Frequently Asked Questions
With the upcoming release of the stand-alone expansion, Aeon’s End: War Eternal, Indie Boards and Cards has made several significant improvements to the aesthetics of the entire Aeon’s End series.
The changes that we are making include a bolder, more visually appealing card layout for the character spell, gem, and relic as well as the nemesis cards. This new design remains extremely functional while better showcasing the fantastic illustrations found in the first edition. Likewise, changes are being made to the graphic design of the character mats. The intent of these changes is to present information more clearly while enhancing the table presence.
We are also making changes to the Aeon’s End and Aeon’s End: War Eternal boxes (shallower) and inserts (tabbed channels to store player/nemesis mats) that will make these boxes take up less shelf space while being more functional.
We will be offering an “Update Pack” that includes all the updated cards and player mats from Aeon’s End, The Depths, and The Nameless. We are not changing card backs, so those who prefer to not update their cards may continue to enjoy their existing games and expansions with new expansion materials across the different editions without using the Update Pack.
Our goal is to accommodate as many people who would like to make the update as possible. The most efficient way to get the Update Pack will be by backing the War Eternal Kickstarter project (at a reward level that receives War Eternal), which is live now. And we want to make sure that those that back the War Eternal project and backed our first Aeon’s End Kickstarter project can get the Update Pack without any additional costs or hassles.
If you backed Aeon’s End, and you back War Eternal: You will automatically be sent the Update Pack (for Aeon’s End, Depths & Nameless) with your War Eternal rewards for no extra charge.
If you pre-ordered Aeon's End from the apg.com store, and you back War Eternal: You will automatically be sent the Update Pack (for Aeon’s End, Depths & Nameless) with your War Eternal rewards for no extra charge.
-If you back War Eternal, and you purchased Aeon’s End, Depths and/or Nameless elsewhere: You will be able to get the Update Pack for what you’ve already purchased by adding $10 to your pledge amount (includes shipping costs worldwide). We will require photographic proof of purchase (a picture of your Kickstarter username on post-it note attached to the game box and/or nemesis mats). Your Update Pack will include cards and Player Mats for Aeon’s End and the expansions you’ve purchased.
-A limited number of Update Packs will also be available directly from Indie Boards and Cards in the late fall of 2017. Those update packs will be $10 plus shipping & handling, and will require photographic proof of purchase.
We are not making these changes without carefully considering the impact to our customers and the stores that carry our products. Aeon’s End has garnered a strong base of loyal fans with tremendously strong reviews and ratings. By making these changes now, we are strengthening the long-term viability of the game, which will ensure long term support and new content.

Why hasn’t the War Eternal Rulebook been posted? What rules have been updated from the first printing? What other changes have been made from the first printing?
No functional changes have been made to the original Aeon's End content.
We are working on making the War Eternal rulebook, and will post when it is ready. Note these rules will be the same as first printing of Aeon’s End, with changes to characters, cards and nemesis used as examples.
Outside of the change in graphic design, there are no changes to the player cards, nemesis cards, character mats and/or nemesis mats.Last updated:
Is there just one Update Pack with all of the content, or will I only receive updated components for what I already own?
There will be four different versions of the Update Pack – depending on which of the original releases and expansions you’ve purchased:
Aeons End – for people that bought just the base game.
Aeons End & Nameless – for people that bought the base game & nameless expansion, or backed at the apprentice level.
Aeons End & Depths – for people that bought the base game & depths expansion.
Aeon’s End, Depths & Nameless - for people that bought the base game & both expansions, or backed at breach mage level. This is also available for backers at the apprentice level that bought Depths expansion.
Your Update Pack will include ALL cards and character mats from what you’ve purchased game, including all player and nemesis cards. The three promo nemesis cards from the first Kickstarter will also be included in all the rewards for War Eternal.Last updated:
If I back at the Voidwalker ($130) level, do I need the Update Pack? If I back one at one of the levels to get Depths or Nameless expansions, will those have the latest graphics?
All the content being sent as rewards for this project will feature the new graphic design.
Backers at the $130 level do not need to add $10 for the update pack, as their content will already have the new layout.
All the expansions sent as part of the $80 and $95 pledge levels will have the new layout. Backers at these levels can choose to add $10 to receive the Update Pack, and will receive cards and character mats for the games & expansions they have purchased.Last updated:
We will collect this as part of the kickstarter survey sent after the project is completed.
We will ask that you 1) take a picture of your Kickstarter username on post-it note attached to the game box and/or nemesis mats, 2) upload that image to a free fileservice and 3) include the link to your image in the project survey.
We will also ask which Update Pack contents you want, and get back to you if the image you sent doesn't support the content you've requested. We will provide links to free image services if you don't have one already.Last updated:
Unfortunately we can't offer individual selections of items - or we could, it would just cost significantly more to give you only what you wanted then to give you all the contents that are included.
We do in fact have more card dividers (as well as many other cards, upgrades, etc) planned as stretch goals. Stay tuned for more updates!Last updated:
Kickstarter assigns you a unique user ID that doesn't change when you change your username or email address. We will use your use this ID to track previous backers.
We will also ask if you backed the last kickstarter - if we can't find you, we will reach out to you and verify.Last updated:
Yes. Just add $20 for each additional copy. You will have an opportunity to remind us in your survey.Last updated:
The component quality of Aeon's End was lacking in a couple of places. We are working hand-in-hand with the factory to make sure that these issues are addressed. We've expressed concern with them and they will work on getting the cards must to be aligned better, the dials thicker & tighter, the box thicker, the breaches upgraded to tokens and using matte finish on the box and tokens.
The new box insert has a place for the player & nemesis mats to lie flat, during shipment and storage that will help avoid damage. Additionally the new graphic design will show less wear and chipping - the black borders of the original cards really accentuated slight alignment errors and corner chipping.Last updated:
Are the Nemesis mats in Aeon's End, Depths & Nameless expansions being upgraded to a new template? Are the Nemesis mats included in the Update Pack?
No, we are not going to be updating the graphic layouts of the Nemesis mats for the revised editions of Aeons End, the Depths and/or the Nameless expansions. The Nemesis represent a different era in the history of Gravehold of the differences in art design are reflective of this different period of time. Any future waves of Aeon's End release may also see us do a different graphic design for the nemesis in that wave - or we may reuse the graphic design from wave 1 or wave 2.
No, there will not be any Nemesis mats in any of the Update Packs. When evaluating the risks and benefits of making such sweeping changes to the graphic design of Aeon's End, we made some difficult decisions on what was included, how the update would be distributed and at what cost. The final result was that we made a conscience decision that the Update Packs did not include everything needed to play the game, nor were we going to change the Nemesis mats in revised editions of existing games & expansions. Looking at the components, the Nemesis mats are the only component that is used in isolation (there is never more than one Nemesis mat in play at a time), and therefore players would never have to deal with a mix of old and new formats at the same time. The much more numerous player cards, nemesis cards and player mats are all designed to be mixed & matched between sets and we wanted players to be able to have a single visual design between these elements.Last updated:
What is different about the 2nd printing of Aeon's End & expansions? Are the Player mats, Player cards, and Nemesis cards in Aeon's End, Depths & Nameless expansions being upgraded to a new template? Are the Nemesis mats included in the Update Pack?
The main differences will be the box size (which will be the same as the War Eternal box, same in all dimensions but 3/4" shallower), the insert (same as War Eternal - with a cut out area to store the player & Nemesis mats), the component quality issues addressed above and new graphic design for player mats, player & nemesis cards. We are also looking at, but have not finalized making slight changes to the token sheets.
The revised editions of Aeon's End, Depths and Nameless expansions will be in retail in late August, just after the planned shipping for this project.
Yes, we are updating the Player mats and all the cards in future printings of the existing game and expansions. All the content being sent as rewards for this project will feature the new graphic design - Backers at the $130 level will get all the game content with the new layout. All the expansions sent as part of the $80 and $95 pledge levels will have the new layout.
Yes, the Update Pack will include the new cards and Character mats for the items you've purchased. If we do update the tokens, those updates will not be part of the Update Pack as you will get a full set of new tokens in your copy of War Eternal.Last updated:
Can I get the Voidwalker ($130) pledge level with an Update Pack? Can I get more than one Update Pack?
Yes, you will be able to get an Update Pack, with the same restrictions & requirements (ie, $10 payment, photographic proof of purchase) with the Voidwalker pledge.
No, only one Update Pack per pledge. The exception to this is backers that had multiple copies in the first Aeon's End Kickstarter.Last updated:

We do plan on having all the rewards that are available via this kickstarter at both of these events. By all - we mean all. If it is something that we are offering via this project, we plan to have it at GenCon & Essen. That includes the Update Packs - which we will require photographic proof of purchase (have an image with your name & the games you have bought) and we will charge $10 for your Update Pack at GenCon & Essen (even if you were a backer of the Aeon's End kickstarter).
Please read the "Release Timing" section on the main project page. That has details about signing up for email lists - those email lists is how you will be able to reserve copies for pick up at these two shows.
Note - these are reservations only. We do not do pre-paid reservations, we tried that several times and its not something that we will do again. Also there is no guarantee that we will have copies of any games, or enough to handle all reservations. There are just too many logistical challenges to guarantee that everything will work, and the decisions about numbers of games being sent to these events are made months before the events happen. Finally - reservations are only for the first day of these shows, we know that not everyone can be at the shows but we can't hold games - again, we've tried this in the past several times and won't be doing so in the future.
There are a lot of extra conditions (and potentially costs) added to getting these rewards as a GenCon or Essen pickup - having years of experience and knowing all the things that can go wrong when needing to get lots of games to a specific place by a specific time makes us cautious to promise that things will happen exactly as planned. Pledging to this project may be the better choice for you.Last updated:
It depends on what level you pledge for. The answer is definitely yes for the $95 & $130 pledge levels - at those levels you will get all the Stretch Goals that were part of the first kickstarter project.
Most of the Stretch Goals from the first Aeon's End project were released as Nameless Expansion. You can get the Nameless expansion as an option in the $80 pledge level - you will get the Nameless expansion in the $95 & $130 pledge levels. There were also six cards that were part of the rewards for the first kickstarter project that were not released into retail. These were three promo Nemesis cards and three market set-up cards. Those six cards will be part of the Kickstarter Exclusive cards that will be sent in all reward packages for this project.
There have also been two sets of promo card(s) that we've sent out as part of Man vs Meeple kickstarter and for upcoming International TableTop Day. Those promos were one-offs, and will not (and cannot) be re-released as rewards for this project.Last updated:
The majority of the stretch goal content from the first Aeon's End campaign was release as an expansion called The Nameless. If you backed the first campaign, you received this content packaged inside of your Aeon's End game box.
There were six promo cards not included in The Nameless or Aeon's End. They are being included for all backers.Last updated:
First – it is important that everyone knows that we are not using a pledge manager. That means you’ll have to add to your pledge amount for all the add-ons that you want, before the project is completed at 10pm pacific, April 20th. To change you pledge amount, click the “Manage your Pledge” button on the top of this page.
Then click “Change your Pledge”, enter the new pledge amount and click “Continue”. The tricky part is that you’ll need to calculate the total pledge amount on your own (see details on the campaign page) and won’t get an immediate confirmation of what you have added. This has to be done before the project ends (10pm pacific, Thursday April 20th). We will get all the details we need from you when we send the project surveys out, that will be done the week of April 24th (we need to get the information quickly in order to send the right number of games and add-ons to their fulfillment centers).
Extra copies of rewards
We know that some backers want more than one copy of a reward level. To do this, you will need to 1) pledge at the highest level from which you want the rewards, and 2) add to your pledge amount based on the chart below. The numbers in the two leftmost columns in chart below are inclusive of shipping (ie, you don’t have to add shipping cost for each item, just the first which Kickstarter does automatically).Last updated:
