Über dieses Projekt
You can help us complete and publish our comic strip Fjoldsen as a downloadable PDF comic book!
Mr. Fjoldsen is a Norwegian immigrant in Hollywood who produces low budget horror movies. The comic strip details his adventures, as well as those of his wife Amber, his employees and rivals. Horror greats like H. P. Lovecraft, Stephen King, and Roger Corman also make appearances.
All 72 strips have been inked, but we need funds for coloring and translating into English.
Donate $5 and get a 32 page collection of all 72 Fjoldsen strips! Your download will include one version with three strips on each page, and a mobile phone friendly version with one strip per page.
The hero of our comic strip is Mr. Fjoldsen, a Norwegian immigrant to Hollywood who produces a series of low budget slasher movies called Sorority Axe Maniac.
You'll also meet Fjoldsen's wife Amber, a gold digger who's still waiting for the gold...
...and his small crew of movie professionals.
Horror greats like Stephen King and H. P. Lovecraft make guest appearances.
Our comics have seen print in newspapers and magazines here in Norway, but Fjoldsen was deemed not right for a Norwegian reading audience. Editors suggested we publish in English.
Fjoldsen was a comic strip intended to run "forever", so in this sense the strip is not finished and never would have become finished. We did not get to do everything we wanted with the character, yet we did 12 weeks' worth of strips, and this collection contains every Fjoldsen strip we ever created. We like to regard this book as an "unfinished but complete symphony".
The plan is to translate and color all 72 Fjoldsen comic strips, and publish a downloadable comic book. That's three months' worth of daily comic strips. The download will include the book both in square format, with three strips to a page, and also in a more mobile phone friendly format with one strip per page. If you donate five dollars and help us get the word out by telling all your friends, we can finish and publish Fjoldsen, and you can download and start reading your copy.
If our campaign does really well, we will include more stuff with the download.
$5.000 reached - Comic strip Bananos will be included
Until recently, this comic strip ran in Norway's biggest comics strip magazine, Pondus, and will be launched as a publication here on Kickstarter later this year. However, if you help us reach the $5000 mark, we will include ALL the Bananos strips with your download, as a separate PDF, in the same two formats described above.
Bananos is set in the world's smallest banana republic (La Republica de los Bananos), and details the life of the dictator President Rodrigo von Schnell, his family, butler and government associates, and other inhabitants of the island (called 'bananians').
$12.000 reached - 24 Page Fjoldsen Comic Book PDF (when published)
This project will be launched later as a print publication, but if you Fjoldsen donors help us reach the princely sum of $12.000, everyone who donates $5 or more will receive this graphic novel as a PDF download, whenever it is ready. This publication will be full color and in the traditional US comic book format.
Set in Hollywood, this story deals with the production of Sorority Axe Maniac IV, and a mysterious new film investor (looking a lot like the late, great Vincent Price) who has some very strange and troubling demands. For this story, we borrow freely from The Case of Charles Dexter Ward and other tales by H. P. Lovecraft. The (silly) working title is Fjoldsen and the Curse of the Evil Villain, and will be cartoony but adult themed (horror violence and some nudity).
Father-son team Rolf Jensen (the father) and Kent Jensen (the son) are the creators of Fjoldsen. Kent writes (and does colors), Rolf does the actual cartooning.
Kent made his début as a creative professional at age 16, as writer and artist for the Norwegian edition of MAD Magazine. On several occasions, Kent scripted material for MAD, and Rolf did the artwork. Kent continued to do funny comics for this publication for several years, and eventually branched into comics coloration. Gradually, Kent’s focus shifted to making movies. He did storyboard art for multiple feature films, both in Norway and abroad, as well as for commercials, music videos, and short films. Kent co-wrote Norwegian-Moroccan feature film (Le Regard, 2005) with director Nour-Eddine Lakhmari. He also directed several commercials, as well as an award-winning short film (Kilolirakis, 2005). Kent and Rolf are also the creators of Henrys Hus (Henry’s House), a daily newspaper strip published in Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, and Bananos, currently running in Norway’s biggest comics magazine.
Rolf has forty years experience as a professional illustrator, mostly in the advertising industry. He has also done editorial and political cartoons for Norwegian newspapers. Occasionally Rolf did storyboard work, book illustrations and comics (with Kent). On Rolf’s personal website (Norwegian language) you find many samples of his work. For the last several years, Rolf specialized in cartoons for lectures and corporate presentations. rolfjensen.com
Risiken und Herausforderungen
As far as coloring our comic strip, we have this well in hand and are ready to go. Translation should not be a major challenge, as we are highly proficient in English (for non-native speakers). However, we will have American friends, who are fluent in Norwegian, look over our work´before we publish.Näheres zur Rechenschaftspflicht auf Kickstarter
