 THE STORY

“Both biopsies came back positive for breast cancer,” the doctor said as soon as she entered the room.  This was the moment my life changed forever. It was March 21, 2013. I was 37 years old and I was diagnosed with multifocal invasive breast cancer.

Why? I had no family history. I felt no lumps. I had chest pain!

The months that followed consisted of an extended assortment of specialists, treatments and tests.

“Am I doing everything?”  “Will I make it through this?”

I would sneak into the shower so I could cry. Cry in private without anyone knowing. The water would trickle down my face and merge with the tears and somehow evaporate like they never even were there. It felt good to do that.

I was overwhelmed. I had to find a way to handle it all. I wanted to somehow turn this awfulness into something manageable , something that could not only help me but others as well.

I realized that I should just do what comes naturally to me: Express myself through my art.

  • Help Educate and Inspire caregivers, family and friends
  • Further the Discussion on issues  directly targeting young cancer survivors
  • Provide Understanding and Comfort to family and friends

We hope by sharing my story, others can find a way to live life after a breast cancer diagnosis, and help guide the family and friends of those living with a life threatening illness.

MEET THE TEAM:

Anna U Davis moved from Sweden to the United States in 1998. Davis is known for her bold, colorful, graphic mixed-media work, where she explores her fascination with gender relations. Kirk Edwards is a photographer/videographer who has been living in NYC since 2000.  He met Anna and Peter in 2015 through his close friend - Swedish musician writer/playwright Jason Diakite - aka Timbuktu.  Kirk was inspired by Anna's art and her survival story.  It resonated with him as his father was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease in 2013.  He has witnessed first hand the destructive force that a life threatening disease can cause between family and friends.  'I want to capture this as an inspirational story, and hope it will help guide people so as to not abandon those who need your help most at this difficult time in their lives simply because they don't know what to do or how to act.  Peter and Anna have an incredible realness and personalities that everyone can relate to.'

Our goal of $50,000 will help us Kickstart this project and get Kirk and Anna to Sweden in the summer of 2019 in order to tell the background story on Anna's Swedish upbringing.  Anna will be showing in Scandinavia in June of 2019 and this funding will provide us an opportunity to follow Anna to Sweden as she explores her Swedish roots and brings her art back home.

We will be filming "Road to Recovery" over a one year period and we are aware that we will need more funding for our animator, editors, music licensing and budgeting for entering film festivals.

We are exploring many other options to help.

We would love to use the Kickstarter platform to bring awareness to the film and help attract interest so we can tell this story.

Please share this Campaign and together we can exceed our $50,000 goal, and secure funding for the entire documentary.

Our estimated total budget for the film is $300,000.

Risks and challenges

We understand documentaries are a long and difficult journey with an outcome that could change while filming. We aim to tell the story of Anna her personal struggle, and well as educate and inspire others by sharing a true story of what living life and surviving a life threatening disease is all about.
