I'm currently working on recording my first CD, I know - totally exciting!!
I've spent the last two years writing too many songs to count, but I've narrowed it down to some that I think really represent who I am as an artist & I think you'll all love to jam to.
The CD is going to be titled "You Should Know" for a few reasons 1- there's a song that will be on the album that's titled "You Should Know" and 2- my CD will read "You Should Know Kendall Phillips" - I think it's marketing genius myself... but, that's just me ;-)
Some of you might be wondering...
"Well, don't you have labels for this sort of thing?"
A: Yes, but most labels want to hear the product before singing a distribution deal... aka no label $$ for Kendall - yet!
So, I started a kickstarter project to help fund the CD. The $4,000 funding goal does not fund the entire project but is the minimum amount required to make this project happen. Along with the funding goal, I will be contributing money towards the CD to help make it the biggest success possible.
"How does funding work?"
A: Funding works like this, I have until June 28th to reach the minimum funding requirement of $4,000. If I go over that - I'll be doing a ridiculous happy dance, because that means I can make this CD all it can be. BUT if I do not reach at least $4,000 by June 28th - I get Zip! Zilch! Nada! And a very sad Kendall... :'(
Also, if the $4,000 minimum isn't met, you won't be charged for your pledge.
"Where does the bulk of recording cost come from?"
A: Well, studios charge you per hour... Then you have musicians - and unless you can get one superhuman guitar/fiddle/piano/drums/steel/dobro/bass/banjo player, you're going to have to pay them individually.... Then there's back up signers, engineers (a paid sound guy = happy sound guy = better sounding you!), and producers to give an outside ear while you're in the sound booth.
As you can see, it all starts to add up - fast! And as much as I love Top Ramen... I really don't want to eat that, and only that for the next 10 years. (If I'm being honest)
"How will having a CD help you?"
A: In so many ways it's difficult to consolidate! It provides a product to promote myself as an artist to fans, radio, endorsements, and the ever so coveted record label. It basically gives me a platform to stand on as I wave and shout, "Look at me!!"
"What do I get out of this?"
A: AH! See, I knew you'd ask that... Well, along with the satisfaction of helping an young performer get one step further in her dreams *BIG GLEAMING SMILE* --- I have a lot of really fun rewards for you guys as my way of saying 'thank you'.
And, you'll be investing in something that you can be proud of. I have been told from the time I was little, it's a one in a million chance or you can't do it. I'm alright with those odds, I have been proving over the past few years that I can do it. Jumping on my bandwagon and being a part of this project is a really fun thing - just ask those who are already a part of - what we like to call, the "cool club".
