Inspiration Dice are the perfect way to jump start your next creative project. In the original and mega sets there are four categories of dice; genre, character, action and plot. To get started, just roll a genre, character, and action die. This first roll gives you the setting, the character you're starting with, and their main goal. This is where where you start writing, drawing, or creating. If you get stuck, just roll a plot die or two!
The point is to find inspiration... Roll what inspires you. If you think it is time for a new character, roll a new character! Roll multiple actions at once! Roll multiple plot dice at once! Inspiration Dice are meant to give you a push and you get to do the rest. Challenge yourself to accept the dice you roll, and you'll be surprised what you can come up with.
With the Character Trait expansion, you can roll qualities for your original character or any other character that may pop up. Roll all four at once and create incredible character depth!
With the Action and Plot expansion, you get 12 more actions and 12 more plot devices and twists. The possibilities are endless! Roll a handful and see what you get!
Each Inspiration Die is hand stamped, sealed and packaged here in the U.S. and quality checked before shipping. We hope to bring people the very best product that we can!
I know the rewards are posted on the side, but here is a little visual aid if you are confused at all!
How about a close look at those two reward levels?
What does this mean? It means that if you selected the $25 reward... Then you will now be getting not only one original set and one kickstarter exclusive action die, you will now be getting TWO original sets and TWO kickstarter exclusive action dice!
Some of you expressed that the reward levels seemed a little pricy. We set the prices where we did, because if we met our $3,000 goal that was the only way we could afford everything. Making dice in smaller amounts, by hand, is expensive. But if we reach $8,500, then we have the start up money to get them made in bulk and offer lower prices for everyone! It will be a higher quality product at a lower cost! Win win!
So... did you want the $100 reward level but didn't have the $100? Grab a friend. Split the cost. Let's hit $8,500 and that way you will BOTH get your own set!
Where is the money going?
Some of you may be wondering what we will be doing with the money that is donated and why we would ask for $3,000. While the bulk of the money will go toward the materials for the set you order, here are some other expenses we are expecting...
Production and packaging costs: The dice, the paint, the sealer, the stamps and our packaging all cost money! We bought our prototype dice and prototype printing materials... But we need a little help for the rest! If we make it up to the higher levels of funding, we will be using the money to custom mold and bulk manufacture higher quality dice!
Shipping and handling: The cost of S&H in the U.S. has been built into the cost of each of the donation levels. Don't forget! For orders outside of the U.S. please add an extra $10!
The inventory needed to kickstart the expansion of Inspiration Dice: We have great ideas for expansion packs... But we can't get there if we don't have the funding!
Promotional items: Things like flyers, business cards and ads can keep Inspiration Dice going. Let's spread creativity to the world!
Fees from Amazon and Kickstarter: Kickstarter and Amazon have teamed up to help people's dreams become a reality, but they have costs too. Part of our funding will be going to their processing fees so that they can keep doing what they do best!
About the creators and the idea:
Sitting at home this summer, in a creative slump once again, I couldn't help but think, "I need some help." While browsing through our local book store, my wonderful boyfriend, Peter, found a writing set and bought it for me as a gift. The book in the set was great! It also came with dry erase cards to plot out your story so you can put everything in order! But something was missing... The spark. Writing books kept telling me to just start writing, but I had no idea where to start. Books of overly structured writing prompts intimidated me and I lost interest. I needed something with structure, but not SO rigid that I would not be able to spread my creative wings.
That is when it hit me.... Dice! Just a few dice with simple starting words to get me going. Peter and I thought long and hard about what categories would be the most helpful. He is an artist and has often found himself in the same creative slump. Where do I start? Who am I drawing? Ect... So that is when we settled on four basic dice. We have plenty of ideas for expansion later, but there were four categories were where we needed to start.
Genre. Character. Action. Plot.
With those four categories in mind, we took off. We spent countless hours thinking of and researching words that fit into these categories. After making our lists, we paired words off into dice where they would make sense. After coming up with more action and plot words than we ever expected, we decided that it would just be a good idea to sell expansion packs along with the original and mega sets!
We have also spent countless hours researching the best way to print the words on each die. Our goal is not to mass market the inspiration dice. We don't want to make tons of money, or sell the idea to some big game or manufacturing company. We simply want to share inspiration with other struggling writers and artists. That's why we're taking the time to hand stamp each die. We want to deliver the very best to people that are just looking to be inspired. We have stressed tested the dice to make SURE that our method of printing and sealing is just right! We have rolled them countless times, washed them, scratched at them and even run them through the washing machine! We want to be absolutely sure that you are getting long lasting inspiration with your purchase.
If our kickstarter campaign is successful, we will fill all of the orders that have been placed via kickstarter, and then we will move our dice to etsy.com where people from around the world may buy their own inspiration dice. We're not looking for big profits... We're looking to inspire the world!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The main risk we run with kickstarting our inspiration dice is over reaching. If we meet our goal of $3,000, we are perfectly capable of buying everything we need and putting in the labor. If we go over our goal, (and I mean WELL over...) that is when we need to consider either manufacturing our dice, or hiring more workers than we initially thought. No matter what, we want our dice to be the very best quality. If that means hiring more hands then so be it!
Other than that we have researched everything we need. We have contacted multiple dice suppliers, researched different ways of engraving, stamping and printing our dice, and we are prepared to stress test all of the options. (As a trained stage manager, its my job to think about all of the possible problems that could arise. We have come up with multiple different solutions for large scale production of our dice!)
Is the mega set in the $35 reward level just two sets of the original dice or is it 8 different dice in 4 categories?
I have been getting this question a lot lately and hopefully I can clear it up for everyone. The mega set contains the original set, but in addition is has four different dice in the same categories as the original set. So when I say there are two genre dice, two character dice ect. I mean there are two genre dice with 12 total genres. There are two character dice with 12 total characters. Ect. There are no duplicates in the reward levels until you reach $150 where you get a second original set. That means if you pledge $100, then you get all 18 dice and every single one has different words in corresponding categories! Rather exciting I think. :)
