We intend to introduce hundreds of disposable cameras to the world in search for inspiration. Lots of inspiration.
We like disposable cams. We believe that they can create something special.
The Mission:: We aim to introduce hundreds disposable cameras into the world in search of inspiration (lots of it), and we'd love for you to be a part of it. www.commoncam.org
The Master Plan in a Nutshell: In 2009, we began customizing disposable cams by including a simple set of instructions on the back:
Step 1: Take a picture of something that inspires you.
Step 2: Pass the camera on to someone you trust.
Step 3: If you're last, mail the camera back to us.
Back in the Spring of this year, we distributed 40 cameras during a test launch. We await the return of many of them, but we've already heard some amazing stories. Common Cameras found their way to the East Coast, West Coast, California beaches, Rocky Mountains, Vietnam, India, family member mailboxes, and teacher dropboxes.
The way we see it, success is a numbers game and why wait? We're looking to really take the project to the next level by setting free at least another 100.
Weeks, months, years... We’re prepared to wait, excited to find out how far our beloved cams have traveled, and jealous of the sights they’ll see. :)
Fundraising Goals: Every dollar will go towards the cost of cams, labeling, printing, packaging, postage (we send you the cam and also include postage with the cameras for an easy mailback!). We're so grateful to have surpassed our original goal of $1000 for 100 cams and there is no reason to stop. Additional pledges just means more cameras, more people, more pictures, and more inspiration.
When do I get my camera? Common Cams will be sent out after the conclusion of the fundraiser in January. So, please be patient and hold tight. We'll contact you then for where to send the cam(s)! There is plenty more work to be done, and we'll keep you updated every step of the way.
What do we plan to do with the pics? We have a number of nifty ideas (including an art installation and a swanky coffee table book), but they will definitely be showcased on the website as well. If you think of something, please drop us a line!
