I know it's hard to believe, but the Pink Piranha record came out almost 2 years ago! For those of you who've been following me, it's been a pretty amazing 20 months...I've toured Europe (twice), I've done two coast-to-coast US tours, my song Forbidden Fruit appeared in a TV show, and another song - If I Prove False - was in rotation on Sirius XM's The Coffeehouse for almost 5 months. I sang a (hilarious) national TV commercial, I did some support dates for Chris Isaak, and last but not least, my new book - the book that got made because of you guys - got picked up and is being formally released by Turner Publishing this December. So amazing. When I close my eyes, it doesn't seem real.
Ok, I love the last record I made. But this time around, I want to do something different. No big production tracks. No layered vocal overdubs. I want to make a record that's more like what I do live. I've played more than 300 shows since my last album came out - most of them solo - and I want to make an album that's closer to what I do live. An album that's more about the way I write, the way I sing, the way I bend the guitar through the chord changes.
Did you watch the video?
I've been living in Nashville for almost 9 years now and the truth is that I totally love it - love the buzz of the city, love the level of talent, the constant pressure to make something that stands out. Bring it.
BUT, I've been living in the thick of the chase for almost a decade, and, well, it can make you weird. I wonder sometimes if it's made me weird. You see friends get famous, other friends kind of drift away...the competition is intense. People can tend to focus on commercial success over everything else. And you can get sucked up into that. A lot of people do.
But that's not why I got into this. got into it because I love music. The mystery of it, the emotional truth that runs through it like a silver thread. It's spiritual, you know?
So. Here were are. I have 20 songs I haven't yet officially released. The plan is unorthodox. I'm going to fly out to Idaho, to my hometown Twin Falls, and record the essence of these songs - the guitar (or ukulele or piano) and vocal. Then I'm flying back to Nashville to finish the album, to record just enough to fill it out. And no more. I'm not sure how many songs will make the final album, but at least 10 and probably more.
Thousand Springs is going to be the best record I've ever made, because it's going to be the one that sounds most like me. No fluff, no cop out. Nothing unnecessary.
What you can do:
Check out the "THANK YOU PACKAGES" & pick your favorite! --> Choose from signed copies of the new CD or VINYL, T-SHIRT, an ADVANCED COPY OF MEDIUM HERO (you get it a full month before the rest of the world!), skype sessions, private concerts, PERSONALIZED STORIES, limited edition packages and more.
HELP SPREAD THE WORD through Facebook, Twitter, blogs, email, texts, Pinterest... Your word and enthusiasm will be hugely helpful in making this project possible!
Every pledge is truly instrumental in helping me get to my goal of $18,900. No pledge is too small! You probably already know this, but Kickstarter has an all-or-nothing model, which means that if you pledge and at the end of the campaign I don't reach my goal, then no one's card is charged...but let's not even go there, I know we can do this!
I know it sounds like a ton of money (It's a ton of money to me!) but the 18,900 is the bare minimum I need to pay for ALL the stuff that goes into making an album - paying the producer, musicians, mixing, studio time, then designing the artwork and manufacturing the CD and VINYL. Plus printing up all the T-SHIRTS! A lot goes into this!
- If we exceed the goal then I can do even more awesome things - like bring someone out on tour with me (which I would LOVE), bring some of the musicians out to Idaho with me for the initial recording session, make new videos like the one I did for Forbidden Fruit..a little $ goes a long way! The sky is the limit! (Yes, I am wearing a cape as I write this).
A couple things. I tried to think of as many combinations as possible for the rewards stuff, but if there's a combo you want that I don't have, just message me and I'll create it for you!
Also, the official version of my book Medium Hero won't be available to the general public until December 1st, but anyone who buys it here, gets his/her copy Nov 3rd, A FULL MONTH EARLY. Don't you feel special? I want you to feel special.
Here's the price breakdown, so you know I'm not taking your money to the casino.

Risks and challenges
This is my 7th album and my second Kickstarter project, so I feel like I am capable of making good on my promises. Even still, with even the most carefully planned project, things could go awry. I could get killed in a plane crash. I don't know why I thought of that first, I have some kind of deviant fascination with plane crashes. Or maybe no one will want to work with me! Or maybe I will forget how to play the guitar! Or I could contract a terminal illness and be dead by Christmas! Ok this is getting ugly. I'm not usually one to dwell on what could go wrong. Kickstarter is making me do it.
The point is, I'm setting out to make a great record and that's exactly what I'm going to do. This is gonna be my best adventure yet. Which is saying something.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
