The Lost Dogs MC Issue #1, "Don't Just Exist" is a vivid 48-page, full-color comic book. It contains a 32-page biker science fiction story by me, Joshua Janes, and pin-ups by ten incredible artists from the U.S., Canada, and Australia. The book is 100% complete. Your pledges will support a high-quality offset print run of the book, along with many other fantastic rewards.
The tale of the LDMC began with six average guys–nobodies in the grand scheme of things–escaping their daily grind on a cross-country motorcycle trip to the West Coast. They were clueless that an evil force, known as the Black Tongue, had squirmed past God's Covenant and unleashed its Throng upon our world to bring us low.
In this first issue, ten years have passed since the fateful trip that resulted in the creation of the Lost Dogs MC and a calling from above. Unfortunately, the Club currently finds itself broken and in hiding. While attempting to rescue one of their own, the Club crosses paths with an enemy thought long dead. Chaos ensues as this evil from the past makes a violent power grab outside the walls of the last stronghold of humanity.
The LDMC comic book series has a bold cartoon style wrapping a story filled with family, humor, violence and the most important question of all, "Why are we here?"
The comic book series Lost Dogs MC was created by me, illustrator Joshua Janes. I am a digital artist with over 20 years experience working full-time as a children's book illustrator. I'm also the owner/operator of the art studio Keep Turning, LLC where you can view more of my portfolio. Besides my career in art, I'm a husband to a beautiful wife and father to three amazing kids who are an endless source of inspiration for my work. I'm also a huge motorcycle enthusiast. I came up with the idea for the Lost Dogs MC while on a bike trip of my own with my brother-in-law, Keith Wyatt, and friend/fellow artist Kevin Myers - universeK.
Elizabeth Conti keeps my ramblings under control and coherent. Beth and I met as colleagues at School Specialty Children's Publishing. She is now a high school English teacher in Grove City, Ohio, children’s book author, and journalist. When she is not watching Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland, she is out hunting for the last Twinkie.
Alongside myself, the talented group of artists below has joined up with the Club to create some killer images for the pin-up portion of the book. (Note: please don't stare at Jerry, he's sensitive about his looks. Thank you.)
As the campaign rolls forward, the Club will be handing out bonuses to all supporters as the LDMC hits the 25%, 50% & 75% milestones on the way to funding the first issue of the comic book.
Milestone #1: 25% – Zeak Yolkum (1996) Digital Comic Book
This was the first comic book series I created after graduating from the Kubert School in 1996. It ran as a back-up story in Robb Bihun's comic book The Hoon. My Yolkum comic is pretty rough, to say the least, although Bobby Brown did a great job cleaning up my pencils with his inking skills. Thanks, B! It's pretty obvious I was fresh out of school and still had a lot to learn, (not that I still don't), but I wanted to share with everyone where I began. Plus it's a fun little action packed story that I hope you'll enjoy.
Milestone #2: 50% – LDMC Digital Wallpaper 5-pack
For hitting that 50% mark, the Club is releasing five LDMC digital wallpaper sets for use on your phones, tablets, and computers. Just choose the ones you want for your personal devices and you'll be taken to the Dropbox screen to download the files.
Milestone #3: 75% – LDMC Digital Style Guide
For surpassing the 75% mark, I've given everyone a 37-page LDMC Digital Style Guide. I used the guide while creating the comic book to keep my characters on model and all my facts straight. This style guide gives extra insight into the characters and portions of the storyline. As well as some history of the two leading Clubs in the series.
REWARDS, something for everybody!
The Club is offering a wide variety of pledge levels to suit everyone's needs and wants.
The cost of doing business
Below are the down and dirty breakdowns of the projected timeline for the campaign and distribution. Along with how the money from your pledges will be distributed.
The Club's printer for this project.
The Club did its due diligence and after quotes from a variety of printers, KrakenPrint proved to be the perfect fit for the LDMC.
Risks and challenges
As a Kickstarter backer myself, I know how much it means to ask you to support a new project with your hard earned money. So I've made every effort to minimize any risk to you as a potential backer before launching this campaign. Part of this endeavor was making sure the first issue was 100% complete so that when (with your help) the campaign is successful, files can be uploaded to the printer immediately and digital files will ship to backers upon receiving the completed surveys.
I have already been in contact with multiple printers and have chosen to go with KrakenPrint, who is ready to put the project in motion upon the campaign's completion.
This campaign will be my first Kickstarter, so I will not claim to be an expert, but I have made every effort to educate and surround myself with knowledgeable individuals who have run successful Kickstarter campaigns in the past. Including attending Tyler James & Jeremy Melloul's ComixLaunch Course (http://pro.comixlaunch.com) for creating a successful Kickstarter campaign.
This project is close to my heart, and my goal is to make sure that every backer leaves this experience satisfied and eagerly looking forward to the next installment of the LDMC.
If you have any questions or concerns that I may not have covered, please feel free to message me. I want to make your involvement in my project as rewarding as possible.
I thank you for your time and support!
