I am Here Now. And this is a personal transformation like nothing I’ve ever done before.
Since the debut of my first CD “My Own True North,” I’ve continued writing, creating, and making music. I’ve – how do you say it – evolved creatively, thanks to the many people who have come into my life and invited me to contribute to their projects.
I’ve done harmonies, piano solos, collaborations, gigs, concerts, and mini-tours to Austin (thanks Rox & Charlie) and Seattle (thanks Tracy & Neil). I’ve contributed to a dozen recordings by local musicians.
I’ve won Best Female Vocalist in the 2010 Worcester Music Awards, and was named to the Top 20 Hit List for 2010 in Metronome Magazine.
I’ve been called a “compelling independent folk musician” (Worcester Magazine), with “the voice of an angel” (Metronome Magazine), and “a prolific and prodigious songwriter” (Michael Moran, Amazing Things Arts Center).
I attended a mind-blowing, life-changing conference for people who want to change the world in Portland, OR this past summer. These three days took everything I thought possible in the world and blew it out exponentially. The thing is, I’ve always been great at having BIG IDEAS. The issue for me has been getting through the self-imposed obstacles that get in the way.
Sometimes, all those questions and doubts in my head serve a good purpose. They keep me honest and true. They get me asking the right questions. They serve as a moral compass.
But other times, not so much. Other times, they hold me back, and they keep me down.
It’s time for that to change. It’s time to make HERE NOW a reality.
What does this mean? It means I’m taking my music career and kicking it up to the next level. No – scratch that – I’m kicking it up like, a dozen levels.
I'm going back into the studio to make a new album.
My goals for Here Now are bigger than I ever thought possible. The music will have a bigger sound. There WILL be a band involved. There will be more production happening. I will need more help - and I will be able to lay off the Type A part of my personality, and be accepting of new ideas from unexpected places. ;-)
It all starts with the music.
They say if you want to be a writer, write. If you want to be a painter, paint. If you want to be an artist, make art.
Well, I’m a singer-songwriter. I’ve written a bunch of new songs. I’m ready to make my next album. And I want it to be Big. HERE NOW.
The thing is, it is going to take a lot for me to make a record that kicks it up these dozen levels.
And I Need Your Help. Here, and Now.
Please have a look over there ---------> at all the rewards that are available. If you can make a pledge, that would be SO AWESOME. Every teeny tiny little bit (and every great huge bit) helps me reach my goal.
If you didn't know: the way Kickstarter works, if I don’t reach my goal, I GET NOTHING. And you pay nothing. So it's a win-win for you – no risk – if I don’t reach my goal, you won’t be charged a penny.
However, I REALLY REALLY want to reach this goal. I am standing on the edge of a major life changing moment here. Seriously. And the only way I’m jumping over the edge is with your help! You are my parachute! ( And I love you already for that.)
Can you – make a pledge – tweet my link – like this project on Facebook – tell your friends – and spread the word in any way you know how? And leave a comment to share the love here too? I will be forever thankful.
In addition to the fun rewards over there -------->, I’ll be sending out updates throughout the recording process to express my eternal gratitude and share all the ups and downs of the process with you along the way. It’s going to be transparency at its most transparent. I’ll be honest. I’ll be flip. I’ll be cranky and sleep-deprived sometimes, and ridiculously silly at other times. I’ll have baggy eyes and bad hair some days. Won’t that be grand? And you’ll get to hear (and maybe even see) all about it.
So if you don’t want to miss out on any of the fun…
Let’s make a record! HERE NOW.
Risks and challenges
With HERE NOW as my 2nd solo album, and having been a part of many other recordings over the past 5 years, I've learned a lot from my own and from others' experiences in the studio.
In addition to my music, I have 11+ years of professional project management experience (thank you, day job!) to lean on to help me organize the recording process and get it done. I've already organized a projected budget and schedule, with milestones along the way - the plan is to be done tracking by late December, mixed and mastered by early February, and CD in hand in the spring of 2013.
To make sure I'm on time and within with the project budget, I've already compiled estimates from engineers, musicians, etc. to make sure I have an accurate sense of my expected costs. To keep cost overruns down, I'll be doing as much live tracking as possible to minimize overdubs and additional studio time.
Although there are risks with any recording project, I am so completely committed to getting this album done. There's just no doubt in my mind that it will happen. It will be done.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
