We had one more big surprise hidden in the constellations. Moon Hunters is coming to the Nintendo Switch™ console!

Bau, the familiar dog. (SUCH A GOOD BOY.)

Lingzhi, the familiar shroom. (Less cute in my opinion, but then again I don't like mushrooms in general. Still deserves lots of tender love and care.)

A Message To Our PS4 Backers

Hey PS4 backers! We understand some of you have been curious about Eternal Echoes on the PS4 and a few of you have been disappointed with our silence on the issue. Sorry we upset you!

We’ve been discussing it for awhile and after heavily weighing our options, we’ve decided the Eternal Echoes expansion won’t be coming to the PS4. (Ughhhhh it hurts to say that.)

The truth is that while we want to port it to PS4, it’d be a monumental amount of work, time, and resources for our small team and especially for Marcelo, our programmer. The Eternal Echoes expansion was never planned, at all, when we first decided to Kickstart or make Moon Hunters, and it changes a lot about how the game works beneath the hood.

To briefly explain - and not even getting into the legal stuff - updating the PS4 with Eternal Echoes isn’t a simple matter of transferring some files into the system and it automatically working. (Can you imagine though? Heck. That’d be awesome. I bet Marcelo dreams of that.) Not only would players potentially lose their entire save file, but everything would break and conflict with what’s already on there. So it would take months for him to get the files ready for the update and then an uncertain amount of time to fix everything that breaks. As a studio, we wish we could bring Eternal Echoes to PS4, but we also want to make more games, and right now, we can’t afford to do both. When it comes to other consoles, having Eternal Echoes in the build from the start avoids the problem of messing up all the files, so it’s less of an issue to “just” port it over to Xbox One and Nintendo Switch™ console.

All that being said, we are sorry to our PS4 backers. We should have planned ahead better than we did. We have and always do appreciate our community, no matter what platform they’re on. If any PS4 backers are super bummed, please do throw me an email at victoria@kitfoxgames.com. We can discuss and see if there’s anything we can do to help you feel better about this not-good situation!

The Shrouded Isle

Meanwhile…. wowowowow. You’ve all blown us away with the response to The Shrouded Isle so far!

If you haven’t heard, we’ve recently added a new colour palette to the game (black & grey, a.k.a. “Cremation Ashes”) as well as a few other fixes. You can also read about how we’ve improved and developed The Shrouded Isle from its original game jam beginnings here.

If you’ve played and haven’t left a Steam review, please do! It helps us out a lot. We’re currently looking into possible improvements to The Shrouded Isle gameplay and content in coming months, so keep an eye out for that.

For the most up-to-date-announcements, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. Our Discord server is going strong too if you want to chat with us more directly or about the games!

See you soon,

I was wondering, with the Switch version out now, is it possible to get a discount code of some sort since I can't play the expansion on the PS4?

    2. Edward T. on

They have no reason to support the PS4 version any further. They already got our money, so it's all fine and dandy. Now is the time for them to make more money of other platforms, instead of continue to support those they suckered into giving money. They must think we're real suckers for ever being foolish enough to support their blemish product. Just tell your friends and spread the words so people don't support these questionable developers again (at least on PlayStation platforms, which they have clearly stopped caring for.)

I believe that most of those issue could easly be fixed.
      - Provide an alternative to the one that got the game on PS4. I understand you made mistake but there's no reason PS4 users should be the only one to pay for this. They choose a platform believing that it would be fully supported, otherwise they would have choose differently. If developing an expansion for the ps4 is not a viable option (even if it problably is, the issue seems to be with the save files) then simply provide another copy of the game for another platform. This maybe won't solve the issue for all the users but part of them will have a solution that costed you nothing.
      - Provide the exclusive content you are creating for the Switch to the other platforms as well.
While I understand the technical issue in developing the expansion on ps4, I believe that implementing new companion are not an issue. They could easly be ported to the other versions of the game. Otherwise you are willingly make all the old version of the game inferior and incomplete without a good reason.
I believe you can make mistake, but you can also fix most of them.

As a course of action for PS4 backers like myself, how about giving us the option to pick up the complete Switch or Xbox versions either free (because if purchased a game, it should be the full game) or at a heavy discount.

      I don't link what I'm reading.
I kind of understand the reason behind the lack of the expansion on PS4. Issue happens and it's fair to believe that you are humans that make mistakes. While I think that there would probably be solutions to the problem (porting a game to a new console it's not probably easier than adding an expansion to an already existing game), I can stand by your decision. You were also good at support during and after the campaign. However, while mistakes happens, they can also be fixed or at least find a way to accomodate backers that supported you. In sum your delivered a product that stopped being supported before the other versions on other platforms (due to bad judgement if you will), an inferior product. It seems fair for you to offer a copy of a version of the game that is still actively supported and will receive the expansion to all owner of the PS4 version. This way you still don't have to port the expansion to the ps4 but you would have righted the wrong done to the backers/customers that was left with the short end of the stick believing that the PS4 would be one of the main console for the game while it clearly is not. It would cost you nothing as you could probably generate the key for those version.

The other thing I personally dislike is the fact that you offer exclusive content for the new version on the new supported consoles. That is not a technical reason, they could be simply implemented in all the previous version. Or are you doing that to push customers to purchase another copy of the game on that platform for the missing content? That is not a good thing to do to people that supported you during and after development. Please reconsider. The only right conclusion one should make after this behavior would be to wait years before purchasing another of your game to get the best and complete version you neglect to bring to previous customers.

Ah, that's a shame. My PC is definitely not as portable as my PS4 for co-op fun. I'll try to pick it up for Switch when I can though, as I have a Switch now!

      Best wishes,
      - Klokwurk

Can you guys do anything for ps 4 backers that want the switch version? I for one would love this on my switch!

@edward is not a developer problem, they don't want developing this on PS4, probably because low sales. They are using as excuses.

Besides, the only problem with PS4 they could have, would be fixed on new firmware

"Behind the scenes, Sony will add support for bundle and compilation discs, with or without add-ons, and discs which support games and add-ons (such as in a Game of the Year Edition) which don't need developers to rework any code."

Since getting my Switch, I've found it baffling that Moon Hunters wasn't on the platform, as it's perfect for the game. I'm glad to see this announcement finally being made. But WHEN is it coming to Switch?! Even if you can't nail down a release date, can we expect it in 2017, or should we gird ourselves for a 2018 wait?

I've got Moon Hunters on both Steam and PS4, and I'll admit that I barely play the game. I just don't end up playing many games on my laptop, and Moon Hunters simply isn't the sort of game to turn on the PS4 to play. I can see myself spending a lot of time with it on Switch, though. Really looking forward to it.

So I'm not so bummed about the PS4 not getting the expansion. But I can certainly understand why your other supporters are. I sincerely hope, for their sake, you can find a way to do right by them.

      @Kitfox Games
Oh, nice, glad to know that you are so successful now. Then how about you pull the existing PS4 version off PSN, then make a new and separate port of the "complete" version with all the contents? People who are content with the original version can stick with it, but at least people who want the new contents can pay to play it on the PS4.

    12. Eijhu on

Considering that I originally backed for the stillborn Vita version, I was wondering: Could I perhaps get a Switch version instead?

    13. Kitfox Games 2-time creator on

Please remember that Victoria, myself, and the other 4 members of the Kitfox team are all people -- humans -- and we are putting all of our love and heart into trying to make the best game possible. We know we can't please everyone, and we do wish we had the foresight in 2014 to see that A) we would make an expansion, and B) it would be hard to port that after-the-fact to other consoles, and C) the game would be successful enough to warrant multiple console ports, but we made mistakes.

Please try to remain civil, mature, and respectful, especially to our community manager, even when you are frustrated and/or disappointed. I hope we will be wiser in the future.

So you do the DLC for Switch but not for PS4! Fuck off to all of you!
The game is pure shit anyways....

Aww, so the dog is Switch exclusive? I'd have loved to have that when playing the Steam version.

Do original backers get some kind of discount or something for the Switch version or are we paying full price?

    18. Gaia Tea on

It would be appreciated for PS4 backers to receive a discount on the Steam version, so that way everybody wins.

    19. Edward T. on

Alright, that's cool. I'll just have to remind myself and my mates to never give you another cent or support any of your future product (in case you still seek to profit from this community) ever again. It's been a long and bumpy road for the PlayStation fans. So long.

To those of you playing this game on other platforms, I hope you all have a good time playing a wholesome and well-supported product.
