Back in Miami
I'm now back in Miami after a couple weeks of editing in Salt Lake City and a short stop in LA to grab some voiceover with Patrick. I'm really happy with this first short film, Isip the Warrior, it has a very specific comedic tone that David wrote so well. Actually it's turning out to feel a lot like Anatomy of an Airplane, a short film David wrote and we co-directed about ten years ago. I'll be sure to release that one along with these new shorts so you can all check it out.
It's funny, whenever I'm writing I'm constantly thinking to myself "What would David do?" He had this clear style that was dark, honest, and funny all at once. He was always the first person to read my writing and really one of the few whose advice I would consider. While in LA Pat, Ash, Liberty, Paul, and I (all the Must Come Down folks!) went to see the Stanley Kubrick exhibition at LACMA. Pat and David have been huge influences on my filmmaking, and because every Kubrick film I've ever seen has been with them or because of them, it really made my heart swell to see the life of such an epic filmmaker presented in such an awesome way. So go see it if you haven't already!
I'll post some stills from Isip the Warrior soon and some info on the next short film, which will be shot in Salt Lake City in late August/early September. Thanks again everyone, I'm so grateful to have your support on this project. You're the best! The whole lot of you!
