Future Tense Books is an independent publisher of innovative writing that is readying itself for publishing in a new era.
After 21 years of publishing books from more than fifty authors, Future Tense Books is embarking on its first ever fundraiser. We are entering a new era of publishing, and with it comes a new era of costs for our constantly evolving publishing house.
For Future Tense to continue its evolution and continue publishing exciting books, we need your help. We are looking for partners who will help vault us to a new level. We started out publishing lo-fi zines, and now we’re publishing perfect-bound books and embracing the dawn of the ebook. We have set a goal of $3,500 to cover higher printing costs and the fees associated with setting up ebooks.
We've launched this Kickstarter campaign so that YOU can help us fund more great books and help the future of the press and our writers. We are offering some really special perks for each of the different sponsorship levels, including writing advice, books, t-shirts from indie bookstores and publishers, 1-on-1 meetings, poker nights, custom cakes, limited edition records, show tickets, a ukulele, and much more.
Many thanks in advance for your contributions and continued support; we can’t do what we love without you.
"Future Tense is one brave and durable little press that constantly surprises and delights. It deserves to last at least another twenty years." -Johnny Temple, Akashic Books, Publisher
"For decades, Kevin Sampsell's Future Tense has published lively, original works of great imagination by authors who clearly love the art of writing. Future Tense continues to delight readers with its unconventional humor and reckless courage, and is worth supporting in every way!" -Jen Joseph, Manic D Press, Publisher
“Future Tense is a constant champion of great writing and new voices.”
-Michael Signorelli, Editor, HarperCollins Publishers
“For the past 20 years, [Future Tense] has been publishing the offbeat, experimental and risqué in the form of just three or four chapbooks, short-story collections, memoirs and novellas a year. Many of the works have gone on to be picked up by bigger publication houses, but many would be considered unprintable by just about any other publisher in the country—which is exactly why Future Tense is so great.”
"A smart, daring, small press publisher like Kevin has found something really cool before the big guys were willing to take a risk on it. Thank god for the Kevin Sampsells of the world."
-Rebecca Brown, The Stranger
