The Kaizen Project
Anything can happen when you take action, just one small step at a time.
I've been making music most my life, been in a few bands, written and co-written songs, done recordings...now I'm putting my stamp on things. So here it is, this is where we begin, my first solo album. Let's get this started...please pledge now.
Reinvention has been a way of life for me, yet the one constant has been my love of singing and songwriting. It took a while for me to realize that despite the roads my life has taken, they all lead back to the same place. It's time I follow my heart and take the plunge. Time to find out what my career in music looks like. Time to be me. My goal is to bring my music to as many folks and to touch as many hearts as possible. To finally become a full time musician I will be utilizing everything I've learned so far to make it happen, and it's not just the music part, being a DIY musician takes a lot of hats! I'm ready. It's a huge leap of faith. Like I said, it's all about trust.
Once this Kickstarter project is successful, the funds raised will fuel the production and recording of 6 more songs, released as downloads as they are finished. When they are all done, the entire collection, including the first 3, will be combined as an album release on CD.
The path to here: Let me say first that I have not done this alone. It all began with my meeting Kenny Lewis, producer/engineer extraordinare of Mixed Emotions Music (Erika Van Pelt, Stryper, Michael Sweet, Darren Barrett, Vassar Clements) who has put his faith in my voice and songs. He is truly gifted gentleman, a wizard in the studio. I'm so fortunate to have met him and had his help to bring these songs to life and to a new level.
Next, just being generally awesome and talented is a complete lineup of stellar musicians:
First, the CAKE, aka The Outliers, whose
dedicated work with me on pre-recording development of the songs is crucial as well as bringing them to you all live:
·Mike Tworoger - bass
·Addison Maupin – drums
·Shelley Tworoger - backing vocals
Next the ICING, a wonderful group of studio musicians:
·Marty Walsh - electric guitar http://martywalsh.com
·Benjamin Zecker - keys and string arrangements http://benzecker.com
·Paul Ahlstrand - sax and horn arrangements http://www.paulahlstrand.com
·Scott Aruda - trumpet scottaruda.com
Kaizen Project grew out of my being incredibly moved to action over inertia by
reading the book "One Small Step Can Change Your Life - The Kaizen
Way" by Robert Maurer. I doubt that these recordings would ever have
happened if not for my reading this small yet incredibly helpful book. I highly
recommend it. I would give it away as a premium if that were allowed! :)
Thank you MB for recommending it to me to read!
Risks and challenges
The good news is, having finished 3 songs already, most of the kinks have been worked out over the last year. For the most part, the worst thing was waiting to work as money became available for the project, which happened little by little, month to month. Then came finding the extra players and arrangers, then the waiting between sessions to record the different musicians and dealing with scheduling conflicts and New England weather! These things always happen when doing any project, yet now that the key players have been set in place, the next recordings should go even smoother and quicker. Crammed in there was also planning and executing a photo shoot for promo and album art and working with the designer on the concept art. This was such a great learning experience for me!
