For many, many years I've kept those little stickers from fruit. You know the ones? Those little stickers that distinguish each who and where the fruit was grown. They are hidden masterpieces of design in everyday life.
Maybe you've never taken much notice of these amazing little pieces design from our fruit bowls, but when you start looking out for them, you'll start to notice there are thousands upon thousands of different designs from virtually every country across the globe. In fact some sources suggest there may be as many as 65,000 different designs.
Two years ago I started sharing my daily fruit sticker finds over on Instagram, and now over 15,000 people from all corners of the globe check in to see them everyday.
Each sticker is laid out neatly on a white background so you can focus on the intricacies of each individual design. Here are a few of my favourites.
Maybe, like me, you're already a little bit obsessional about these little bits of everyday design, and if not, I hope this project encourages you to seek them out and admire them. It won't take long before you're hooked and on the look out for new ones every time you hit the grocery store!
To help you build your own fruit sticker haul over the coming year I've designed a beautifully designed, silkscreen printed 2017 wall chart.
It features 365 spaces for your daily fruit sticker finds. Simply collect one-a-day to gradually build your collection.
And just imagine, by this time next year you'll already have collected over 300 fruit stickers! Now that's a pretty good excuse to eat a little healthier over 2017.
Want to know more about the history of fruit stickers?
Great! Throughout the project, I'll be posting snippets of fruit sticker knowledge in the updates section. Check it out here to find out more!
Well, I'm pleased you asked.
Each year chart is silkscreen printed by hand in Leeds, UK on high-grade, off white, 120gsm GF Smith paper stock. In fact, I'm using the same guys that printed both my VIDERE and VIDDY pinhole cameras. We're in good hands.
This is Chris, and he's been silkscreen printing since the 1980's and he'll be the one printing up your year charts ready for 2017.
Once printed, each fruit sticker year chart is cut to a square of 600mm x 600mm and folded by hand.
When the campaign is over, we'll send them out to you in a rigid envelope. Expect this inside...
This campaign ends on 5th December 2016. 7 days after this I will know who's payments have been successful and have everyones postal addresses from those who have responded to my backer survey. I'll be sending out a backer survey on the day the campaign ends, so please fill it out as soon as possible so I can get your calendars out to you asap! Delays in getting this filled out will result in a delay in receiving your year planner.
Assuming I have your address, I'll be able to get the year planners out to you before the last posting dates for Christmas in lots of countries! If you are in one of the following places your year planner will be send out to you before the last recommended posting dates for Christmas as outlined by Royal Mail here in the UK-
UK, USA, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Ireland and Luxembourg.
Unfortunately there are a few last posting dates that will have already passed by this point. I'll still be sending out the year planners for these countries out at the same time, but you may receive yours a little after Christmas, towards January. These places are-
Africa, The Middle East, Cyprus, Asia, Far East (including Japan), Eastern Europe (except Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia), Caribbean, Central & South America, Greece, Australia and New Zealand.
If you have any questions, please drop us me a message!
Risks and challenges
I'm printing something, don't worry, I've done this before!
I've also sent thousands of DIY pinhole cameras around the world. You're in safe hands.
The biggest challenge is getting everything out in time for Christmas, but I'm very aware of the last posting dates and will try my very best to get your year planner out to you before then. Please bear in mind that the year planners are sent from the UK, so the further afield you are from here, the longer it will take. Also please get back to me as soon as possible with your backer survey to avoid further delays!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
