About this project
Knit 1 Bike 1 Janet’s proposed book and exhibition - based on a cycling, yarn and writing journey around Scotland – June – Aug 2015
Cycle round Scotland and leave the car at home! - Scottish textile artists unite!- Create artwork with fibre and yarn! Connect with others by giving free workshops! Have an exhibition! AND write a book about it all. That's Janet's vision for Knit 1 Bike 1...
Planning for the project
Planning is well advanced and the idea has been well received. Janet has a publisher for the book ( lowimpact.org who published her previous book). She has provisional bookings for 4 exhibitions of the artwork she will create about the journey and confirmed bookings for 16 mini workshops all over Scotland. Many people have offered her a bed for the night and support with route planning in their area. The project is becoming well known in Scotland and word has spread mainly by word of mouth and Facebook!

Janet will launch Knit 1 Bike 1 by holding a giant Stitch n Bitch at Knockengorrock World Ceilidh Dumfries & Galoway Scotland, in May 2015 - a month before she sets off on her journey.
A Bit More About the Project Itself
She will knit and crochet whatever she sees on her travels, such as cars, frogs, slugs, takeaway cartons, midges, wildlife, and mountains.
Janet has already crocheted a Brompton folding bicycle like the one she will use to get around Scotland, several worms, caterpillars, sheeps horns, spiders...
Kickstarter funding will enable her to put in the huge amount of time this project needs in order to develop the art work and write the book.
Janet's progress on her journey can be followed on her blog www.createwithfibre.blogspot.com
and on her Facebook page
Her previous book 'How to Spin Just About Anything' was published by Lowimpact.org who will also publish this one. She is an experienced crocheter, knitter and provider of workshops as well loving to get on her bike. Visit her website www.createwithfibre.co.uk
Risks and challenges
1. Doing more camping and cycling than Janet has done before.
2. Creating the knitted and crocheted work - a bit of brain work needed to figure out how to make things like the ferry to the Island of Mull, mountains, lochs and of course a road.
3. The midges! (small biting flies found in Scotland from May to September).
4. And then of course writing a book about it.
5. To be honest getting funding is a huge challenge too...
