature removable dice rails on all sides so you can combine them into the size you need. Have a weekly family of four game night & only need a single table? Snag a 4'x4'. Do the guys get together on Thursdays for poker while the ladies are out for ladies night, or Friday for some good old Friday Night Magic? Slap together a pair of 3'x4' & easily fit 8-10. Have a Pathfinder group who meets every other week for a long Saturday marathon of dungeon delving? Grab 4 3'x3' & seat 6 party members with a whole long side to be a devious gamemaster! Or perhaps you want to bring in everyone to your store for an epic Apocalypse game for Warhammer 40,000 on the legendary Blackstone Fortress? Snag 5 4'x4' & arrange them in a giant "X" so all the races in the sector can battle it out for control of the station on 4 different arms.
Next you get to choose your woods & finishes. For this Kickstarter you'll be able to choose from our Tier I selection of the following wood options:
There are pros & cons to these different materials. Some are lighter but less hardy. Others are sturdier but much less maneuverable. If you have questions about which best meet your needs we will guide you through the process to make sure you're getting the best option for you.
Next you will be able to choose your finishes. This includes the following stains:
If your GamersTable includes a padded fabric insert, we have a broad selection of materials & colors to choose from.
If you want a WarGamersTable, we can do almost any textured surface you want, from an Ash World to a Death World, a Desert Planet to a Red Planet, an Urban Landscape to an Icy Wasteland. If you would like a painted & flocked surface, we can do that as well, in any season that your heart desires. Finally, if you're a fan of space combat style games we even have an open space option with flecks of stars throughout the darkness.
We'll be continuing to add stretch goals throughout the campaign - your enthusiasm has been amazing, and we can't wait to expand the scope and options of the project! Thank you so much for being a part of it!
$15,000 - GamersBase:
GamersBase is a base that you can insert your GamersTable into to make it more sturdy, as well as house items under. The GamersBase also is the right height to snugly insert any DisplayCabinet in between the bottom of your GamersTable.
$20,000 - WallMount
WallMount is a bracket for your GamersTable that allows you to fold it out of the way when not in use. Similar to those used with large flat screen televisions, you can be rest assured that the kit will securely hold your table in place.
$25,000 - GamersCabinet
Looking for deeper storage space than the DisplayCabinets offer for wider terrain or larger boardgames? This is the solution for you! Essentially a cube with a shelf in the middle, it inserts between your GamersTable & GamersBase giving you plenty of space to hold larger terrain such as centerpieces or modular cities for close-quarter battles.
$30,000 - TileShelves
Do you enjoy utilizing terrain tiles such as the Realm of Battle ones by Citadel & Forgeworld, Battle Boards by Games & Gears, or Tablescapes by Secret Weapon Miniatures? This is the solution for you. Similar to the GamersCabinet, it inserts between your GamersTable & GamersBase but has multiple shelves, each with enough space between them to slide in a terrain tile.
$35,000 - GamerShelves
Do you love your collection of rulebooks? Maybe you have a bunch of boardgamers that need a place to stay? Want to show them off or keep them safe? These inserts are designed for you, with ample space to store all of your rulebooks so they're close at hand when a quick reference is needed!
$40,000 - GamersDoors
Do you NOT want to show off your terrain & models? Maybe you want to keep dust from accumulating on them? This will allow us to develop doors that will fit over any BookShelves, DisplayCabinet, GamersCabinet or TileShelves so you can make sure whatever you're storing is protected from the elements.
$45,000 - GamersDrawers
Some would like to have drawers instead of shelves. This will solve that & give us the opportunity to do half sized inserts for both GamersDrawers as well as all of the other inserts previously unlocked.
$50,000 - HobbyTable
Here we can begin knocking out the developments planned out for next year, the first of which is our HobbyTable. Designed for those who enjoy the modelling & painting aspect of the hobby more, you'll find yourself a drafters-like table designed specifically for the space & equipment you need & used when you sit down with your models or terrain.
$55,000 - PainterStation
This is a portable hobby station that you can pack up & take on the road with you, whether it's your friendly local gaming store, a convention, or a long flight or train ride. It has space to hold everything you need to model with, plus space for a compressor if you airbrush (although that may not be a good idea to use on the plane, train or automobile!)
$60,000 - CurioCabinet
Looking for something a little more high end for your collection? Maybe you collect dozens of armies, or just a single really large one? The CurioCabinet is a gargantuan piece of furniture to display such a collection with. Risks and challenges
As with any other product produced by a small company there are some potential challenges when it comes to delivery:
We've done our best to minimize this as far as possible, and we are always happy to refund pledges if for some totally unforeseen reason the product can't be delivered at all. We've also notified our material distributors so they are ready to deliver as soon as the Kickstarter ends!
The biggest challenge is in the delivery time for additional accessories resulting in possible stretch goals. We already have concept art for several options however, and most prototypes have already been commissioned to help us turn those into reality.
Most importantly, we have done thorough research into this Kickstarter. The planning for this began over the holiday season in 2012. We've analyzed costs of materials to fractions of a cent, calculated shipping from our shipping center to the furthest point in the continental United States, researched the closest thing we have to competitors and identified their largest deficits in production & delivery. Furthermore, we have combined over 30 years of experience in the tabletop gaming industry & nearly that many years experience in small business management. With regular updates as this Kickstarter moves along you can be ensured ultimate transparency in how & what your backings will be utilized for in expanding us to keep up with demand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
