Proximity, a Santa Barbara based 501(c)(3) non-profit theatre company, embarks on a journey this summer, a rebirth of the original piece Shandy Wilkes, written by Karina Richardson. Under the guidance of NYU Tisch School of the Arts graduates Kyra Lehman (Artistic Director), Ken Urbina (Executive & Musical Director), and Ms. Richardson (Co-Artistic Director, Actor, and Writer), company members are challenged to perform at professional levels incorporating experimental theatre techniques into traditional storytelling.
This time around, we are approaching Shandy’s story with a smaller group of wildly focused young actors and musicians who share a common mission; to inspire people to connect to their bodies, themselves, and each other by vigorously exploring how alive we can be in our own skins. An intensive three week reworking of the show will prepare us for three performances at Center Stage Theater in Santa Barbara on August 10th, 11th, & 12th, followed by three performances at the Robert Moss Theatre in New York City on August 18th, 19th, & 20th.
By reaching our goal of $20,000, we’ll be able to cover the costs of pre-production, production, transportation, accommodations, rehearsal space, performance space, labor, and all the other real world expenses we must negotiate in order to do what we love to do. With a successful campaign, we won’t have to do anything during the rehearsal process but dive in, and that is priceless.
We owe everything to the strength of our community, and to those of you who have been with us from the start, we owe a special thanks to you. Your continued generosity is what turns our passion and dreams into production, year after year. To those of you who are new to our company, support our cross-country venture and be rewarded by knowing you are helping a grassroots arts community grow! That won’t be your only reward of course…
To the right, you’ll find a list of our incentives, based on the amount of the contribution. From song downloads to t-shirts, from show tickets to behind-the-scenes disposable camera reels, we took the time to create incentives we thought you would love. Because we care that you care about us. Whether you're dying to have Proximity's Greatest Hits Album always on deck in the car, you've always wanted to be billed as the director of a high-class theatre production, or you’re a purist who just wants to give us ten bucks, we’re sure we have an incentive that’s right for you.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for supporting us in our quest to share our beautiful and epic stories with the world!
P.S. Since Proximity is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, your contribution is tax deductible!
