CREATORS /STORIES:

RUE VOLLEY (Author, Hellhound: Episode One: Dead is Dead)

Rue Volley is a USA Today Bestselling Author and award-winning screenwriter who is best known for creating compelling storylines with a multitude of twists and turns that leave her readers virtually speechless. Some of her best works include 13 Ways to Midnight, Hellhound, The Devil's Gate, and A Vampires Tale of Blood and Light. All of which utilize her skill at piecing together compelling dramas that highlight her love for vampires, witches, angels, and demons across many genres including young adult, new adult, urban fantasy, and erotic romance.

HELLHOUND: EPISODE ONE: DEAD is DEAD

A year ago, Halo died and woke up in Purgatory reborn as a Hellhound, an assassin of the supernatural caught in the middle of an ongoing battle between Heaven and Hell. Unable to remember her past and partnered with Dorin, a vampire and former general in Vlad the Impaler’s army, this unlikely duo pursues a flying demon through the streets of New York City. Will they take down their target or will their constant bickering be their undoing?

JOSE MARONO (Artist, Hellhound: Episode One: Dead is Dead)

Jose Marono hails from Portugal where he enjoys a good bike ride, some off-roading fun, and spending time with family and friends. When not working on commissions, he's either designing characters for customers or working on sequential pages. He's constantly developing his skills, and pushing himself outside his artistic comfort zone. Of course that's in between goofing off at his work desk taking selfies.

J.D. BROWN (Author, Athena's Oracle)

J.D. Brown knows that vampires exist because she’s dating one - and, no he doesn’t sparkle. A magnet for subcultures and weirdness, J.D. was that socially awkward girl with more fictional friends than real ones. As a child battling a hearing loss and a medical condition called Muckle-Wells Syndrome, J.D. found comfort in books where strong women always saved the day and got the guy. An obsession with Charmed, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer lead J.D. to believe that her mutated genes made her something more, not something less. Thus her stubborn flare to persevere was born.

Athena's Oracle

In the year 338 BCE, former oracle Leena is transformed into a vampyre by the love of her now undead life, Jalmari. Leaving behind the life she once knew, Leena is excited and hopeful for the future, while Jalmari is apprehensive about his decision. Can Leena soothe Jalmari’s fears or is this undead relationship doomed before it truly begins?

ALLY CAT (Artist, Athena's Oracle)

When not working on classic cars, this classically trained illustrator with a flair for girl gangs, animated gritty characters with subculture lifestyle undertones draws comics.

Ally is best known for published charitable works to CBLDF/Vertigo, contributions to numerous successful Kickstarter campaigns, backups in Image’s SPREAD, illustrating a short written by Eric Powell in Albatross Funnybooks Spook House, cover artist of GWAR Orgasmageddon, occasional VICE articles, is a featured artist in Girls Drawin’ Girls and G.C.O. and has recently become a Lucas Films licensed Star Wars and Stranger Things sketch card illustrator for TOPPS as well as a guest artist on the Vampirella sketch cards by Dynamite comics.

RACHEL RAWLINGS (Author, Truth Be Told)

Rachel Rawlings was born and raised in the Baltimore Metropolitan area and has always had a fascination with the strange and unusual. Although her passion for writing developed early on, it wasn't until 2009 that she published her first novel - to prove a point to her children. When she isn't writing Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance, Rachel can be found with her nose buried in a good book and a cup of coffee nearby. There may or may not be cookies!

TRUTH BE TOLD (A Prequel to the Maurin Kincaide Series, exclusive to Strange Encounters.)

Being a cop in Salem isn’t the easiest job in the world, but someone’s gotta do it. In the midst of his latest case to find a group of missing seers, Captain Matthison enlists fellow task force member and psychic, Maurin, to help question the owner of The Palm of Your Hand store, who knows more than she claims. Can the two get a lead on the missing seers or will the case be over before it truly began?

JESS TAYLOR (Artist, Strange Encounters cover, Truth Be Told, and Pure)

Jess Taylor is a Canadian born, UK raised Illustrator. Stationed in Birmingham, UK they've been working professionally as an illustrator and storyboard artist for the last two years. With a background in animation and an award for illustration, Jess is a dedicated artist, always working on something.

After the overwhelming success of their debut in 2016, hitting the UK comic scene with the first issue of Arrow Borne, Jess barrelled into 2017 with the second issue and two new projects: Chevalier and Third Son. Alongside the self-published work, they were published in Blue Foxe's ongoing series 'Hexes', and returned to the scene with a new comic from Mindstain.

When not making comics you can usually find Jess working on prints and individual pieces, broadcast on their twitch channel!

I Hate the South (From the Case Files of Izzy Desoto)

Have I ever told you how much I hate the south? And I mean I really hate it. It's god's awfully humid, there's always something going down with some mystical artifact someone shouldn't have messed with, sold or bargained for. Luckily for me that's not the case this time around. Just another "vampire goddess" rising from the dead and a shit load of monsters causing chaos in her wake. Gods I hate the south.

Jamie Jones (Artist, I Hate the South)

Jamie Jones is a cartoonist living in Saint Petersburg, Fl. He loves old pulp comics from the 40s and 50s and Dungeons and Dragons. He recently got his passion project, The Baboon out into the world via a very successful Kickstarter. Other works include: Joey Ryan: Big in Japan, Lucha Underground, The Whisper, Dodger, and KICKING ICE!

He will be illustrating our bookends story for the anthology involving a King Skull Comics original creation, monster hunter, Izzy Desoto. She graces the cover of our first volume.

Risks and challenges

Though this is the first Kickstarter for us we have separately been involved in other Kickstarters and worked in the production and publishing side of the comic book industry. We have the combined experience needed to make sure production runs smoothly and that we meet our goals.

However, in any production this size there are the possibilities of delays. But the creators we're working with and printer are top-notch industry professionals and if any delays do occur we will send updates and work around the clock to resolve them.

From the beginning of development (working with our fellow editors) to its release date Puerto Rico Strong took three to four months. And that was one of the tightest production schedules in comics and a book that is a whopping 208 pages.

Once the shipment arrives we will work immediately to get the packages out the door as soon as possible. You guys deserve the best and we want to deliver the best at the highest quality, great communication, and all questions answered within 24 hours.

King Skull Comics is a brand you can rely on.
