UPDATE: 9/21/11......so guys, i have this idea and i'd love your input on it. part of the Tier 3 reward of my Kickstarter campaign is a digital album of me covering songs by other people. i've been working on a few things this past week but i started thinking, what if i ask you, the project supporters, what songs YOU would like to hear me cover. Crazy, right? but it sounds like way more fun and it keeps you guys involved in the process.
what do you think of that idea? go!
UPDATE: 9/17/11......Awesome! We not only hit the original goal of $7,000 in less than 2 days but we've hit an additional $3,100 with 10 days left. That means I not only find a great running van for touring but, after Kickstarter and Amazon take their cut, I can hopefully cover registration and initial insurance costs. Thank you so very very much for your love and support, everybody!
Hi. My name is Kevin Seconds, I am 50 years old this year and I have been a touring and recording singer-songwriter/musician for over 30 years now.
If you're reading this and following this group, you probably know of me from my longtime punk rock band 7Seconds or one of my various solo or side projects and support (or have supported) me.
(If you don't know anything about me, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Seconds , then make sure to come right back here). Yeah, I know, it's Wikipedia. Whatever :)
Since the age of 19, I have made my life all about writing, performing and recording music and traveling all over the world to share it with people. It hasn't been easy, it's rarely been glamorous and I can't even say that I've been all that successful with it in the grander scheme of rock & roll things, but it's really the only life I know and the life I want and need, in order for me to stand upright and be happy.
For the past 10 years or so, and besides the occasional 7Seconds gig, I have also spent a lot of time touring by myself, just me and my acoustic guitar. I've made a handful of CDs and records and have been lucky enough to have traveled all over Europe, Canada and the U.S., playing with the likes of Elliott Smith, John Doe, Jonathan Richman, Bob Mould, Exene Cervenka, Chuck Ragan, Evan Dando, Juliana Hatfield, Tim Barry and so many more great artists.
Unfortunately, and for whatever reason, I've never had my own van to take out on the road. I've driven my own cars, have ridden in other people's vans or have spent a fortune renting vehicles from greedy corporate entities who look at every turn to screw me for every last nickel and dime I have.
All of these means of transportation have enabled me to be on the road but I feel that I am now at a sort of 'crossroads' as to what I will do now to keep myself active and working as a touring singer-songwriter, musician and performer. At the moment, there is only one thing really keeping me from being on the road more often and that is the lack of a decent mode of transportation.
I made this Kickstarter project in the hopes of raising enough money to do 1 thing: buy a decent, well-maintained van.
I don't need anything brand new and it doesn't have to be super fancy but it does have to be in GREAT running condition and no older than 10 years old.
Oh, and it needs to get decent gas mileage too.
I am hoping to raise a total of $7000 within the next 30 days and I REALLY REALLY TRULY need your financial help and support.
I'm offering various rewards (please see Pledge/Rewards info on the right side of this page for more info) and I hope that you will be interested in and exciting by them enough to pledge something, ANYTHING, whatever you feel you can afford.
I know that $7000 sounds like a a lot but look at it sorta like this: I have nearly 5000 Facebook friends and another several hundreds pals on Twitter and Google+ and if even half of those peeps pledged $2 each, I'd be sitting pretty and much closer to being able to buy a new van.
So yeah, it's totally possible and I hope you'll very seriously consider support me on my goal to make this happen. I really great love and appreciate you
By the way, if we reach this goal and there just happens to be a little money left over, you'll also be helping my wife Allyson and I with our fledgling record label, Cheap As Nothing as we will be using what's left to finance my upcoming 7 inch which will be the label's debut vinyl release After that, the plan will be to release MANY great records we'd like to put out, including ones by 7Seconds, as well as Allyson and I's various musical projects.
Anyway, that's about it. This Kickstarter campaign of mine goes "live" first thing the morning of Wednesday, August 31st and I will be updating this page and my various social networking hangouts often. Please contribute if you can and help me spread the word for the next 30 days.
Oh, and I have also started a Facebool group devoted solely to this Kickstarter project and if you are interested in frequent updates, please go here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/kevkickstarter/ and join this group. That way, I won't be cluttering up my personal Fb page with info on the project and not pissing anyone off.
Love & Thanks,
Kev, with all the albums and tour you have been a part of over the last 30 years, aren't you rich by now? Don't you have the money to buy a lousy van and put out a 7 inch yourself?
I am severely in debt and may never get out of it. Honestly. There have been many times over the last 5 years where I've actually considered calling my musical life quits due to my current and disastrous financial state and just go try and find a "real" job to survive. If I do that though...well forget about it.
