Readers' guide to pilgrimages and hikes

All perks from the $25 pledge level, plus:

In cooperation with our supporter Books on Asia, we will send you a really useful guide to books —classic and new—on the many famous journeys in Japan that are traditionally made on foot. We also introduce the only book written in English specifically about the history of the Oyama pilgrimage, and links to articles that will be of interest to both modern-day walkers and armchair travelers. This readers' guide covers mountain hikes, old roads to Edo, ancient pilgrimage trails, an island-hopping excursion and nation-crossing peregrinations.

Film + protective Shinto shrine amulet

A link to watch our film when it's done AND a tiny protective "o-mamori" amulet from the Shinto shrine in the film, the same one carried by pilgrims and hikers for safe passage up Mt. Oyama, a holy mountain since ancient times. This is beautiful folded Japanese "washi" paper with kanji script in black and a red vermilion stamped seal, blessed by Shinto priest and carrying talisman powers. Small enough to slip into your wallet or a pocket of your backpack (6 x 2 cm,or about 2.5" x 3/4"), we will send your amulet by airmail along with a personal note of our thanks. There's a photo of the amulet in the "Story" section of our Kickstarter page here.

    Oyama Pilgrimage Jacket

All perks from the $25 pledge level, plus:

We will send you a genuine pilgrimage jacket that was actually used in a pilgrimage to Mt. Oyama. These are cotton and hand-printed with kanji and logo for a pilgrimage group, some of which have since disbanded. Designs and condition vary. Please let us make a selection for you from our limited supply. Please understand that these jackets are used and vintage -- some are hand-sewn and more than 50 years old -- so there may be stains, wear or tears in the fabric. Each has been freshly laundered and will arrive with a note in English from Alice providing the name of the group, where they were from and anything we know about their history. Wear your Oyama pilgrimage jacket proudly, hang it on a wall, or craft it into something special and uniquely yours. Shipping is by airmail from Japan. (Quantities limited -- act fast!)
