Happy Friday - I hope this update finds you in time.
I wanted to thank all for your support, especially Willie "Jack" Fields who has devoted an extraordinary amount of time and resources to facilitate and manage this project, beyond his own fiscal support of this campaign. Jeff Haneline and Rob Zdanowski were also critical both to the success of the campaign and throughout the duration of the construction of the original matireal path, right here in Harambee.
Kickstarted by each of you, this concept for matireal became a reality through partnerships with the City of Milwaukee, the Department of Natural Resources, Earthbound Development, Bliffert Lumber, Freedom by Design, and Milwaukee Tool. The topping off of the 300 foot trailroad will be taking place tomorrow with the support of bobcat Mike. We'd love to invite you to help us put the finishing touches on it and celebrate incredibly tiresome labor.
This will happen outside atop the Capitol overpass in the crisp autumn air in concert (yes there will be music) with our thanks(for)giving volunteer engagement party, starting at 11am on the artery at the Capitol overpass. Details can be found @:
We are going to have Mikal Floyd-Pruitt spinning records, Dori Zori of 88NINE Radio Milwaukee doing a Community Story, and food to celebrate the completion of the first ever matireal trailroad, which all started by asking a neighborhood the question, what do you imagine this corridor could be?
The answer, "We just want the trash cleaned up." With an intense amount of support over the past 6 months, we were able not only to remove close 1200 tires from the area's alleys and local garages, but create a permeable path across an unused overpass and activate a pedestrian connection at grade to keep people from having to change grade or cross high speed traffic on Capitol Drive.
It should also be noted that we collectively consumed several hundred tacos from Corazon at the other end of the Beerline
What else? If you come tomorrow, you will get a pre-release our $40K Call for Performance Ideas open to adjacent communities as part of our 'Creational Trails initiative with Art Milwaukee and the Greater Milwaukee Committee funded by ArtPlace America. This will Call will reward and produce the Top 20 Performance Ideas to be hosted once a week at the artery during the summer of 2014!
Let's hope today's mild November weather lasts through our event tomorrow. My apologies for the lack of notice; there was a question until the last minute as to weather we could even pull this off. The point is we're going for it, and would love to see you there.

P.S. Thanks to you all for being a fundamental part of our ongoing mission to make [art] do [work] + connect people to space. That (and this below) is how place is made!
(if you can't make tomorrow's event, stay tuned to the artery facebook for pictures)
