Hi there, dear backers! In the third installment of our “Battle Worlds Academy” series we talk about unit upgrades, unit production and some of the special units every faction possesses. Enjoy!

New add-on rewards

Reddit AMA

Things have been crazily busy since the campaign started, but we tried to be as open and quick in replying to your many hundred mails and comments here on Kickstarter as we could. If you want to ask us some more questions or want to hang out with us, there will be a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) tomorrow, Friday, at 3 PM CET (9 AM EST). Three of us, including our programmer Philipp and game designer and studio co-founder Jan Theysen, will be there to answer all your questions. We’re going to release the link about 30 minutes before the AMA starts in another update.

Only three days left. This campaign has been a blast, and we can hardly belive that we are already on the homestretch! If you want us to reach the second oh-so-close stretch goal, NOW is the time to activate friends and colleagues, to write in forums, on Twitter or Facebook and to raise the pledges!

      @King Art Games Re: alpha testing - just want to confirm if every reward tier with multple games over the $75 pledge gets an alpha access per copy.

      It's the main reason why I went for the stretch that I did and I'd be bummed out if I could have got just the squad leader digi-downloads + 3 x $40 alpha access pledges instead ;)

      Thanks for the clarification on resources. It's very good to hear that you're not aiming for base building and victory by sheer weight of numbers!

      @Dave/Gweret (balancing): Ressources/production of units will never be the key for victory. There are maps with no production at all. And if there are factories you might get 3-5 units out of a factory but you might have 30+ units form the start. So it's a pretty small percentage. As I said: BW:K is a tactical game, focussing on the front lines, NOT a base-building/ressource collecting/building huge armies in a protected base kind of game.

      @John F/John Vanderbeck (Ressources): It’s NOT like C&C or stuff like that. It’s pretty close to the old Battle Isle 2 model: You conquer a factory and there are enough resources in it to build – let’s say – 2-3 units. The factory gains X resources every turn so after a couple of turns there are enough resources to build another unit and so on. There can be also crates on the battle field, providing bonus resources but that’s about it.

      @Andreas (Beta/Forum): Every backer gets access to the forum and to the Beta versions. And the Critter Chronicles is a digital reward. So you can add it to any reward (physical or digital). Just add the amount and we’ll contact you after the campaign to ask you what you want to have for the extra-money you pledged.

      @Jani (BoUT/CC Steam): We’re not sure if it’s possible to offer everybody Steam-codes for BoUT and CC because we (KING Art) are not selling the games at Steam but our publisher Nordic Games. Usually Nordic is cool when it comes to stuff like that, but I couldn’t promise it yet.

      @Hope (BoUT/CC DRM free & languages): Yes, they will be DRM free and you can choose between English and German.

      @Tobi (Number of Upgrades): There are „only“ two levels. But the upgrades you get are pretty significant and sometimes can even change the “character” of a unit.

      So what are you trying to say?
      Resources are sometimes bad because its inherent nature, or sometimes are good because of its inherent nature.
      Which means nothing.

      Maybe, compete for resources. Something you can fight for and control which is not trivial than having single base defense. In other words you can decide: to put more forces on attack side or split them to defend resources. If you choose one thing there is risk that decision was not good in some situation, for example because attack was a failure and now you have no defense on resources nodes.

      Very common? How common? Is it true statement or your opinion. Resources in civilization, age of empire, heroes of might and magic, did not break anything related to strategy.
      In Heroes of Might and Magic 6 when they reduced resources to 4 quite a few people were angry.

      Quite a few people like Starcraft, maybe it is matter of your preference not matter of true.
      I simply like more diversity. And cutting enemy from supplies is valid tactic not possible without resources.

      gweret: Go check out some RTS games. Resource collecting doesn't "give [them] another strategic level". It tends to remove all strategies other than "1) Rush resources. 2) Spam units. 3) Win."

      That's not to say it isn't possible for resources to add to a game's strategic depth, but it is very easy (and very common) for them to destroy it. Hopefully, the BW:K team will be able to avoid that trap.

      Resources collecting gives game another strategic level. More diversity. Without it game turns into stupid two sides mashing. With resources one side can gain edge over another by taking more resources nodes. Without that element equal sized army will be in draw position. Who makes one mistake loses all game.
      To be honest I do not understand how deeper strategic level is bad for strategy game.

      @John Vanderbeck...yeah I'm not a big fan of collecting resources. I hope it plays a minimal role, like resuppling ammo or fuel to the unit from a base. I don't like going around a collecting wood, random metal, whatever, just to build a unit. That annoys me, feels too RTS. But if it does have resource collection, KING Art is so passionate about this game, I trust them to do it right.

      @King Art Games: I increased my pledge from 25$ to 40$ to get the "Critter chronicles" (already have and love BoUT :) ). I did not change the reward tier, because I am not interested in any physical rewards and I am not sure, if I am allowed to change the reward tier AND get the add-on-reward (am I correct with not changing the reward tier?). But I may be interested in access to the development forum and the closed beta. Do I get access or not (because I did not selected the correct tier)? Thanks in advance for answering.

      What kind of The Book of Unwritten Tales/The Critter Chronicles digital copy would we get? Is it a code to GOG/Steam or downloadable copy from their website? I would prefer Steam code...

      If I chose a digital copy of The Book of Unwritten Tales and/or The Critter Chronicles as an addon will they be DRM free and will I be able to choose their language?

      I don't think the 360k are possible.
      I would be lucky if they hit the 250k because i love the idea of that goal.
      Anything else is "gimmick"^^

      That info doesn't make me to pledge 65$ for the pig in a poke. It's a difference if i have a think like "Kinder Surprise" or "Hot Toys" collectable. Sorry guys but thats not cool.

      one question about modifiers depending on unit level/experience: are there only three levels: rookie, veteran (one upgrade) and elite (one upgrade)? or are there more levels like 1-20 with 10 being veteran and 20 being elite? and so a unit with level 9 receives a small modifier in comparison to a rookie unit with level 1 (like for example in Battle Isle 2)? or are the only modifiers the two upgrades?

      @Ben/Caliosthro (figurines): We will take two units from the game and going to make the coolest figurines possible. That's about all the information we have at the moment because we want to decide every aspect of the production together with you. That means we're going to decide together which units we want to use, what the look and the material is going to be, how big and so on (always wihtin our budget limitations, of course).
