Hello Kickstarters! Thanks for taking the time to check out my project.
The KLiP is a new take on brewing single serve tea, great for both bagged and whole leaf tea. The patent-pending, integrated saucer design, allow you to simply brew and go. No more waiting near a kitchen sink or be near a waste basket before fully enjoying your brew. This one of it’s kind infuser can be used in most all standard mugs, so there is no need to buy a special mug. Unlike other basket infusers which can get in the way, you can enjoy a sip of your favorite tea while it's brewing, so you'll know the exact moment your tea is ready...Perfect tea, each and every time.
So whether you’re at the office or in the comfort of your home, you may enjoy your favorite blend of tea hassle free and now you don’t need that saucer that clutter your workspace.
ALL-IN-ONE SINGLE SERVE TEA BREWER.
Form as well as function:
- Patent pending design allows for a snug fit onto practically any size mug
- Great for both loose-leaf tea or bagged tea
- Convenient. The saucer is designed right into the flexible silicone clip assembly, so there is no need for a separate saucer. After the tea brews, just removed the KLiP from the mug, give it a quick shake, and flip it.
- No need to count the minutes. The KLiP allows you to sip the tea while the tea is brewing (you can't easily do this with traditional tea baskets or spring loaded balls). So, you'll know the exact moment your tea is ready to taste.
- Overall Dimensions: 2.36 inch W x 2.49 inch H x 1.41 inch D
- Materials: Food grade ABS plastic, flexible silicone, and stainless steel
- Temperature rating: Semi-rigid Silicone rated for 220 degrees F
- Dishwasher safe
The KLiP has very unique design and utility functions that set it apart from all other products in it's category. Every detail in dimension, gap, bend radii, hole diameters and placement have been scrupulously thought of and defined. There is a reason for each feature to exist. This is truly one of it's kind.

My story and Why Kickstarter?
I’m a mechanical engineer and have a passion for functional designs and coming up with creative solutions in my daily profession. I'm also a casual tea drinker and was disappointed with the loose-leaf tea infusers available to me and have struggled with being able to easily enjoy them at work. I realized a need for an improvement on the traditional tea basket so that folks like myself can conveniently enjoy premium whole leaf teas around the office hassle free, as well as be a good supplement for use with tea bags. So, I decided to design my own and have taken on this challenge of creating the KLiP as a personal project working countless nights and weekends for the last several months hashing out initial concepts into CAD designs, developed working prototypes, and tested them for functionality and longevity and feel that the KLiP is finally ready for you, the tea lover.
Along the way, I’ve partnered with an ISO certified, U.S. owned manufacturer and have put down a deposit for some of the production tooling. So, here’s where I need your help, with the backing I receive from this campaign, I’ll be able to pay for the remainder of the tooling costs and place a large enough order to introduce this product to the world at a competitive price. As a backer, not only will you be helping a small independent design company get off the ground, but you’ll also be among the first to receive and use the KLiP. So, please check out the rewards and don’t forget to stop by our website, facebook, or twitter page to help spread the word.
Risks and challenges
I'm an engineer and have worked in manufacturing for over 7 years and know full well things can go wrong with sourcing materials, machining, tolerances, customs, etc, which can all impact delivery. I hope that with my experience, I've done everything on my end to communicate clearly all the requirements with detailed dimensional drawings and CAD models to help the manufacturer produce high quality products in a timely manner. With that said, below are some of issues we may experience and how I plan to avoid/address them.
Lead time: I've naturally built in a healthy, but realistic, lead time for the backers to receive their rewards. This was done to give myself and the manufacturer time to react to any minor adjustments in tooling and quality control. I hope that the estimated delivery dates for each reward will be a "no later than" date and I will deliver rewards earlier if the situation allows.
Batch Pilot Runs: In order to limit risk, I will first produce small pilot runs of complete assemblies to make sure the manufacture can produce the KLiP in a repeatable, consistent fashion. Depending on the numbers I need to produce at the end, I will do a second round at a higher volume to ensure they can repeat the process without issue.
Inspection: The manufacturer will have their own quality control in place and will provide me with photos of samples prior to shipping pilot and full production runs. There will also be a 2nd quality control process when I receive the shipment where I will rigorously inspect random parts for dimensional tolerance, finish, material quality, temperature rating, etc.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Most certainly. Just grab the KLiP the way your hand would be positioned when you set it down. There are other ways, but you wouldn't look cool doing it. Last I heard, cool was still in.
Definitely. Each piece of the KLiP will be made of food grade, BPA free materials. This includes the ABS plastic, Silicone, and Stainless Steel. The health safety factor was 1 of the first key things I pointed out to them when I asked my manufacturing partner to quote the production of the KLiP.
It will work for coffee. The only caveat is that "course" ground coffee should be used to minimize the amount of coffee grinds from mixing with the beverage. It will make about the same quality coffee as a french press would. Also, because the coffee grinds are much denser than tea, you will need to shake more of the liquid out of the strainer before setting it down in saucer mode.
Why don't I officially state that this is for coffee?: The simple fact is the KLiP was very specifically engineered for brewing tea (whole leaf and bagged tea), right down to the hole diameters, hole spacing, strainer volume, and the amount of fluid the saucer will hold. I am proud it will make the best quality tea (with little to no particle mixture) with the added convenience of brewing anywhere and sipping to taste. I only want to design "tools/gadgets" that will make the "best" of what it's intended for, I only want to offer the best products for each category.
Will I create a new device for making coffee? YES. I have other unique, patent-able ideas for changing the way we brew coffee. But it's still in development :D
My manufacturing partner is a very credible ISO certified U.S. company that own manufacturing facilities in China. The KLiP will be manufactured at one or more of their facilities in China. They produce many products (some of which you may already use or heard of :D ). I deal directly with local engineers here in the states.
