ABOUT THE FILM
The Jonah Movie is a feature length documentary about Hip Hop artist Jonah Sorrentino - most commonly known as KJ-52. Jonah's career spans nearly 20 years and his music has crossed multiple generations and touched the hearts of many and molded the character of so many more. He's seen as a pioneer of an industry, and for so many Christian artists and rappers, he is the only reason they're able to do what they do today. This project is meant to serve as an inspirational and testimonial piece that may shape the lives of generations to come.
A ROUGH SYNOPSIS
The film has three parts
We return to Jonah's childhood home in Ybor City (Tampa), Florida. We go in depth with Jonah's father Richard and other family and friends to learn about the history that is the foundation on which KJ-52's career was born, and what led a white kid from Florida to become a rapper - a christian rapper of all things.
We explore the culmination and controversy of the rise of KJ-52 through interviews with Todd Collins, John Reuben, Pete Stewart, and more. We learn more about the song "Dear Slim" which is often seen as the springboard that launched Jonah into the mainstream and landed him on VH1's 50 Least Hip Hop Moments at number 26.
We explore the life of Jonah as it is today. What kept his career going for so long? How has he been able to cross generations and connect with so many different age groups? Featuring interviews with Derek Minor, Canon, B. Cooper, B. Reith, and more!
WHY MAKE THIS FILM?
Film is an incredibly powerful medium that can shape lives and inspire others. Our hope is that through this film we can inspire others to follow their dreams and use their God given talents to make the world a better place.
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?
We want to make this film the best it can be and to reach as large of an audience as possible, and we can't do that without your support. Until now this film has been independently funded. With your support we can take it to the next level for post production. We'll be able to have it beautifully edited, add awesome color-grading, subtitles, and so much more that will help this film stretch far beyond our current reach.
Multiple Dove-Award winning rapper and Guinness World Record holder for Freestyle Rapping Jonah Sorrentino, (aka KJ-52) has released his first independent album, Jonah, after reaching over 200% of his Pledgemusic goal. After ten full-length label releases, and his latest indie album the Florida-based artist is now telling his story through a visual medium.
KJ-52 has been nominated for sixteen Dove Awards, winning six. He has toured with/opened for some of the biggest names in hip-hop, politics, entertainment, and culture. He is best known for the personal song written to Eminem, “Dear Slim” (as featured on MTV and VH1). And now you have the chance to help his story be shared with the world through the Jonah Movie.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Denver Bailey is known for TV shows like The Carbonaro Effect, Flipping Virgins, and Chrisley Knows Best, he has directed multiple mini documentaries, countless music videos, and a variety of shorts.
He first heard KJ-52 in 2004 when he was introduced to the rapper's music through his youth minister. Becoming a huge fan, Denver began buying up every KJ album he could get his hands on. Almost 15 years later, Denver would work with KJ-52 on two music videos for his Jonah album.
Denver has a big vision for this project, and it's well on it's way to becoming an important part of CHH history.
Making movies - especially one such as this - is not cheap. While the film is being shot mostly guerrilla style, it's still a lengthy and expensive process. We're asking for a bare minimum to help cover these costs as we go into post production. This will also help cover any additional shoots/pick up shots and basic online distribution, and of course getting that film to all of our awesome donors!
What if we reach our goal early...
We've thought about this, and we pray we do surpass the goal. $10K is the bare minimum to complete this project, if we surpass that goal, we'll be going even farther with it! If we pass the goal, we'll announce our stretch goals, these goals haven't been finalized yet, but they'll be fun and include things like recreating the Collaborations album cover... or maybe we'll throw a premiere and invite everyone that donated!

WHEN TO EXPECT YOUR REWARDS?
Our goal is to begin rolling out rewards as they become available. Digital downloads of music will be available soon after the completion of the Kickstarter. The film is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2018. And we'll be getting it in your hands soon after that.
Risks and challenges
Like with any production, there's some challenges to overcome. It's likely that we have additional shoots coming in the future to help make the movie the best it can be. We're still working on securing all assets for the film including music, music videos, concert footage, old interviews, and more, getting permission to use these assets is a big challenge for us. Navigating this and making the best film we can make is our biggest challenge to come.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
