Thanks Jonny G, that means a lot. We started this whole journey because we wanted other families to experience the same transformation we did. We're now in the process of going commercial.

If you're feeling particularly keen, you could write us a review on Amazon - just repeat what you wrote, but maybe mention you bought it on Kickstarter before it was even on Amazon. No pressure, but it would help us out.…#

      Thanks for the kind words.

Just to say BIG THANKS for the KoalaSafe. It has transformed how we the kids use the internet in the home. Thanks for being so responsive on the forums and great seeing all the new update releases which make the product really easy to use. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the update guys :)

    11. Steven Pack Creator on April 19, 2015

@Mandeep - we do not currently offer a whitelisting based approach. By default when the internet is off no local network access is allowed. We could make that a setting post kickstarter.

    12. mss on April 19, 2015

      Hi Steven,
Can we create profiles which allows us to whitelist certain sites and block everything else? Also can local network devices like printers, NAS etc be accessed when time restrictions are on?

    13. Jason Sheedy on April 18, 2015

      Hi guys,
Congrats on getting the project through. I'm a parent of 3 small kids and very passionate about the issues around online parental controls. Are you planning to release an Android app as part of the initial release? If not are you planning to allow 3rd party apps to integrate with the device api's? It would be nice to build some kind of open source ecosystem around this product.

Looking forward to getting my Koala!!

    14. Rafael G on April 18, 2015

Excellent. Thanks for the quick reply.

    15. Steven Pack Creator on April 18, 2015

@Rafael - if your modem and wireless router are seperate devices, you could put the KoalaSafe between them (using the Ethernet ports) and only use the existing wifi network. (You can disable the koala wifi)

    16. Rafael G on April 18, 2015

Must the devices be connected to the KoalaSafe WiFi directly in order to monitor Internet use? Or since the KoalaSafe is between cable modem and existing wireless router, can KoalaSafe still monitor those devices that are connected to the existing wireless router?

Thrilled to hear that such a valuable enterprise has made its goal. Thank you lads for your dedicated cause. Our kids deserve to learn and grow uncontaminated by someone else's idea of how that should be dominated or directed. Cheers, Daphni

Woohoo! Can't wait to help a few of my friends with their young families balance screen time with non-digital play time. Congrats guys, great product idea.

    19. Steven Pack Creator on April 17, 2015

Thanks all! So exciting to hit the goal! We'll post updates as we go, but as you can imagine, Koala Labs just went into overdrive and will stay that way until we ship.

Easier parenting and healthier kids are on the way!

    33. Steven Pack Creator on April 15, 2015

@Mandeep - The monitoring aspect of the product is handled in the cloud, where we aggregate anonymized traffic data. This feature can be turned off. We haven't decided how long to retain the data, but will probably make that user selectable.

Couple of questions regarding the device? How many days of traffic logs is stored in the device? Is any of that info sent to any cloud service? Also what NICs used by the device?

Fingers crossed this gets across the line.. Agree with Alex the removal of 'minecraft' reference is a good idea. This device doesn't necessarily have to be 'all about kids'.. I can imagine cafe's,libraries all sorts of small businesses could benefit from a KoalaSafe as their 'free wifi' access point.
I do see in the kickstarter blurb, you were looking for the next 1000 pre-orders, by my calculations you are already at 1050 pre-orders, even though you haven't hit your $98K target. Perhaps the $24K of Etiquette Enforcer was a stretch too far... GOOD LUCK all the same.

I am losing hope. Only have 5 days left and they are $30,844 USD short. Need $6,169 per day to make the goal. I hope it makes it, could use this. And as far as removing the addicted to minecraft headline, I am sure that was legal reasons, but that is what caught my attention, LOL..

    42. KnivD on April 10, 2015

This is a great project. As a parent of two boys I am experiencing the very same commons problems with gaming addiction and computer overtime. I really hope this project will succeed.

As a piece of thought for the future - while cutting off the net might be a solution in most cases, there is a small number of games which allow offline playing and (at least my kids) quickly switch to any of those if the online connection is cut off. This should be addressed somehow in the future as well - maybe in 'KoalaSafe 2'? :)

    43. Alex Hunte on April 10, 2015

I really hope you reach the funding goal! I think removing the "addicted to minecraft?" headline was a smart move . Fingers crossed we make it across the line

    44. Steven Pack Creator on April 7, 2015

KoalaSafe will ship with a minimum WIFI spec of 802.11N @ 150mbps
      It supports WPA2

    45. Steven Pack Creator on April 7, 2015

@FP: Yes, you can plug the koalasafe into your router and still have Ad-trap upstream

    46. FP on April 7, 2015

Steven, any thoughts on the Adtrap configuration mentioned below?

    47. mss on April 6, 2015

What wifi protocol and frequency does it support? Also does it support WPA2?

    48. Andrew James on March 30, 2015

Love this idea, was actually trying to build my own before I found this..

      However a few questions

      1) What are the hardware specifications of the unit, does it include inbuilt WiFi?
      2) I see the prototype units were using RasPi units, is there any chance the SD image will be available to purchase or demo the unit?
