A science fiction morality tale about living with, for, and through machines.
"Greetings from Yellow Springs" is the story of Sweet Martha, Smokey, and Number 11: Two unsavory robot slaves and a starving heiress that never leaves her once posh studio apartment. She doesn’t need to leave. She can just Plug In and open her Digital Third Eye. She doesn't need to go outside to skip down mountains and heavy dance with strange new friends. She can just Plug In and swim in virtual love and joy. But Number 11 needs to eat. And her cute little nose is bleeding and bleeding. And Number 13 is waiting outside.
WHAT IS KICKSTARTER?
Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative and innovative projects. Through this online pledge system, backers like you, can support and help fund creative projects like ours. These are projects you believe in. As a backer there is no risk. Your support will only be authorized if the project reaches its funding goal by the deadline.
BACKGROUND FROM THE DIRECTOR:
We are romantics and we believe in (and embrace) the power of media to captivate, agitate, and shape our global consciousness. It's become impossible to ignore our infatuation with our machines. We text more than we talk. Robots are entering our schools and our prisons. We go online more than we go outside. Using a whimsical and existential narrative as our vessel, we hope to address the popularity of our new technologies. Also, we hope to gently (forcibly) guide the audience into re-thinking living and dying and re-thinking how we live and die with, for, and through machines. And we want people to laugh! And cry! Crying isn't so bad.
I believe in Jean Baudrillard: Science fiction is the apotheosis of tinkering and social exploration. And we believe this story, and the stories like it before it, and the stories like it that will come after, make the world a little more thoughtful and a little more lovely. We do what we can and this is it. But we can only succeed with your help. That's why we've come to Kickstarter. Independent filmmakers aren't sponsored by McDonalds, they're sponsored by people.
