For many years I have been drawn to the founders of the United States and their writings. Most of us are familiar with some of the important documents like the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution, but there are so many other writings by the founding fathers that exude patriotism and lay the foundation of what would become the United States of America.

One correspondence, in particular, was a letter that John Adams wrote to Abigail Adams on the eve of July 4th 1776. Adams and the rest of the Continental Congress had spent the past few days deliberating and forming what would become The Declaration of Independence and ultimately a new nation.

This letter has served as great inspiration to me over the years and is also the inspiration of this art piece. Through Adam's words to Abigail, he practically foretells what would eventually become one of our greatest holidays, the July 4th celebration.

The phrase "I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is worth more than all the means" is the center piece of the illustration and embodies my own love and devotion to the God I serve and the nation I live in.

Excerpt of the letter featured in the video:

But the Day is past. The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America.

I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. -- I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. -- Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.

-John Adams
