Thank you for joining me on "La Strada"!
There are so many of you that I want to thank for supporting me over the years, and for traveling along this creative road with me. With your help and encouragement, I've been able to reach some great milestones in the last 20 years, like:
- 9 full-length albums and 8 EPs
- Albums featured on multiple "Hearts of Space" and "Echoes" broadcasts
- ZMR Award for "Best Neo-Classical Album of 2012"
- Syndicated airplay on Sirius/XM and Music Choice
- 25 modern dance and contemporary ballet commissions
- Music for United Way, Make A Wish, History Channel, and many others
This new project is going to be the next milestone, and I'm really excited to share it with you!
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Ever since I first saw "Star Wars" back in 1977, it's been my dream to be a film composer. Film music inspired me to learn the piano (the "Chariots of Fire" theme was one of the first pieces I learned), to study music in college, and to combine electronics with classical instruments on my albums.
Like my 2009 album "In Absentia", which was sent to choreographers (resulting in major ballet commissions), this new album will be sent to filmmakers, leading me to work as a film composer. I need your help in order to complete this project.

HOW WILL WE DO THIS?
For inspiration, I've chosen scenes from films by the likes of Stanley Kubrick, Terrence Malick, Michael Mann, and Ridley Scott, to compose new scores for them. The finished project will establish my unique voice as a film composer, and it will be sent to music supervisors, producers, directors, and agents.
Since December, I've been working with Russel Walder, who produced my album "The Day I Met Myself" in 2012. That album won the ZMR Award for "Best Neo-Classical Album", and this was largely due to Russel's ability to push me emotionally, and to create music that is deep and compelling. For this project, Russel suggested that I use scenes from visually and emotionally compelling films, in order to push the music into newer, and deeper places.
The music is now being prepared for recording and mixing. To get the biggest emotional impact, I've lined up the Salome Chamber Orchestra, one of New York City's premier string ensembles. I've also lined up Academy Award-winning engineer Robert L. Smith. Robert has mixed records for artists like U2, Sting, and David Bowie, among others, and he's mixed over 30 film soundtracks.
All of us are really excited about this project, which is called "La Strada".
WHAT IS "LA STRADA"?
"La Strada" is Italian for "the road" - and the theme of this album is the road of life that we all travel. It's about our search for meaning as we travel down this road, with time relentlessly pushing us into the future. "La Strada"will be my biggest and most ambitious project so far.
Musically, I'm taking things further than I've ever gone before. In addition to working with a live string section (as many as 14 musicians), I'm also creating electronic rhythms using the sounds of cars, arc welders, stun guns, and lightning strikes. The result will be a marriage of cutting edge sound design, deep rhythms, and edge-of-your-seat music played on strings and piano - both emotional and exciting.
Here's a sneak preview (imagine what this will sound like played by a live string orchestra!)
By backing this project, you'll be part of an inspiring, exciting journey to create new music that will wake people up!

WHAT ARE THE REWARDS?
The significance of this project cannot be overstated: a finished, full-length album of music for live strings, piano, and electronics that will be used to get work for me as a film composer. Not only that, but it will be an album that you can listen to and enjoy for years to come.
In addition to a digital download album, a CD, and a Deluxe Edition (with a bonus CD of album outtakes and alternate versions), there are also fun rewards like:
A cool T-shirt
Your Name in the CD liner notes as "Supporter"
A Signed Music Manuscript with a Personal Message
A Flash Drive containing my complete catalog
Attending a Studio Session + Associate Producer credit
and even a Personalized Track written just for you + Executive Producer credit
As you can see, there's something for everyone, and I really hope that you'll join me on this journey.

Risks and challenges
There are some creative risks in this project: working with new sound designs, creating something outside of my usual "comfort zone", and giving up some of my creative control by handing the project to a mix engineer to finish the album.
To help me face this risk, I'm working with producer Russel Walder, who produced my previous album "The Day I Met Myself" (Best Neo-Classical Album of 2012, ZMR Awards). With Russel's wisdom and guidance, I will be able to push through the next "wall" and create something bold and exciting. I'll also be working with a renowned mix engineer.
The challenge will be in working with a large ensemble of live musicians (as many as 17 string players), and integrating their performance into the electronics, piano, and keyboards.
To meet this challenge, I'll be working with a seasoned group of professional musicians in a renowned New York City recording studio, and an Academy award-winning engineer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
