ChronosDock | Luxury Bedside Dock For Apple Watch
If you already know you are getting an Apple Watch then we invite you to consider ChronosDock.
We Will Return In April/May!
We have learned that it's not smart to launch a campaign for an accessory many months before the actual product will ship. But, we will be back and launch the ChronosDock here again 3 or 4 weeks after the Apple Watch has actually begun shipping — sometime in April or May.
To be notified when we relaunch the campaign, please send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We won't use it for anything but that one notification — promise!
Getting An Apple Watch?
Each day at bedtime we will take off our Apple Watch and attach it to its charger disk. With such a gorgeous watch, we thought that an equally gorgeous place was needed to charge it each night. So, we went to work designing the most indulgent, opulent piece of docking jewelry we could imagine — excessive in the extreme. And simply stunning.
Over The Top Design
Obviously we got a little carried away creating ChronosDock. Over two pounds of solid 316L medical grade stainless steel. Made with the lost wax casting process normally used for intricate gold jewelry. Laboriously mirror polished by hand.
Yeah — not your typical gimmicky tech accessory at all. But, it's the product we all ended up liking best, and best complements the prestige of the Apple Watch itself. So, that's what we're building.
The ChronosDock has three parts. There's the heavy polished stainless steel body, with a loop opening at the top. There's a gray silicone rubber ring that fits into that loop and holds the Apple charger disk. And, there's a soft silicone rubber ring on the bottom to protect your furniture.
Using ChronosDock is as simple as placing the Apple charger disk into the rubber ring, and pressing the ring/charger disk into the upper loop opening. Then, each night at bedtime, just snick your Watch onto the disk so the magnetic coupling force holds it in place.
The rubber retainer ring shipped with these first units will be sized to fit the first generation Watch charger disk. If Apple makes the charger disk smaller in the future, we will offer a new ring for that new charger —ensuring that your ChronosDock will work perfectly for many years into the future.
If you already know you are getting the gold Apple Watch Edition model, then you owe it to yourself to ratchet up one more level of self-indulgence and get a Gold Edition ChronosDock.
The Gold Edition ChronosDock adds a heavy layer of 18 Karat yellow gold plating to the entire product, even underneath. The gold is protected by a durable clear coated layer. We also include a logo-embroidered polishing cloth. Note that this is yellow gold. We cannot find a supplier capable of plating rose gold onto a product this large. The plating process adds 3 to 4 weeks to our timeline, so please consider this when pledging.
Risks and challenges
We are a group of experienced development and manufacturing professionals, and we've already taken the ChronosDock to mass production ready status. The production tooling is done. The units you see here were made from the actual production tooling.
The only factors keeping us from mass producing right now are (a) not knowing the needed quantity, and (b) not finalizing the inside diameter dimension of the silicone rubber charger insert. This project will tell us how many to build. We can make the rubber inserts using soft tooling within 5 days of getting the final dimension. We will know this dimension when (a) Apple releases CAD files to accessory makers ahead of market release of the Watch, or (b) when Apple ships the first Watch.
In other words, we're ready to make and ship now, other than needing the final size of the Apple Watch charger disk.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
