New Strech Goal Unlocked!

Three new bandit mini sculpts have been added to every copy of Western Legends. We're adding the Bandido, Horse Thief, and Gambler (replacing one Robber, one Desperado, and one Fugitive), giving you six unique bandits on the board.

A Look at the Bandit Sculpts

A word from our President, Travis R. Chance

Making a game is a tricky thing. You can spend months of your life, years even, tick every box, turn over every stone, but discover something once the doors swing open to the public. When we set out to have individual bandit sculpts, we saw no need for a reason beyond “MINIS!!!” However, some have expressed a desire for an ostensible reason as well.

No stranger to Kickstarter, I always (and I mean always) endeavor to be transparent and stay the course on what I know to be right and will keep us on time. Backers have lots of cool ideas, but often they are unrealistic with costs and timelines. But this time, I stopped, I thought and had a “eureka” moment that inspired me to put together something that I know the backers will enjoy.

Many times throughout this campaign, I had said there would be no difference in the bandit minis regarding play. I am now happy to retract that statement to share with you a new rules variant with components available in the Fistful of Extras expansion backers have been building: bandit cards!!!

For players that want their bandits to have some more personality, these 6 cards add a simple yet dynamic option for Western Legends. We have six different bandit sculpts, each with a different feeling. When playing with the bandit card variant, players that enter a bandit’s space will now draw a card, which slightly modifies the fight based on which bandit it is. The may be a little harder to beat. They may offer an additional reward if defeated. And they might just have an additional penalty if they manage to edge you out in the fight.

This variant will include 6 cards and 6 stickers, which are applied to the bottom of the base. The sticker denotes the name and number of the bandit, which ties to the card. For example, the Gambler bandit is always 1 on each bandit card - and should be stickered thusly.

Each bandit has two slightly iterated effects, three specific effects, and a quote - which is effectively “nothing happens” with some added theme. For example, the Horse Thief, you guessed it, might steal your mount! The Desperado is deadly and focuses on wounds. The Robber loves cash. The Bandido has a penchant for gold nuggets and story cards. The Fugitive has a bounty worth LP--if you can catch her. And the Gambler, well, he likes cards and rolling (prospecting) dice.

After some aggressive testing, we are happy to share this variant with our backers. And while some might see this as an invitation for more quick additions to the game, alas, it will be the last one we can make for this campaign. Nonetheless, we wanted to share this as a special thank you for your support and enthusiasm on Kolossal’s first of many games. The final 48 hours are upon us, so be sure to hoot, holler, and share our campaign so we can have a legendary finish!

A New Stretch Goal Revealed

Having knocked down the bandit sculpts goal, next in line to be unlocked are the two Joker cards when we reach $450k.

At $475k, we're going to add four additional cattle tokens to the game. We'll talk a bit more about these once they've been unlocked.

BGG Threads and Images to Thumb and Comment on

As we enter the final 48 hours of the campaign, it's more important than ever to get as many eyes on Western Legends as possible. The best way to do so is to keep the game climbing the Hotness on BGG. Your thumbs and comments on the following images and forum posts will go a long way to making that happen.

@Bethlemos - up until now, the bandits were just NPC minis that were out there for people to fight and get points. They randomly spawn at the spawn points when cards tell you to put them out. They don't move at all.

None of that changes. Now, you have an optional deck of cards that gives a little bit of extra flavor around whether or not you win your fight with them. Because they spawn randomly, you don't know where they will pop up, and since there are a bunch of different card results with them you may lose and nothing happens, or may lose and they steal your horse, etc.

Excellent update. Well done, Kolossal...well done. I have been thoroughly impressed by Kolossal throughout this campaign - both in terms of the quality of the game itself and the team's responsiveness both here and on BGG. I can't wait until August and into the future to see what else Kolossal has in store - both in terms of other games and expanding the already outstanding "Western Legends".

fantastic, Travis. Well done, and thank you! More quality for an already rich game.

One question, will there be pictures in the rules identifying which mini is which outlaw? The horse thief is obvious, but the others less so. My obsessive nature wants to be sure I get the right sticker on the right mini! :-)

Love the stretch-goals, always great additions to a most anticipated game :)

Excellent SG. Love the bandit cards too.

I have a question: I'm quite uninformed - so how has the game been played until now regarding bandits?
Do we have two options now for how we treat bandits or is it a replacement?

When a story card tells us to repopulate the bandit camps, how do we decide which figure goes where?
For example, if I am just moseying along without a horse, I'd be happy if the horse thief popped up nearby - less risky for me to go after.

Also still interested in a extra set of Bandits as a add on.

Humm, I wonder if those extra cattle tokens might have some new effects other than simply LP.

Also be cool if one side of the nugget die was Bandit attack.

@Kevin - in the way used either would be correct. When the person is unknown "that" is actually the 'more' correct. imho

      Fun stuff.

      A quick suggestion: Go with “A player who defeats ... .” “A play who loses ... .”

It took me a while to read pdf rules but since I did it, I backed without hesitation. Can’t wait to see the campaign finish and then seat back and relax until delivery !
