"The courageous chinchilla Ringo battles alongside his friends against the shape-shifting demon Yami-Origami in order to protect their home from an ancient evil force!"
SAMURAI CHINCHILLA takes place in the expansive metropolis, Fuji Village. The story revolves around two courageous, sword-wielding chinchillas: the hardheaded Ringo, and his more sensible friend, Ichigo. Together, they defend their city from chaos and destruction at the hands of the paper-folding mastermind, Yami-Origami and the sinister force that controls him known as The Darkness. With the help of a smug ninja-rabbit named Wasabi and the sassy little hamster Kiku, these four warriors slice their way through paper minions and magic monsters. In the process, they uncover mysteries from both Ringo and Ichigo’s pasts that hold the secret to defeating Yami-Origami once and for all. But the ultimate battle begins when the team must prevent the all-powerful Darkness from engulfing not only Fuji Village, but also the entire world in an origami nightmare. Now, only with the combined strength of his friends, his father’s sword and his own heart can Ringo vanquish this great evil and save the world!

FUJI VILLAGE - The Main Setting - A bustling metropolis loosely inspired by both Manhattan and Tokyo. Animals of all kinds populate it; from the platypus who runs a dumpling rickshaw, to the chicken who owns a 4-star restaurant and the dolphin who lives in a mobile fish bowl. Fuji Village is full of colorful characters and each plays a vital role amongst the hustle and bustle. The houses and buildings are all Japanese-inspired with a twist on the norm, as miles and miles of “hamster habitat” pipes interconnect the entire community.
The successful funding of this Kickstarter will launch production of a 4-minute animation that will showcase Fuji Village, the main characters and the dynamics between them all! ALL FUNDS RAISED WILL BE PUT DIRECTLY INTO PRODUCTION COSTS! This includes the Kickstarter rewards and the art book as well. Anything totaling above our minimum goal will only be put into making the animation itself even more awesome! Meaning stuff like, a longer film, better effects and maybe some extra rewards...but I will introduce stretch goals in more detail if and when the time comes. For now, here's a breakdown of the project budget:
ALSO! This is ALL OR NOTHING! Meaning: If we don’t reach our minimum budget requirement, we get nothing and anyone who had pledged will not be charged anything. So, essentially it’s a win-win for you pledgers!
SAMURAI CHINCHILLA will be animated using a 2D traditional animation style. We’re really aiming for a high level of quality animation, so that means 24 frames (drawings) per second. In addition, there's a lot more visual work that goes into the final film. Production costs include things like:
We definitely have a long way to go, but Samurai Chinchilla has also come quite a distance already! I have already put quite a bit of my own time, energy and resources into the pre-production phase. In addition, I'm so thankful for the many friends, fellow artists and family members who have lent their talents and put their faith in this project.
Here's just a quick clip of animation featuring the main protagonist, Ringo, so you can get an idea for the direction we're headed!
In addition to this animation test, we've also stacked up a bit of concept art as well which will be used as reference material for production and included in the artbook...and there's only more to come!
There's so much visual design that goes into making an animated short. So in addition to the completed film, there will be an artbook showcasing concept art, character designs, sketches, backgrounds, animation stills, inside information about the inspiration behind Samurai Chinchilla, and even some fanart! At least 50-60 pages of art! We will be printing the books via blurb.com, who are known for producing high quality, publisher grade photo books and portfolios. Here's a small preview of what's to come!
Shhhh...There will also be an exclusive production blog that all pledgers of $5 and up will gain access to! You'll be the first to get the inside scoop of where we are in production, seeing artwork never publicly released and getting a more in-depth look at the story behind Samurai Chinchilla! Did you know Yami-Origami was partially inspired by a Jack-O-Lantern? Or that Ringo and Ichigo's clothes used to be switched?
Aside from my humble thanks (which everyone receives!) There's a bunch of different rewards you can receive depending on how much you pledge! ***SHIPPING IS NOW INCLUDED IN YOUR PLEDGE FOR ALL TIERS!!***

I always believe in being honest with those I work with and especially those whom I am asking to put their money and faith in my projects.
With your generous help and with the combined talents of our awesome team, I promise to deliver a quality animated film that features a brand new, never-before seen world and characters whose personalities and relationships drive the story forward and resonate with our hearts. Samurai Chinchilla is a world far beyond 4-minutes and I aim to prove that.
I juggle projects and multitask on a regular basis. Bumps in the road may occur, both in a out of my own control, but regardless, at the end of the day, production will keep moving forward! And of course, I will always keep you pledgers informed of reward shipping, where we are in production, in the kickstarter, etc.
Samurai Chinchilla at its core is a story about strength in family, friendship, hope and perseverance against all odds...with that same mindset I will push forward through whatever problems we may face during production.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
