Hi! I am Kendra Chantelle and I am beyond excited to be making a record!!! I have had the pleasure of living in Nashville, TN and working in the music business for the last 11 years. During that time, I have worked as a vocalist in many capacities- I have done studio sessions, demos, backing vocals, taught voice lessons and written songs. I have been honored and blessed to have performed with and/or recorded with a wide range of artists including: Tom Keifer, Will Hoge, Lzzy Hale, Zac Brown Band, Robben Ford, Lindsay Ell, Elvis "BlacElvis" Williams, Harold Lily, Caylee Hammack, Cheap Trick, The Oak Ridge Boys, STS9, Damon Johnson, Kip Winger, THE Queen Maureen Murphy, Brad Sample, Ricky Skaggs, Andy Wood, Paul McDonald, Taylor Hicks, Radney Foster, Brennin Hunt, Red Wanting Blue, Stephen Kellogg, Scooter Brown Band, Chase Bryant, Melanie Faye, Lamont Dozier, Big Kenny, Frank Giovetti, Eddie Heinzelman and so many more. A few years ago, I was chosen as a semi-finalist on season 10 of American Idol. I am so inspired by the magical people I get to work with, and I am finally ready to unveil my own music.
I started writing songs with my long time (and ridiculously talented) buddy Brad Sample a while back and we wrote a tune called "Past Life" and looked at each other and said "We HAVE to record that! Let's start writing for a record!" From the moment we wrote that first song, I knew Brad had to produce it. As plans developed, we agreed that it needed to be a co-production with our amazingly talented friend Bobby Holland (give him a google, I mean DAMN) and we kept writing. One day, Brad said "hey Kendra... we were trying to record 7 songs, right? You have 15 "keepers" in the dropbox folder!" and we realized we better make this record, ASAP.
We have been able to whittle down to 9 songs (*IF there's any extra over in the budget, I will cut more!) and we need your help to give them life! Making music is such an expensive craft, and it is worth every penny and then some, but to do it the right way you really need cold, hard cash. The money for this kickstarter campaign will go toward studio time, musicians, production, mixing, mastering, engineering, CD printing, distribution, web design, photos, videos, working to get singles added to Spotify playlists and making sure this music gets heard. Kickstarter also takes a fee for offering this platform to help fund projects. Yes, this is a large amount of money BUT for a full length album like this, it's a very humble approach through and through. Nobody involved is getting rich, we just want to be able to share this with you, and create it in the quality way that it deserves.
I love these songs and the sound they've created for me. I want to share the music with you so badly. The artistic path is almost never a straight one and my quest as a songwriter has had so many turns during my time here in Nashville. I have eliminated a lot of sounds via trial and error and this is the first time I have ever truly not needed outside validation because I know in my bones that this music represents exactly who I am today. I believe songwriting is true magic- how amazing is it that we get to take a feeling, put sounds and words to it and share it with the world?! I whole heartedly trust that everything happens in its own time and I appreciate the timing that led me here. I had a lot of life to live and experiences to grieve and grow through to write these songs and be the woman capable of embodying them. It is time!
THANK YOU for visiting this page, thank you for reading my story, thank you for following my journey and thank you for your belief in me and your contribution. You are so appreciated.
Risks and challenges
The major risk here is failing to get the funding needed. Without it, these songs won't get recorded and I won't be able to share them with you and that is a heartbreaking thought. When I think about the team I have assembled and the songs we have chosen, I don't feel like any of the recording process will be a challenge. I can't wait for that!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
