No, these no-holes, track style belts where designed in Asia about 20 years ago. Most of them use a bulky magnetic system that’s prone to sticking and breakage. Not only that but when we first saw the system, we personally didn’t care for it’s bulky design. We felt it could be a lot better, so we stripped the mechanism out and set out to redesigned it in 2012. Our patented buckle uses a sleek, spring-loaded system that’s very reliable, won’t break easily and is nice to look at. So that’s why our competitors’ buckles aren’t patented and Kore currently holds 6 patents. Just because you saw a company on Shark Tank doesn't mean they invented it. You're not that naive, are you ? Thanks.Last updated:
There are a lot of subtle, and not so subtle, differences that make our Kore track belts the BEST for FIT, QUALITY, DURABILITY, DESIGN and WARRANTY. Here are a few points in no particular order >
1. Our Patented belt buckles use a spring-loaded system that's very reliable, durable and doesn't stick. Most other ratchet belts use a magnetic system that is prone to breakage and frequently sticks. The magnetic system has also been labeled as "bulky" and "gimmicky". It is not patented and been made for about 20 years in Asia. When we first saw the magnetic style buckle back in 2012 and tested it out - it broke while wearing it. We actually had several break on us, so we quickly decided against using that design. We constructed our own, superior mechanism in our California studio in 2013.
2. These belts are Full-Grain leather, the BEST QUALITY, that actually improves with age. Almost all of the other ratchet style belt companies use a cheap bonded style leather (that's glued pieces covered with a plastic film). This is how they are able to sell them so cheap, because the leather wears badly.
3. We use a 10" track that provides over 40+ adjustment positions. Every other ratchet belt company uses a 7" track. That means Kore belts are over 120% more adjustable than other ratchet belts, and 800% more adjustable than traditional 5 hole belts.
4. These buckle bodies are made with grade 1 titanium, one of the lightest, strongest metals known to man. Other companies only use cheap alloys.
5. Most of our Kore buckles easily open beer and soda bottle tops.
6. Many of our Kore buckle models feature open style, unique buckle faces. They are all designed at our studio in San Diego, California. Many other brands only feature solid buckle faces.
7. All of our products carry a 30 day Full Money-Back Guarantee and a 1 Year Warranty against defects, premature breakage or wear.
8. We're a USA company and quick to respond to questions, or problems. Try returning a broken belt to China.

The Kore Tek buckle frames are constructed of 2mm thick grade 1 titanium. It's one of the best metals known to man (light and strong) and also very expensive. Titanium is a FAR more expensive material than zinc alloys used for most ratchet buckles. For example, most alloy buckles cost less than $5 to make, while our titanium buckles cost many more times that. Additionally our belts are Full-Grain leather, the best and most expensive variety of leather. Full-grain actually improves with age. Most other track belt makers use a lesser variety of leather. Some even go so far as to say Italian leather but don't state the grade of leather. So you have assume that is is not full-grain. If it was they would say so. Many are bonded leather (if you want to call it leather), the cheapest grade of leather (not usually 50% leather contents). Its actually scraps of leather and other materials pressed thru a machine that glues them together and then coats them with plastic, grain like texture.
Once the Kore Tek Belt KS campaign is over and shipped to backers - we will be selling these Titanium buckles and belts on our Kore Essentials website for $129. That is what this buckle and belt should be priced at, based on the high material costs and using conservative margins.
So if a low price is more important to you than in quality - we would recommend choosing another brand of ratchet belt. Quality is something our Kore customers care about greatly, as do we, and that's why its part of our culture at Kore. But we also understand that not everyone feels the same way. ThanksLast updated:
We are charging exactly what the shipping rates actually are, based on weight. We are not making any money from the shipping costs.
With International shipments (outside the USA) we will be listing the contents for customs as a "Gift" with $0 value, or in some countries where it warrants a value. we will use a greatly reduced amount like $10 or $20.Last updated:
Most likely we will have a stretch goal but at this point it's too early and we have not determined what that will be.
We will most likely offer add-ons (the ability to buy an extra buckle or belt separately, for example) after the campaign is over when you get your survey to fill out.
Can I buy any of your current fashion buckles or belts from the website and add them to this after the project is over ?
No. Sorry but when it comes to fulfilling rewards and shipping it takes a lot of extra coordination and a temporary workforce to help to get it done in a timely manner. We discovered from our past 7 KS projects that trying to make special exceptions to individuals, or include existing products, makes the process much more difficult. We made too many mistakes and found ourselves having to reship products that were forgotten, at a big expense to us. ThanksLast updated:
We've been tanning leather belts with our factory for 5 years and along the way we tested both vegetable and chrome methods. What we found is that the Chrome tanned belts are far more durable. Chrome tanned leather does not fade over the years, loose it's luster or scratch easily. In the 5 years we've been selling belts (well over 100,000), we've never had a belt fade, rarely ever scratches and no reported reactions to the process. Unfortunately when we tested out vegetable tanning, although more eco friendly, the belts faded fairly quickly, lost their luster and scratched easily. When you vegetable tan it's recommended that you plastic coat your belts to prevent the scratching. Plastic coating full-grain leather never looks good. So Chrome tanning is the only real option for us when you're working with the best grade of leather - full-grain.
Other belt companies that use vegetable tanning are most likely using bonded leather, the lowest grade of leather. The bonded leather process utilizes scraps of leather and other man-made materials (not eco friendly by the way), fed thru a machine that presses and glues them together (bonding them), then coats the belt with a plastic film (not eco friendly either), to resemble a realistic cowhide grain look. It's important to note that many times these bonded belts have very little actual leather and a greater percentage of man-made synthetic materials, all of which are NOT eco friendly when produced. To get to the truth in this case, you have to look deeper at the big picture. Thanks.Last updated:
The primary buckle bodies are 2 mm thick, grade 1 titanium and have a top and bottom as well. The buckle faces are approximately 4.3 cm x 6 cm in size and 1.5 cm thick or tall. The other 2 buckle parts (belt receptacle with the teeth and caliper with spring mechanism) are a high-grade zinc alloy.Last updated:
