I’m Kevin, and I wrote Cucumbers and Gin as a solo showpiece for Sean-David Cunningham, a great violinist and a frequent collaborator.
Now we want to make a studio recording and a film of Sean’s performance. We want to bring you inside the recording studio, where we’ll show you what it really takes to play this piece. Cucumbers and Gin is tough. Sean has to play tricky double stops at breakneck speed and super-wide intervals with rock solid intonation. It’s a good thing he’s such a fantastic musician!
Sean and I have some fantastic friends and collaborators helping out on the project, too. Zachary Herchen, an amazing saxophonist and audio engineer, will record the piece. Filmmakers Alan Jeffries and Michael Feldman will help out behind the camera.
When all is said and done we’ll have a studio recording, a performance film of Sean playing Cucumbers and Gin, and some behind-the-scenes clips of what it’s like to write, rehearse, and record contemporary music. If you’ve ever wondered how this kind of music works, here’s your chance to find out! We’re even going to make some special videos for our high level backers - check out the $500 reward if you want a personal theme song and music video...
If $500 isn’t quite your style, check out the other rewards we have on offer: private performances, violin and composition lessons, and even new cocktail recipes named after you featuring - you guessed it - cucumbers and gin. Even if you can't put in a lot of money, your support will make a huge difference.
Thanks for learning about our project, and I hope you’ll join us in making Cucumbers and Gin into a great recording, a great film, and great experience.
Thanks again, and see you at the premiere!
