Knit Monitor —Tracks Sleep & Breathing w/o Wearables
Knit is a very smart monitor. Mounted over the crib or bed, it helps you tune into your child’s status directly from your iPhone. It understands what it sees, and uses its advanced intelligence to keep tabs on breathing, sleep, moments that matter and trends. And all with just a camera--no wearables.
Peace of Mind While Your Child Sleeps
Our live video conveniently streams directly to your iPhone with all the information you need to stay on top of your child's sleep status and keep them comfortable.
Breathe Easy Reassurance. Starring at the screen for signs of movement? We've been there. With Knit, toggle on our Breasy™ button to double-check their chest movement. Question answered.
Healthy Sleep Environment. Our camera also detects room temperature, humidity, light and sound levels. So you can create the best sleeping environment for your child.
What Happened Last Night?
We know good sleep is everything. By tracking sleep, Knit can empower parents to keep tabs on what is happening in the dark and make decisions that lead to more restful nights.
Tracks Sleep. Get an automatic record of your child’s sleep. Including overall sleep quality, how easily your child fell asleep, when they woke up and long term trends.
Intelligent Video Clips. Your daily dashboard also includes video clips of important sleep details from what woke your child up last night to the first time they sat up.
And Without Wearables. Just a little camera with a big brain.
Are They Well Rested?
Daily insights and 7-days-at-a-glance trends help parents keep tabs on their child's overall sleep levels—illuminating important patterns, like their best bedtime and sleeping conditions. And because kids are constantly changing and growing, it helps parents track the impact of colds and coughs, developmental changes and seasonal set-backs.
We've Got Night Duty
Our goal is to create a product that creates real peace of mind by helping parents get the updates they need, when they need it. That means ambient modes for easily checking in on your child’s sleep status and receiving alerts when they need attention due to crying or room conditions. And when they fall asleep (we know you're watching), we'll celebrate with you.
See What You Missed
Knit understands what matters. Our smart video clips capture important sleep details from what woke your child up last night to attempts to climb out of the crib. Something doesn't seem right? You can easily share that information with your pediatrician.
From Baby To Big Kid
Our camera doesn't stop working when your child gets bigger. Our intelligence grows as your child grows. Parents of older children have relied on Knit to identify best bedtimes as their child drops naps, manage sleep through natural growth and development spurts and as a daily predictor of their child's overall restfulness (and mood!)

Easy To Install, Safe for Kids
The Knit camera was designed for your child's wall. The camera includes an easily mountable hook for attaching the camera to your wall. Start with attaching the 3M Command™ adhesive strips to the hook and stick the hook on the wall. Want more stability? You can add a nail or screw. Then slide the camera over the hook.
Secure Wall Mount. Knit attaches securely to the wall just outside of the crib, with nothing ever placed in or on the crib or even directly over it.
Durable Casing. Our toddlers have drop tested our device countless times. The outer casing is completely shatter-resistant.
Safe Cable Management. Long cords within reach of curious, grabby hands? Not with us. Cords are kept far out of reach with our cable management bobble.
Travels With You
Want to take it on a trip? Simply slide it off the hook and away you go. As long as you can connect your phone and camera to the same Wi-fi network, you can easily set it on a shelf for an on-the-go video monitor.
We designed and engineered Knit with our own babies in mind. The results are highly secure data transmission.
No Open Access. Our authenticated video stream runs only on your secure, local network with sleep data processing on the camera. A closed loop system that you control—keeping Internet hackers out.
Safe Distance. Distance matters when it comes to minimizing wifi emissions. Knit is fully FCC compliant and it's also designed to perform best at a safe distance. Our camera sits just outside and above the crib. Nothing is placed directly on your child, nor does the device hover directly overhead.
Data Security. When it comes to data transfer and storage, we've got your family protected. We use AES encryption and Transport Layer Security (TLS) for all communications between Knit cameras and our cloud servers—backed by the security standards of Amazon Web Services.
Parents & Experts Love Knit. From day one, we have been designing, prototyping and learning from families across the country. For the past 7 months, our cameras have been in parents' homes—and they love it.
Creating Impact on Pediatric Research. Using current research methods, pediatric sleep data is challenged. Our platform has potential to help science in understanding this crucial stage of human development.
Knit's simple and intuitive experience is enabled by advanced technology that learns about and understands people—starting with kids.
We even tested on BIG Kids. We were curious how good our technology is. So we turned the camera on David, our CEO and his wife for a night. Even with thick down blankets, Knit was able to track their breathing and sleep.
Knit was founded by 3 friends who worked together for over 10 years at world renowned design firm, IDEO. The team combines human-centered design and deep technical expertise to create experiences that are cutting edge, secure and magical. Knit's team has shipped millions of hardware and software products and has worked with brands like Ford, Intel, Google, Medtronic and PG&E. Two of the co-founders started IDEO's Digital Shop working on connected experiences from educational coding tools for kids to a computer vision wearable platform for the visually impaired.
Knit's leadership team is also made up of parents of kids from 5 weeks to 6 years. Our babies have been users since day one.
When Paul’s daughter Emily was born, he and his wife were having challenges getting her to nap in her crib. Paul and David walked many miles pushing Emily's stroller, talking about sleep and how they might help. Meanwhile, Evan was working on a computer vision platform for the visually impaired. The three co-founders realized that they could help parents by gaining insights on their children's sleep, respiration and growth all with just a camera.
In February 2015, they set-up shop in David’s garage and got to work.
World Class Partners
We are confident we will ship in March:
- Production-intent hardware and software has been in homes for the past 7 months.
- We are a team with deep product design & manufacturing experience.
- We have a deep network of world class partners:
This isn’t our first rodeo. We know how long it takes to design, test and ship a product and have been planning for this since day one. Our last build was completed in March and units have been running in 30+ homes for over seven months. These prototypes were built with the same internal components that will be in our production cameras. We are confident that the camera we ship to backers will not only look beautiful, but will also be reliable and durable.
We are currently building the next round of prototypes that demonstrate the materials and component geometry that will be used in production.
Mayfair Plastics in Michigan will assemble and test our first units—called Engineering Validation Testing (EVT). These units are also used for safety and certification testing.
Following EVT, small adjustments will be made and another batch of assemblies built for Design Validation Testing (DVT). If everything looks good, these will be the units that our first backers will receive.
We’ve built a bit of padding into our delivery schedule to account for delays that may come up, and have allowed time for testing to make sure the units we ship are reliable.
Knit is not a medical device and is not a replacement for sound parenting practices. The device is not meant to identify, treat, or cure any illness including Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
For international buyers, duties and taxes are not included. As the importer of record, you are responsible for duties, taxes and any other charges that your country may charge.
Risks and challenges
Our team has extensive experience designing and shipping products, and are highly confident that we will be able to deliver Knit in a timely fashion. We selected top tier manufacturing partners early in the design process and have had regular reviews to ensure that our product is able to be manufactured efficiently. Additionally, we are part of Bolt, a hardware specific Venture Capital firm, who help us stay ahead of potential manufacturing pitfalls.
Knit will be assembled, tested and delivered from our partner in beautiful Northern Michigan. This gives us the ability to stay close to the factory floor and make sure every detail is perfect before it reaches your door. We work with the best suppliers for every component. For some elements, such as the camera module, optics, and some electronics, that means going overseas, but the assembly and testing of the product is done right here in the USA.
As with every hardware project, there are many opportunities for issues to arise. We have selected great partners and built our schedule to accommodate a few slips, but delays are possible. We promise to be fully transparent with our progress and keep our backers informed about any issues.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
