More Than Just Cards
Empire is more than just a deck of cards to me. I've been designing cards for magic company Ellusionist for the past 5 years and it's been a great experience, but I've always dreamed of launching my own deck one day, and maybe even more to follow. It's time to finally realize that dream and it all starts now, with you, and with Empire. I've got a lot on the line, but I'm hopeful the risk is worth it. I'm so excited you're here.
Empire is a limited edition, bold, commanding, obsessively intricate and empowering design with the finest finishing, to be printed by United States Playing Cards Company for unrivalled quality. It's a deck that represent what it means to stand up and fight for what's important to you, your dreams. To follow them no matter how challenging and strive to make your own dent in this world.
I hope you can see the passion and heart I've poured into Empire over the last 12 months. My life's been on hold trying to make this the best deck I can and one I hope you'll love.
Join the adventure with me and be the reason Empire exists. Back Empire today and help me bring it to life. I can't wait to get them into your hands!
Please Note: Although I'm based in the UK and all rewards are in UK currency (£), Empire is open to everyone around the world. Everything will be made and shipped from the US, so US shipping is already included. Everywhere outside the US is considered International. Thanks!
Digital mock-ups of this Limited Edition, Empire Deck
Manufactured by US Playing Card Company for Superior Quality
Empire will be made from the some of the finest performance grade finish and paper stock available by the USPC. I want this deck to truly complement it's name and what it stands for. My hope is that it will be one of the finest decks you'll own. One you'll cherish.
It's handling, durability and touch will be highly functional and worthy of card lovers everywhere. As a magician too, I know what it is to handle a quality made deck and the difference it makes. This deck will hold nothing back. It's for that reason that the deck costs a little more to produce than others you may have seen.
Secret Design Features
a. The sharp-eyed magicians and hustlers among you may notice that because both the back design and faces have that centre edging detail, having any reversed cards in the deck is no problem. They'll still be very difficult to identify at a glance, should you need to ;)
b. The edge detail also holds an incredibly subtle one-way feature that a trained eye will have at their disposal.
c. The mischievous Jokers can also be used as a creative revealing tool for magicians.
d. Empire will also come with a utility card ('DB') useful for card magic or even as a cut card for poker, bridge or any other games.
These built-in features do not have any impact on the normal functionality of the deck for use in any kind of game play and merriment you desire.
Additional Rewards Available Now
To compliment the Empire deck, I've created a number of additional rewards that you can choose from in the reward tiers (on the right) or add them onto your pledge later (see Add-On chart below).

Your Belief and Backing is Everything
I created Empire with every ounce of passion I could muster and I hope you like it. I hope you can see what it stands for and what it took for me to create. I've poured literally everything I have into this deck over the last year and I'm devoted to continue putting that level of effort in and doing whatever it takes to get it to you.
However, it's only with YOUR backing and belief, that we can finally make it real. Empire lives or dies here with you. Back it today and be a part of this adventure. Lead the way and help me get it in your hands! Thank you so much for your backing!
Everything Will Ship from the U.S. Not U.K.
When backing Empire, this means:
- US shipping will be included for all pledges.
- Anywhere outside of the U.S.A is considered International and will need additional postage adding on top of your pledge amount.
The correct amount for International shipping (non-US) is described at each reward tier. Please add it on top accordingly.
I wish I could send Empire to everyone for free. Unfortunately, until we all have desktop teleportation devices, paying for shipping is the only way to get Empire to you. Which, in the end, is a good thing!
Check the FAQ below for more details, or feel free to contact me. Thanks!
- Thanks for the fantastic support and photography of my best friend Kam Yip (LostLittleKid).
- Also, thanks to my best friend and audio genius Paul Walker for his audio production for the trailer and photography/modelling assistance.
- Thanks to my good friend *Morgan Freeman for the voice over *(also known as talented impressionist Charlie Hopkinson, find him on YouTube :)
- Thank you to amazing 3d artist Adam Sacco (www.soulty.com) from Brisbane, Australia, who helped build my vision for Warrior to life so I can composite it into the trailer and bring it to life to show you guys.
-Thanks to Stephanie Walker, Michael Powell and Fergus Wilde for making it possible for me to shoot the trailer at Chetham Library at The Chetham School of Music in Manchester!
There's many more important people who I would like thank, and I will. For now, I want to thank you reading this and for backing Empire. It's simply not possible without your help.
Risks and challenges
Rest assured I'm doing my very best to learn tirelessly from others who've gone before me. To set up things the right way to make sure it all goes as smooth as possible. I imagine there will be bumps, but nothing I'm not committed to overcoming to get Empire to you. The main challenge will be the logistics and co-ordination of rewards, fulfilment and shipping. I will be sure to keep you updated at every important stage so you can be confident that everything is being done to move things forward.
The risk I face is that I've literally stopped my life to work on this deck and resources are almost gone. I want to create this deck so much and continue down a new and exciting path in my life. To keep creating cool products for people who love them and hopefully make a living from my passion. The only real risk I face is that I'll miss out on a future I've worked so hard for.
If you have any questions, you can check the FAQ below or feel free to get in with me, I'd love to hear from you and help in any way I can.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
As I'm a UK project creator, Kickstarter defaults to working in UK currency for all pledges. This is somewhat confusing as even though UK currency is shown, everything will be produced and eventually ship from the US directly to you when it's all ready to go.
So all non-US countries will be considered international in shipping terms. It's just Kickstarters policy when dealing with UK based creators and linking their bank account. It has to be in £'s, as off putting as it might be at first glance. The deck is valued first in US dollars and converted to the £ prices shown.
This will help save a lot of unnecessary shipping costs going back and forth between the US and UK.
So, I've included US shipping with every Reward level and international shipping needs to be added on top manually at pledge time .
Failure to include International shipping for anywhere outside the US will mean I will be unable to send your items, so please be sure to add it. Thanks for your understanding and my sincere apologies for any confusion.
The simple answer is because it's not other decks. It's more expensive to produce than other decks. I wanted to produce something people would be really proud to own, but all the extra details and love to achieve that do add up. Comparing one deck to another doesn't give a true picture of value. Different decks costs different prices to produce, especially on low runs.
This year, the United States Playing Card Company have raised the costs of their custom print services. This means features such as foil stamping, special metallic inks, inner box printing, embossing, paper stock, custom seals and overall print quality is now more expensive to produce.
Also, the United States Postal Service have raised their costs too, so shipping prices have had to increase slightly. This doesn't help things but unfortunately it's out of my control.
As I'm a UK based creator, Kickstarter states I have to base my project in £'s even if the production and shipping will be US based (it may as well even be a US project). But I'm trying my best to please as many backers as possible. There are many barriers I'm faced with by doing this but I hope you can see the effort I've gone to trying to make up for it.
With higher costs, everything becomes a little tougher. It's unfortunate that we have to pass these costs onto you guys, however I'm hopeful you'll agree that the quality of the final product and other rewards will be worth every penny.
At the end of the campaign, I will be sending a survey to all backers to clarify your pledges. This will include asking for your t-shirt sizes if you chose one, and, confirming what add-ons you want (if you have added extra money, for extra add on items, on top of your original reward pledge)
To change your reward:
Visit the project page and click "Manage Your Pledge" then make a new selection. Note that changing your reward selection may not automatically change your pledge amount. Make sure the correct amount for the correct pledge is shown.
To change your pledge amount: Visit the project page and click "Manage Your Pledge". Enter a new amount in the pledge amount box. Note that doing this is not adding on top your existing pledge; the amount you enter here will be the total amount collected if the project is successfully funded. Be sure you've have international shipping included in you're located outside of US.
Changing your pledge amount as described above is what you should do when adding on extra items from the Add On Sheet.
Yes. One print run will ever be made of this Empire edition. It will not be available by resellers after the project.
