We need your help to fund the production of 12 new miniature figures for tabletop RPGs. These 28mm miniatures represent our vision for 3 different races, the Phoradin (Forest Guardians), Chellon (Shellfolk), and Grimalkin (Catkin). We are introducing 4 new types for each of these three races. If we haven’t covered the race and class combo that you’re looking for, worry not, krakenships will continue creating miniatures to fill the gaps in the miniature world. We’re just kraken the surface!
Each miniature set includes one of each of the 4 unique miniatures of each specific race. We have included the concept art to help show what the models/minis will be like as you can see with our already modeled miniatures. We're still working on the models and will add them throughout the campaign as we complete more, but here's what we have so far!
krakenships Kickstarter Miniature Sets:
Original Phoradin Miniatures are here too
We're are also making our original Phoradin (Forest Guardian) miniatures available. We're taking this opportunity to utilize our fulfillment partners to make these available worldwide for those who were unable to purchase them outside the US.
Legendary Painted Kraken Reward:
For our Legendary Painted Kraken rewards, we're limiting each one to only one person! We will have our 4 miniature sets - Chellon, Grimalkin, New Phoradin, and Original Phoradin miniature sets - professionally cleaned up and painted for you! You can choose to have them painted like their concept art or customize them yourself! For these rewards, Crafters Forge will be painting the miniatures. Below, we have Forge Master Thom's painting of our Original Phoradin Miniature Set, only a taste of what you'll receive.
We Can Make The Minis!
Our previous miniatures have been the testing and verification that we know what we’re doing over here at krakenships. Our 25mm Bandit Gang miniature set and our 28mm Forest Guardian miniatures are currently available as our proof of concept. With your help, we will be able to make a lot more miniatures at a much faster rate. Our creation process and manufacturing of our miniatures is costly and prohibits us from making more than four at a time over several months. We’re able to make so many more in practically the same amount of time with the proper funding. We'll be working with the same manufacturer for these miniatures as we have with our previous minis so we already have a pretty good idea what to expect.
The funding required for creating our miniatures goes towards the artwork created in the concept stage, the 3d modeling of the miniatures based on our concept art, several prototypes to verify the miniatures look good, the actual manufacturing of the miniatures, and then finally to prepare them for sending out! We’ve been working on the design and concept stage for these miniatures for several months now. Only the modeling and manufacturing stand in our way, the latter of which cost a lot of time and money.
Each miniature is designed with care and attention to detail. Every element of each miniature has a purpose or reason behind it. Realistic or practical elements are used for most of our miniatures so their details make sense. We draw from real weapons, armor, fighting styles, and the practicality of real life based on historical elements to help enrich the level of detail of each miniature. And of course, we mix a good bit of fantasy with them!

We’re asking for $15,000 which will be used to cover and fund the following:
- Concept Art & Modeling - Roughly 2-3 weeks per mini.
Creating prototypes and samples to ensure the miniatures look good. All art and a few models have already been completed, as seen above.
- Making The Mini Molds - About 1-2 months/Very costly.
Creating the molds for the miniatures for plastic mold injection.
- Injecting/Creating The Miniatures - About 1-2 months.
- Fulfilling Orders - About 1-2 months.
Time varies based on order amount and location.
- Delays, Troubleshooting, & Stretch Goals - Time Varies.
Finally, correcting and addressing any issues throughout the process if any arise. There may also be added time for any added stretch goals (like more miniatures).
The most costly element on our process is creating the molds for the plastic injection of the miniatures. Once we have the molds created, all future miniatures made using the mold will good to go! This is the ultimate goal of the Kickstarter and we’d appreciate your support!
Sizing Our Miniatures
The sizing of our miniatures is very important to us. Here at krakenships, we use relative scaling instead of the actual size of the miniature. This is to say that every miniature will be the appropriate size of its real-world (inspired) self in comparison to the rest of our miniatures. For example, our Phoradin represent 7’7” tall creatures while our Chellon represent 6ft (close to the size of a human) which would make our Phoradin several millimeters taller than our Chellon miniatures, even though they’re both of the same 28mm scale. If you want the math, it’s explained here, else you can take a quick look at the size chart below!
Simply put, we have accurately sized miniatures to one another based on their real-world representations and are assigning a measurement based on the eyeline height of an average male in the US at 5'9" - this is what we base our 28mm scale on which is a 1:58 scale when at the miniature size. It's about scale, not actual height of the miniature.
Our Goal At krakenships
The goal here at krakenships is to help fill the gaps in the miniature market. The hard to find and elusive miniatures that you can never find are what we aim to design and make. We’re currently only working on player character miniatures, though you can use them however you please! We will slowly make our way into the monster and creature realm of miniatures. We have some extremely large projects coming up in the future, but we have to start somewhere! For now, please help us fill the range of miniatures that we can offer to the tabletop RPG community.
On a successful campaign, we will be very hard at work to make all this happen. You will be able to choose which miniature set/s you want once the campaign has ended when the survey is sent out. This will require everyone to make their selections, if your rewards tier requires it. Please do these asap so we can get these miniatures rolling! We will also send out the survey to gather your shipping address along with your reward tier choices. Please keep in mind that you can change your shipping address up until we are ready to actually ship your miniatures. Be sure to update your address if it changes! We will send out an email reminder a few days prior to shipping to ensure everything gets shipped to the proper addresses.
Please share this to help get the word out there so we can successfully reach our goal and get these miniatures made for you and the community!
We have a lot of work with these 12 miniatures, but if the campaign exceeds the funding goal, we'll add more stretch goals like more miniatures. Keep in mind that only certain reward tiers/choices will receive certain stretch goals.
We currently have one stretch goal - to add spell effects to the 3 of the 12 miniatures: Chellon Cleric, Chellon Wizard, and the Grimalkin Sorcerer. These will be done by altering and adding translucent plastic for the spell effects accordingly to give the minis an awesome look. Feast your eyes on the concept for these spells:
Spell Effects - $17,500 Stretch Goal:
The Chellon Cleric, Chellon Wizard, and Grimalkin Sorcerer will have add spell effects using transparent plastic for their spell effects. This stretch goal is added for the appropriate miniature sets, regardless of your pledge tier.
Elephas - $30,000 Stretch Goal:
We've decided to add another stretch goal - another set of 4 miniatures! We're introducing our next set of miniatures of an elephant race called the Elephas. We've only just begun on the concept art, but we'll be designing and creating an Elephas Bard, Cleric, Druid, and Ranger.
If the Elephas stretch goal is unlocked, everyone with the Kraken pledge tier and higher will receive the Elephas Miniature Set for free. Also, once the Kickstarter is over, we will allow anyone to choose the Elephas Miniature Set (if unlocked) as one of the sets for their pledge tier once we send out the backer survey.

We will be shipping world wide! All of the miniatures in this Kickstarter campaign will be available to anyone in the world. We are also able to provide Australia-friendly shipping, Canada-friendly shipping, EU-friendly shipping, and US-friendly shipping. Friendly shipping is to say that we will have your rewards shipped to you from within your country so that you will avoid paying customs, duties, and VAT related fees - which we will handle! All other countries may be subject to paying fees upon delivery, depending where you live.
Risks and challenges
From experience with already having made 8 miniatures, there are 2 potential risks:
1.) Manufacturing time due to delays and problems. We have allotted time for this, so there's a very low chance of this effecting the estimated delivery times. Also, we are working with the manufacturers we have made all of our existing miniatures with, so we know what to expect!
2.) Shipping can be quit a logistical nightmare. We're partnering up with an awesome fulfillment company to handle these hardships to further ensure nothing goes wrong.
