ABOUT OUR ALBUM
Kolm materialized in the city of Los Angeles with the idea to create music with no limits in sound and art exploration; traversing across genres to find a unique voice with which to take ourselves and our listeners on a musical journey.
The outcome was a group of songs that explored different states of the personal and collective shadow or unconscious aspects of our personalities. Through our personal journeys we have come to realize that facing inward into our darkness in an inescapable path we must take if we want to reach the light or truth.
Suitably, this album will be titled 'Umbra'. The umbra is the fully shaded region of a shadow and is usually referred to when the earth or moon are experiencing the total phase of an eclipse.
We tell our story audibly through a blend of surreal atmospherics, heavy and grooving bass lines, layered guitars, hypnotic drums and percussions adhered by melodic vocal patterns and harmonies. We tell our story visually by conspiring with artists. As a band, we value collaboration with artists we admire. For the album we enlisted artists Daniel Martin Diaz and Stephanie Inagaki to bring their individual visions to further articulate our musical ideas and concepts; adding a deeper and richer dimension to the album.
Years ago we tracked a three song demo EP where we established our sound. Now we aim to create a polished version of our vision.
On the end of 2017 we released a video cover of Stranger Thing's main theme song. This can give you an idea of our sound.
WHAT ARE YOU FUNDING?
As far as our progress goes, we've already done the hard parts. The songs have been written and tracked, song titles picked, concepts decided and album artwork directed. Your funding will contribute to our final production stages which will include mixing, mastering, artwork, CD duplication, vinyl pressing, packaging and distribution. Not to mention that it will be supporting an independent economy through a virtuous cycle that contributes to the crafts of artists, engineers, printers, and small businesses that we are working with for this project.
By eliminating the middlemen, in our case corporate record labels, we're putting artistic expression, ownership and accountability back in the hands of the actual artists.
Below is a breakdown of where your money will be allocated to:

WHO WE ARE
The band is Giorg Yela (Guitars/Vocals/Electronics), Tas Limur (Bass) and Mikal Baker (Drums/Electronics).
It was very obvious to us early on that our aural transmutations were worth pursuing. And since the early stages of our friendship and music making adventures, we came to realize a shared interest in not just eclectic, seemingly disparate genres of music (ranging anywhere from progressive rock and jazz to electronic and world ethnic styles), but also a love of visual art and its capacity to be woven with music to create something moving and unique. For live shows visionary and CGI artist, Abhi Thati, contributes his visuals through projections that go hand in hand with our musical performance.
Other shared interests that relate to our creation process is the study of geometric symbolism and how it reflects in nature's re-occurring patterns and cycles as well as the collective unconscious and its effects on thought processes and dream states. As a band we have desired to express ourselves and immerse our listeners on a journey with these ideas through rhythmic and melodic compositions.
Tas Limur being a fine art photographer and Giorg Yela an Art Director have given the band the advantage of being self-sufficient in terms of creating designs and imagery to be used in the band's content for the website, social, merchandise, and video. And also to pursue other creative projects such as curating art/music shows, music videos and various other art projects.
Kolm has performed at various shows throughout Los Angeles and Southern California since 2010; released a self titled EP in 2011; and released a video performance of the 'Stranger Things' theme song in October 2017. And now in 2018 we are finally ready to release our first full length album!
Risks and challenges
The album is near ready but to get into production and into your ears we have to hit our goal of $6,500. Our challenge is to keep our fans engaged in the campaign and to get that attention of contributors who are not familiar with our music. If we do not reach our goal, all of the money will be returned to our backers. Every dollar and share counts for this campaign!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
