Robot Rundown is a retro side-scrolling shooter game designed for smartphones that directly ties into the story universe of Transolar Galactica, an award winning Sci-Fi Comedy series. It was developed by the Transolar Team in partnership with Vexing Media.
Robot Rundown comes packed with challenging gameplay, loads of humor, and an awesome eight-bit graphic design and musical score. Plus there's a ton of cool video cut scenes built into the game that weave the story into the Transolar universe.
You play as Sol-Bot, the underappreciated, motorized newbie heroine of the S.S. Transolar’s crew. After an unintended crash, you learn that the S.S. Transolar’s flight records, including the truth behind the accident, are stored within your databanks. That makes you a target. Now the UGCA is after your beating mechanical heart, and it’s up to you and your Transolar allies to escape.
Robot Rundown has already been designed, created, and published and it is currently available in the Apple AppStore. But we want to do more...
Robot Rundown is currently only available on the iOS platform. We want to make our game accessible to as many people as possible, on as many platforms as we can- not just to iPhone users.
We want to get Robot Rundown onto these platforms as well:
- Xbox One Store
- Playstation Store
- Xbox 360 Store
In addition to getting Robot Rundown onto multiple platforms, we want the game to get as much exposure as possible in order to gain new fans for our show. All proceeds from the sale of the game will go toward the second season of Transolar Galactica. Our hope is by getting the game out there on as many devices as possible, we'll boost the signal for our series and its upcoming second season.
When the Transolar Team ran into production delays on our second season, the last thing that we wanted to do was stop everything, and just wait silently while we waited for things to start up again. Especially after our fans had been so supportive of us! So we decided to find ways we could continue to create content for our fans without the need for our full film production crew... hence, Robot Rundown was born!
However, even with our hard work, ingenuity, and the support from programmer Brandon Smith of Vexing Media... games are expensive to make! You have to purchase the development software, licenses, and pay additional fees to get your game out there for people to play it. And the Transolar Team was not going to reach into our funds for Season 2 to pay for the game. Our fans want to see the best Transolar Season 2 possible, so we decided to incur minimal costs and just release the game only on iOS.
Immediately after we released the game, we were overwhelmed with the demand to get it onto other platforms. "ANDROID! ANDROID!" our fans cried. Well, we heard your pleas, and we want to deliver. So that's why we're here on Kickstarter with the hopes to raise the funds necessary to get Robot Rundown into as many hands as possible.
One thing the funds raised here ARE NOT going to is labor costs. Four people created this game and just like with Season 2 of our show, we want the money to go to improve and distribute the game - Not to line our pockets. So rest assured that the money you pledge will be directly helping make Robot Rundown and Transolar Galactica better.
Here's the cost breakdown of getting Robot Rundown out there to the world at large:
And the cool thing is by helping fund us, you not only ensure the game will be distributed to every corner of the galaxy... but you also get cool, exclusive stuff in return!
Below is a handy chart for you to see what goods you'll get with each pledge tier.
Our music composer for the series, Christian Ballard, laid down a wicked 8-bit style soundtrack for Robot Rundown, and we are really excited to announce that Christian is fleshing out the music from the game into a full album that will be available to our Kickstarter backers first before anyone else! Pledge $25 or more to get your ears filled with 8-bit jams!
LIMITED EDITION RELEASE POSTERS
And below is a look at the designs for our Limited Edition Robot Rundown Release Posters. There were only 15 of each poster printed. Once they're gone, they're gone! Posters measure 18" x 24" and have a matte finish.
YOUR VERY OWN SOL-BOT!
And, if you've got the gumption (and funds), you can pledge at our top tier and receive this little gal... A handcrafted replica of Sol-Bot, the heroine of our game, and a fan favorite in the series:
Robot Rundown is a fun and addictive game, but we want to continue to build upon it and keep making it a better and more fun experience for everyone. So if we happen to raise more than our goal of $3500, we have plans to expand the game in really awesome ways. Below is a chart showing our stretch goal increments. Each time we reach one of the goals listed below, we'll "unlock" the new aspect we'll be implementing into the game.
Risks and challenges
As stated in our project description, the Transolar Team is still working to deliver its second season from our last Kickstarter. Robot Rundown is our way of delivering interactive content to our fans during our production delays.
There are little to no risks associated with this Kickstarter because the game has already been developed. We're just asking for support to increase the amount of platforms the game is available on.
There may be a few challenges in tweaking/re-coding the game to function properly on the intended future platforms, but its nothing the Transolar Team can't handle. Since Steam Greenlight is a platform that requires public voting to get a game onto the platform, our challenge there will to encourage all our backers and supporters to help BOOST THE SIGNAL when we submit Robot Rundown to Steam Greenlight, to ensure our approval.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
